In the void, there was nothing.

Because of gravity's nature, matter and world clusters beyond the realm formed a fibrous network, dense in places and sparse in others. The hollows at the center of that network were voids beyond the realm, exceedingly sparse places where nothing existed.

There was no light, no up or down, no direction. Every direction was identical, utter darkness. Opening one's eyes was no different from closing them.

Generally speaking, travelers beyond the realm deliberately avoided such places. When seeking routes, they traveled through the matter network. That way, even if they became lost, they could use relative positions and the existence of wonders beyond the realm to locate themselves. Even if they could not locate themselves, they could find supply points, rather than flying for hundreds of thousands of years only to look up and find that the scenery had not changed at all.

It could truly drive a person mad. Even immortals might not be able to endure it.
