It was really just "time dilation." From the outside, time within appeared to have stopped.

But from the perspective of the person undergoing time dilation, it was the outside world's time that had stopped.

Yet in truth, neither had stopped. From their respective relative perspectives, both sides possessed their own relative time. But because their Light Cones could not reach each other, they could not observe one another, affect one another, or establish causal connections. That was what created the illusion of "stopped time."
