Lin Feng became a Wallfacer.
He was a Reincarnator who, after a car accident, was reborn as the child of a high-ranking American official.
Although he didn't have any cheat abilities or knowledge from his past life that could make him rich and successful, thanks to his influential father, Lin Feng wasn't doing too badly in America. At the very least, he didn't have to worry about money.
He thought his life would continue like this, living a simple, unpretentious, and boring life of the wealthy.
It wasn't until Lin Feng saw the news about the Wallfacers released by the Earth United Council that he belatedly realized he hadn't just reincarnated into someone in the original Earth, but had transmigrated into the world of Three-Body!
Even more unfortunately, one of the Wallfacers was his own father!
Frederick Taylor!
Even though many years had passed since his transmigration, Lin Feng still remembered some of the general plot of Three-Body.
Taylor, the first of the four Wallfacers to be broken, chose to shoot himself due to the immense psychological pressure after his plan was exposed...
Damn it!
Despite his past life memories and his biases towards America, Taylor was his father in this life, the one who raised him. If he stood by and watched, how would he be any different from an ungrateful wretch?
To ensure his father could live out his remaining years peacefully and avoid a tragic end of suicide by gunshot, Lin Feng made his decision.
That's right, he would take over the mantle of Wallfacer from Taylor!
Lin Feng's idea was simple: if the pressure of being a Wallfacer led Taylor to suicide, then as long as Taylor was no longer a Wallfacer, he wouldn't choose to kill himself.
When the ETO Wallbreaker, dressed in a rumpled suit and tie, wearing a fedora, and appearing small and pale, approached Taylor, Lin Feng knew his long-awaited moment had arrived.
The Wallbreaker revealed Taylor's secretly hidden Wallfacer plan: to use Sophon to destroy the Earth fleet when it was about to engage the Trisolaran Fleet, making it quantumized and creating an unkillable Quantum Ghost Fleet.
How could someone already dead die again?
Similarly, a fleet that had already been destroyed could not be destroyed again.
A fleet that could not be destroyed would render the Trisolaran Fleet's weapons useless, no matter how powerful they were. Therefore, this fleet was invincible, or so Taylor believed.
However, the Wallbreaker's response was simple: "The Lord does not care."
Taylor was thus defeated, becoming the first Wallfacer to be broken.
After the Wallbreaker, whose ID in the Three-Body game was "Von Neumann," left, Lin Feng seized the opportunity to ask Taylor for the authority of the Wallfacer.
The process was smooth. On one hand, Taylor's spirit had been crushed by the Wallbreaker and his own conscience.
On the other hand, it was due to Lin Feng's preparation. Five years had passed since he saw the news about the Wallfacers, and he had painstakingly prepared for five years for this very moment, to persuade his father to hand over the authority of the Wallfacer to him.
Lin Feng's gaze turned to the television news, which was reporting on him.
On the screen, Taylor stood at the press conference podium, his face tense and showing signs of exhaustion. Although Lin Feng had persuaded him, he wasn't as dejected as he was at first, but the blow from the Wallbreaker still lingered.
"From today onwards, my son, Feng Taylor, will fully represent me in my Wallfacer duties. From this moment on, any plans he announces are my plans."
This statement caused a huge stir, and countless camera shutters clicked. The entire press hall erupted, with reporters clamoring to speak.
"Excuse me, Mr. Taylor, does this mean that the position of Wallfacer is hereditary?"
"Will the Wallfacer become the new 'Emperor' of Earth?"
"The Trisolaran fleet hasn't even arrived, and humanity is already regressing to the old feudal era?"
"Who exactly is your son, and is he capable of handling the work of a Wallfacer?"
"Are you truly working for all of humanity, or is there a hint of personal ambition in your actions?"
"Mr. Taylor, has the desire for dictatorship clouded your democratic rationality, making you lose your way?"
A barrage of questions rained down on Taylor at the podium.
What Taylor had announced was too sensational. The position of Wallfacer was already a symbol of high centralization, and those who advocated for democracy directly viewed Wallfacers as dictators.
Now, this 'dictator' could pass on the position hereditarily, making it no different from an ancient emperor!
Years of experience had made the reporters keenly aware of the topic's potential.
Taylor remained calm and composed, showing no signs of panic.
Compared to dealing with the ETO's Wallbreaker or the Trisolarans, the news reporters in the hall were like sheep in a pen. Their sharp questions posed no threat to Taylor.
"If you have questions, please line up and raise your hand, otherwise I will have to ask you to leave," Taylor said.
The chaotic press hall instantly fell silent. Hands shot up like bamboo shoots after a spring rain. If teachers could see such a scene in their classrooms, they would probably cry tears of joy.
"You were the first to raise your hand. What is your question?" Taylor gestured to a reporter.
"The Trisolaran fleet hasn't arrived yet, and humanity is already regressing to the old feudal era?" the reporter quickly repeated his question.
Taylor replied, "This is part of the plan."
The reporter was stunned, smacked his lips, and was about to speak but stopped. After a few seconds, he dejectedly put down his microphone, abandoning his inquiry.
Following that, other reporters asked Taylor their respective questions, and Taylor's answer was always the same.
This is part of the plan!
"It seems the Earth United Council is also quite troublesome."
Lin Feng murmured to himself. He still remembered that he had initially suggested letting his father simply hand over the identity of Wallfacer to him, and Taylor had agreed.
But now, with the news released, he only existed as a 'Wallfacer Substitute'.
Taylor remained a Wallfacer, but he had become a relay station. Lin Feng still needed to go through Taylor to wield the authority of a Wallfacer.
The only ones who could influence Taylor's decisions were those at the United Nations. They were likely afraid that the Wallfacers would evolve into dictators and even establish hereditary dictatorships.
"Forget it, it's all good either way. The objective has been achieved."
Lin Feng's core objective was to free his father from the pressure of being a Wallfacer, to prevent him from committing suicide.
Now, the pressure of being a Wallfacer had shifted to Lin Feng. Although Taylor was still a Wallfacer, he was merely in a relay role. Lin Feng would handle the work of a Wallfacer, and Taylor wouldn't have to bear too much pressure.
As for whether this pressure would be as unbearable for Lin Feng as it was for Taylor... not at all.
Lin Feng was different from others. He knew the plot and, more importantly, knew that Luo Ji's Dark Forest Theory would save all of humanity.
So, what pressure could he possibly have?
The Trisolaran Fleet?
Forget it, that was just a problem that was bound to be solved.
Was a threat that could be solved still considered a threat?
Not really!
The Trisolarans were weak!
Therefore, after taking over the Wallfacer authority, Lin Feng's idea was to reduce the internal strife within human civilization caused by the Trisolaran crisis and preserve as much of humanity's strength as possible.
As for Lin Feng's own Wallfacer plan, that was a non-existent thing. Lin Feng was self-aware; he knew his own limitations. If his father hadn't been a Wallfacer, and the only one among the four Wallfacers to choose suicide, he wouldn't have wanted to dip his toes into this troublesome mess.
After all, the Trisolaran Fleet wouldn't arrive for hundreds of years, and even then, they would be driven away by Luo Ji's Dark Forest deterrence before they even got here.
Considering all this, Lin Feng could live his simple, unexciting, and wealthy life until old age without worrying about the Trisolarans. That was much more appealing than being some kind of Wallfacer for human civilization.
Wallfacers also had to worry about assassination attempts by the ETO, but rich people didn't have to!
