Wallfacers were selected to formulate and execute strategies whose true purposes were concealed from both humanity and the Trisolarans. Their authority allowed them to mobilize part of Earth’s existing war resources without explaining orders that appeared irrational or incomprehensible. 207

Wallbreaking

A Wallbreaker was an ETO operative assigned to infer and publicly expose a Wallfacer’s hidden strategy. The ETO considered Wallbreaking essential for undermining human morale, damaging public trust in the Wallfacer Plan, and preventing effective resistance. 6 64

Known Wallbreaking Incidents

Lin Feng later argued that Wallbreaking could benefit humanity: exposing ineffective plans could redirect technological development and prevent resources from being wasted. 218

Feng Taylor’s Use of Wallfacer Authority

As Frederick Taylor’s representative, Feng Taylor used the office to advance visible projects while repeatedly implying that additional hidden plans existed.

• Macro-Electron Storage Plan — Proposed collecting energy from natural sources, including Earth’s electric field, tidal energy, and geothermal energy, rather than draining human civilization’s power supply. 4 5
• Intelligent AI development — Promoted AI applications to expand humanity’s productive capacity and shift workers toward intellectual labor. 35 37
• Virtual education and reserve training — Proposed virtual worlds and space-warfare games to teach practical skills, influence social trends, and create a population that could become reserve soldiers after basic training. 45 84

Public Perception

Wallfacers were widely regarded as both humanity’s last hope and potential dictators. Their extraordinary privileges made accusations of tyranny, hereditary authority, and anti-human conduct especially damaging. 1 5 88

• Feng Taylor openly embraced the practical power of the office during a press conference and threatened reporters who asked questions unrelated to his work. 5 6
• His public conduct earned him labels including “dictator,” “cold-blooded and cruel madman,” and “enemy of democracy and freedom.” 88
• In a later era, Feng Taylor’s expansion of gaming into education made him a legendary figure whose earlier dictatorial behavior was viewed more favorably. 107
• Public audiences were considered more likely to trust a Wallbreaker’s accusation than a Wallfacer’s denial, because deception was intrinsic to the Wallfacer role. 64

Termination

Feng Taylor was stripped of his Wallfacer identity and removed from the Wallfacer program after representing the Taylor System in negotiations with the Solar System Fleet Joint Conference. 155

The final Wallfacer hearing voted on Proposal No. 649, jointly submitted by the Alliance and Fleet Union. The proposal passed unanimously—including Feng Taylor’s vote—terminating the Wallfacer Plan and abolishing the United Nations Wallfacer Legislation. 215

• Feng Taylor’s original status was not a direct appointment: he acted as his father Frederick Taylor’s representative and was publicly called a Wallfacer Substitute. 1
