In the Three-Body Game world, eternal night shrouded the sky, and pure white snow fell from above. It was dry ice snow, formed when carbon dioxide in the atmosphere condensed in the cold!
Yet this blizzard of goose-feather snow could not dampen the enthusiasm of the people on the snowfield.
Several large tables had been set up on the snow, where people dressed in the attire of civilizations from every era of human history had gathered to celebrate another victory.
A Wallfacer had been wallbroken, and they had driven him into a corner. Through their actions, they had proven to the Lord just how useful ETO was!
"Ha ha ha! Cheers!"
"This Wallbreaker Operation was a tremendous success!"
"You didn't see the look on that Wallfacer's face at the time, hahaha!"
"He's completely finished!" A man dressed like an Egyptian pharaoh in white proposed loudly. "We should press our advantage!"
The pharaoh's proposal won the support of many. The success of two Wallbreaker Operations had inflated their confidence to unprecedented heights.
It was as though, so long as they were united, there was nothing they could not accomplish.
"Tutankhamun is right!"
"We should further whip up the masses and guide public opinion, making humanity completely classify spherical lightning research as a prohibited project! Cut off all development of spherical lightning technology!"
A man in a long robe, holding a feather fan, interrupted their wild fantasies.
"Don't rush. You have to eat one bite at a time and walk one step at a time."
"If you take too big a step—crack—you'll tear your balls. First settle the trial. Make Feng Taylor's crimes against humanity stick, then further steer public opinion."
Zhuge Liang's words did not draw much attention. No one believed that a Wallfacer they had already wallbroken could still be saved.
"Zhuge Liang, that's a strange thing to say. If the human governments hadn't allowed it, how could we have guided international public opinion to attack Feng Taylor so smoothly? They may not have said it aloud, but their actions have already told us that they too fear Feng Taylor's 'Global Civilization Ghostification' plan."
"Feng Taylor is completely beyond saving now. Saving him means making enemies of everyone, hahaha!"
What a joke. He had stood against All Humanity! He wanted to strip All Humanity of the right to live—how could humanity possibly spare him?
Miller was an ETO member. This time, he had volunteered to deliver the final blow to Wallfacer Feng Taylor and bring him before the judgment of All Humanity.
Originally, he had thought this mission would be exceptionally easy.
After all, Feng Taylor's plan was to kill All Humanity. There was no reason humanity would spare him. This was their own lives at stake—who could possibly not care?
And with all the other messes, like the 007 Work System and so on, Feng Taylor was simply This World's Mistake—the kind of person who wasted air while alive and land after death.
When court opened, the judge directly skipped the stage of debating whether the charges were valid and moved straight into the trial.
But what did he see?
Feng Taylor, the defendant, was not escorted in by court officers. Instead, he strolled into the courtroom on his own.
He sat in the chair that had initially made him wonder why it was placed at the defendant's stand, crossed one leg over the other, and, as though he were the host rather than the guest, said something like, "We can begin."
What the hell?
He was at death's door and still dared to act so arrogantly?
Was he showing contempt for the highest court?
Lin Feng's behavior seemed to stir up a commotion, and the spectator gallery buzzed with discussion.
Bang!
The little gavel struck the desk. The judge on the bench—
"Silence!"
"The trial now begins. Prosecutor, state the defendant's crimes!"
The Chief Justice spoke with a solemn expression, and the entire courtroom swiftly fell silent.
Having received the Chief Justice's instruction, the prosecutor began speaking.
"...The defendant, Feng Taylor, used his position as a Wallfacer and the pretext of using the Macro-Electron Storage Plan to fight the Trisolarans, intending to deprive All Humanity of their lives and transform All Humanity into quantum ghosts..."
After the prosecutor briefly laid out the entire matter, he began presenting evidence of Lin Feng's crimes against humanity.
Aside from various photographs of spherical lightning experiments from Taylor's team, there was also Lin Feng's Wallbreaker livestream. The conversation between the Wallbreaker and Lin Feng was heard loud and clear by everyone.
"Objection! This evidence is nothing but subjective speculation! It cannot serve as compelling proof that Feng Taylor is guilty!" protested the lawyer Lin Feng had hired.
Miller sneered and asked, "Counselor, are you trying to tell everyone here that having All Humanity killed by spherical lightning does not count as a crime against humanity?"
"No, that would of course count as a crime against humanity. But Feng Taylor has never formulated any plan to kill All Humanity with spherical lightning. His plan has always been the Macro-Electron Storage Plan. This is ETO's slander!" the lawyer replied firmly.
"We all watched the footage. How do you explain Mr. Feng Taylor's reaction after the Wallbreaker exposed his plan, as well as the things he said?"
Miller pointed at the image projected by the projector and questioned him.
The lawyer said, "Those words are precisely what prove Feng Taylor's innocence. I consulted Mr. Taylor. At the time, he was also deeply shocked by the Wallfacer Plan revealed by the Wallbreaker. That was why he turned around and asked the Wallbreaker those questions."
"An excessive enthusiasm for 'energy' cannot serve as compelling evidence, because the Macro-Electron Storage Plan likewise requires enormous amounts of energy. Your evidence is insufficient to prove Feng Taylor guilty."
Miller frowned slightly. He covertly swept a glance over the jury box and the spectator gallery, feeling that something was off.
Knowing that he was not suited to legal argument, Miller handed the matter over to the lawyer he had hired, Jones. Jones applied to the Chief Justice to call a witness to the stand.
Jones asked, "Mr. Williams, when you still held the rank of Major General, did you have an argument with Feng Taylor after he succeeded to the position of Wallfacer?"
"Yes."
Williams nodded.
"Was the subject of your argument related to the Wallfacer Plan?" Jones asked again.
"Yes."
Jones proceeded to ask his third question. "At the time, Feng Taylor asked you: if he was unfit to be a Wallfacer, then who was suitable? You said, 'Anyone, as long as it isn't you.' Is that correct?"
"Yes," Williams answered.
"Because of that argument, were you dismissed by Feng Taylor under the pretext that 'this is part of the plan,' and branded an ETO member?" Jones asked his fourth question.
"Yes."
Williams continued nodding.
"Your Honors, it seems the truth has now come to light," Jones said to everyone in the courtroom.
Heh heh, Feng Taylor, let's see how you survive this time!
Miller, seated beside Jones, could barely suppress a smile. Everything had gone far too smoothly. Under normal circumstances, a court trial could not possibly avoid complicated debates and sentencing procedures, taking an enormous amount of time.
Yet humanity's Wallfacer, Feng Taylor, would not be receiving such treatment!
Because everyone feared him now. Everyone wanted him dead as quickly as possible!
Miller could not help casting Lin Feng a pitying look. But when he looked over, he saw something strange. Lin Feng had not fallen into despair as expected. Instead, he wore a faint smile, as though he did not take any of this seriously.
Why?
Why could he still smile at a time like this?
