Lin Feng's presidential motorcade pulled up in front of a hotel. After getting out, Lin Feng straightened his collar and strode inside.
His footsteps echoed loudly through the building. Since yesterday, the hotel had been reserved by Wallfacer Feng Taylor as the meeting place for him and the other two Wallfacers.
Until the meeting ended, no one except agents from U.S. intelligence would be allowed inside.
"Sorry I'm late."
Lin Feng called out from afar. Reaching the hotel's second floor, he spotted two men standing by the floor-to-ceiling windows, each holding a glass of wine as they watched the streets outside.
Hearing the echo of Lin Feng's footsteps, the two turned to look at him as he approached.
"We thought you wouldn't come today."
The speaker was a burly South American man with brown skin.
Lin Feng was no stranger to him. He had often seen him in the news—the current president of Venezuela, Manuel Radias!
"I'm not quite that rude, Mr. Radias."
"What did you two come all this way to see me about?"
After giving an indifferent shrug, Lin Feng asked about their purpose.
"The Wallfacer Hearing. Why did you refuse to attend?" Radias asked.
"Because it's part of my plan," Lin Feng replied dismissively.
The Wallfacer Hearing was, plainly put, a meeting between the Wallfacers and the United Nations to discuss matters concerning the Wallfacer Plan—such as minimizing the plan's impact on humanity and informing the United Nations how to more specifically carry out the Wallfacers' plans.
But Lin Feng had no desire to go. There was no real point in it, and it would only bring a mountain of trouble.
Take the Macro-Electron Storage Plan, for example. Country A had cheap labor—couldn't the wages for Macro-Electron Storage be reduced? Construction for the storage plan seriously harmed Country B's environment—couldn't it be postponed? Country C needed to develop its military and had no money for construction—could it receive subsidies from the Macro-Electron Storage Plan?
In short, it was a pile of bullshit that had nothing to do with the Trisolarans.
"But your approach clearly didn't work," Radias said. "Even if you imitated that useless Luo Ji, you still couldn't fool ETO. You were still exposed by a Wallbreaker and failed just like your father."
Bill Shiens, who had remained silent at the side, said in displeasure, "Mr. Radias, watch your words. If Luo Ji is useless, then what does that make you? Taylor and his son may have failed, but they are both worthy of respect. At the very least, their sacrifices gave us a direction for guarding against Wallbreakers."
"Don't forget that ETO has prepared Wallbreakers for all of us."
Listening to the two argue, Lin Feng sighed inwardly. This was one of the reasons he did not want to attend the Wallfacer Hearing: the Wallfacers would engage in political wrangling and attack one another.
Why could Wallfacers wield centralized power?
Because the pressure from Trisolaris forced All Humanity to centralize power. Without centralization, nothing could get done.
Yet why were there four Wallfacers?
Why exactly four?
Why not five, or six?
The truth was, the slots had been divided according to political power. Lin Feng's Wallfacer slot came from American political influence. Bill Shiens's slot came from the countries of Europe. Radias's slot came from the smaller nations of the world, such as North Korea, Vietnam, and so on.
On the Earth where Lin Feng now lived, Venezuela was the first small nation to drive back the United States, and it held extraordinarily strong influence over small countries across the globe.
But precisely because the Wallfacers' authority had grown out of political power, they would in fact attack and guard against one another for political purposes.
Shiens had refuted Radias not because he was truly dissatisfied with what Radias had said, but because he was wary of Radias.
"So? Did you two come here specifically to mock me because ETO's Wallbreaker exposed me?"
"If that's what you came for, then I'm afraid you'll be disappointed. I won't give up on myself like Father did."
After all, Lin Feng's original objective had already been achieved. What reason did he have to feel that way?
When Lin Feng first formulated the plan, he had never been aiming at the Trisolarans. He had simply wanted to reduce humanity's internal strife during the Great Depression.
As for everything afterward, all his orders had been unrelated to Ball Lightning, completely severed from the plan.
None of that mattered. If anything, he was happy to have it easy.
"Is being exposed by ETO really something worth celebrating? Why are you still smiling?"
Radias looked strangely at the smiling Lin Feng. He could tell that it was not a fake smile, nor was Lin Feng forcing himself to smile.
But that only made him more confused. Shiens beside him felt the same way.
Seeing their expressions, Lin Feng spread his hands helplessly.
"You place too much importance on your plans and too little on yourselves. So what if a plan gets exposed? As long as you still have your brains, can't you come up with other plans?"
A sharp glint flashed through Radias's eyes at those words, while Shiens nodded slightly as though he had understood something.
"So you're this confident because you have other plans?" Shiens asked.
Lin Feng confidently raised his chin slightly. "Of course. The plan that was exposed before was merely a test, throwing out a stone to test the waters. I prepared multiple plans from the very beginning. One of them will eventually pose a direct threat to the Trisolarans."
In reality, there were no such plans. Lin Feng was merely preserving his dignity by openly lying in front of the two Wallfacers. Neither of them could read minds anyway; whatever Lin Feng said became the truth.
Radias and Shiens exchanged a glance, then spoke to Lin Feng.
"In that case, we have no further questions."
"Farewell, Feng Taylor. Though this meeting was brief, I believe each of us gained something from it."
The two bid Lin Feng farewell and turned to leave, leaving Lin Feng completely unable to make sense of the situation.
No way. They just left like that?
Can someone explain to me why those two came all the way here instead of properly carrying out their own Wallfacer Plans?
Just to ask whether I still had a plan after being exposed by a Wallbreaker?
That didn't make sense. They were Wallfacers, not ETO members. Why were they asking about that for no reason?
After pondering it for ages without reaching any conclusion, Lin Feng only felt a headache coming on.
Rubbing his temples, Lin Feng muttered to himself.
"...What a pain. Do I really need to come up with a plan to deal with all these people who have nothing better to do?"
Radiiaz and Shiens left the hotel in the same car.
The car was unusually silent. It was not until they were halfway there that Shiens abruptly asked, "What do you think?"
"He is a qualified Wallfacer. There wasn't the slightest trace of concealment," Radiiaz said. His gaze shifted to the window, his tone exceptionally certain. "Taylor made the right choice."
In the Three-Body Game world, ETO was holding a meeting.
The topic of the meeting was Lin Feng's encounter with the two Wallfacers.
ETO placed great importance on this meeting. By ordinary logic, when influential figures met, they certainly would not be discussing trivial matters.
Anything discussed between Wallfacers would, at the very least, concern major international affairs.
ETO thought that perhaps this time, they might gain some clues about Feng Taylor's Wallfacer Plan.
Sure enough, the two Wallfacers had discussed Feng Taylor's Wallfacer Plan. Yet Feng Taylor had remained exactly as before, without revealing even the slightest bit of information.
It made ETO want to curse Feng Taylor's ancestors.
"The two Wallfacers went to see Feng Taylor. Feng Taylor kept his mouth shut and still did not reveal any useful information."
"Didn't I already say so? Don't be so nervous. Feng Taylor's plan hasn't begun yet. He is waiting for the right opportunity."
Unlike the furious King Zhou, Mozi appeared entirely calm and composed.
Just as everyone in ETO was beginning to think Mozi was right, a woman dressed in a kimono with a Katana at her waist appeared before them.
The moment she appeared, without saying a word, she cleaved the conference table in half with her Katana.
The blade of the Katana pointed directly at everyone present. The ETO members remained seated, utterly unable to understand why their Lord would act this way toward them.
Feng Taylor's plan had already begun.
This time, you of ETO had failed to fulfill your duties.
