"A stage?"
"Yes, this is a Wallbreaker Operation by the ETO targeting you. They're calling it the 'Stage Operation'."
Listening to the report from the CIA on the other end of the line, Lin Feng couldn't help but raise an eyebrow.
"Never mind the stage or whatever. Did you catch the person who called me that day?"
"I'm very sorry, we didn't."
"Huh?"
Lin Feng was immediately displeased. He thought that with the CIA involved, even if they couldn't take down the ETO, catching one person should be a simple matter.
His thinking was that the CIA, being an intelligence agency directly under the President, couldn't possibly be that incompetent.
To catch the ETO member who had called him as quickly as possible, Lin Feng had even used his Wallfacer authority to lobby various governments, hoping they would grant the CIA agents' investigation a green light.
Now, he had put his reputation on the line, and this was the response he got?
Could Lin Feng accept this?
He couldn't!
The CIA were all useless idiots!
Damn it!
"Are you really the CIA? Not some third-rate organization?"
"What about your satellite positioning? GPS? Can't you track them through the communication base stations? Are you even capable? Is it because too many ETO moles have infiltrated your ranks that you can't find them? I think the CIA is severely corrupted!"
Lin Feng's barrage of questions made the CIA supervisor on the other end of the line sweat profusely.
Regardless of Lin Feng's past, he was now a Wallfacer. A Wallfacer's authority was outrageously high, and in a sense, he was already equivalent to a senior leader of the CIA.
A Wallfacer's authority might not necessarily surpass that of the President, Congress, or the Supreme Court, but it was definitely greater than that of the CIA. The CIA might not disappear, but it could be reorganized or abolished, and it would only take a word to have all of them collectively laid off.
America had 16 intelligence agencies, and plenty of intelligence personnel! They wouldn't suffer too much without these particular individuals!
"Please don't get agitated. It was difficult; we genuinely couldn't find them."
Knowing that the problem would become very serious if he didn't explain clearly to Lin Feng, the CIA supervisor quickly offered an explanation.
"By locking onto the actual location of the mobile IP, we could find the person even if we couldn't identify the buyer. However, after locking onto the IP location, we discovered that the person who spoke with you was in Antarctica at the time."
"Huh?"
Lin Feng was stunned for a moment. Did an ETO member specifically go to Antarctica to make that call to him?
Fearing that Lin Feng hadn't understood, the CIA supervisor rephrased his explanation in the most accessible language possible.
"What I mean is, the call was made from Antarctica. The person anticipated that we would track their location through their IP, so they deliberately chose the desolate Antarctic region. This way, we couldn't gather any clues about them by checking nearby residents or surveillance cameras."
Lin Feng pondered for a moment, then felt something was amiss and pressed further.
"Can you get a phone signal in Antarctica?"
Mobile phones need a signal to make calls, which requires ground-based communication base stations. The employee's phone number wasn't a satellite phone. Not only could they not make calls in Antarctica, but they couldn't even make international calls!
"A while ago, AT&T launched a new communication service. Domestic numbers can make international long-distance calls by activating a satellite service. The cost is several times higher than a dedicated satellite phone, but it eliminates the hassle of switching phones. You can get a mobile signal even in Antarctica," the CIA supervisor explained.
This was a new communication service launched by AT&T just a few weeks before Lin Feng became a Wallfacer. He had been so busy with Wallfacer matters, and this AT&T service primarily catered to the wealthy, so it hadn't garnered much discussion among ordinary people. Consequently, Lin Feng only learned about it now.
"What about the email? You couldn't find anything there either?"
Since the phone line was a dead end, why was the email line also a dead end?
The CIA supervisor explained, "The ETO is very cunning. The email you received was sent by them after they stole someone else's computer and used that person's social media account."
Because the computer was stolen, they couldn't trace the transaction to find clues. The laptop contained the victim's personal information, and the ETO members used the victim's social media account to send the email to Lin Feng.
"But they still had to connect to the internet, right? Why couldn't you track them through the network?" Lin Feng asked, unwilling to give up.
No matter whose computer was used, it ultimately required an internet connection to access the internet.
There were only two ways to connect: one was using a wired broadband connection, and the other was using a wireless signal, i.e., Wi-Fi.
However, regardless of the method, there were always traces.
Even if they used public Wi-Fi, it would still be in a public place, and there would inevitably be witnesses.
"The person used a private Wi-Fi from a family in the Canadian countryside to send the email. They also appeared to have used a Wi-Fi signal booster. The IP location was traced to a spot three kilometers away from the Wi-Fi source, where we found a physically damaged laptop. The perpetrator somehow obtained the homeowner's Wi-Fi password and then used that stolen laptop to send you the email."
"We've tried everything you considered, and even things you didn't. I'm truly sorry, we've done our utmost."
The CIA supervisor replied with a hint of helplessness. They had been confident at first, never expecting things to turn out this way.
"Alright, I now have a profound understanding of your CIA's operational capabilities."
Hoping to salvage some of the face the CIA had lost with the Wallfacer, the CIA supervisor proposed a plan to capture ETO members.
"Based on the content of that email, ETO members will appear at Washington Square in a month. We can cordon off the area and apprehend all the ETO members present there."
This time, it was because the ETO was well-prepared and had the element of surprise, so the CIA had failed.
But this did not mean the CIA was incapable of apprehending the ETO members who would appear at Washington Square a month later.
"No, on that day, your CIA only needs to handle the security work, ensuring that no dangerous individuals, such as snipers, threaten my personnel's safety."
Lin Feng rejected the CIA director's offer.
"You mean..." the CIA director was clearly taken aback.
"I will attend the invitation."
Since they had already issued a challenge, brazenly pushing their luck, if he didn't go, wouldn't that be tantamount to admitting he was a coward, afraid of these anti-humanity elements?
Other Wallfacers might worry about their Wallfacer plans being exposed by the Wallbreakers, but Lin Feng had no Wallfacer plan, so why should he fear these anti-humanity elements?
Therefore, Lin Feng had already decided. Not only would he go, but he would also strike at their core, delivering a heavy blow to the rampant ETO mentally.
He wanted to see what these ETO Wallbreakers were truly capable of, to break a 'wall' that didn't even exist.
The CIA director on the other end of the phone hesitated, smacked his lips for a long time, and then replied.
"Alright, we will provide you with the highest level of security."
CIA Meeting
"He said that?"
The CIA Director asked with a headache after his subordinate reported Lin Feng's request.
"Yes."
"Why didn't you try to persuade Lin Feng? The ETO is going to reveal his real Wallfacer plan." The CIA Director rebuked with dissatisfaction.
The failure of the previous Wallfacer had already dealt a severe blow to America's reputation. If this one also had problems and was broken by the ETO again, America would likely become an international laughingstock!
After all, in Hollywood movies, they, Americans, were experts at dealing with aliens!
"I don't want to become a member of the ETO. If you want to persuade him, you persuade him yourself."
The CIA director replied irritably. It wasn't just the director questioning him; even if the President questioned him, he would give the same answer.
He had indeed wanted to persuade Lin Feng at first, but as soon as he thought of the Major General and the reporter who were subsequently classified as ETO members and sentenced to life imprisonment, the CIA director lost all courage to even consider it.
If he were to try and persuade Lin Feng, he would be the one classified as an ETO member by the Wallfacer, not these superiors who spoke without consequence!
If they were so capable, why didn't they try to persuade him themselves!
The CIA Chief of Staff rubbed his temples with a headache and sighed.
"This is the Wallfacer's decision. We have no right to object. Let's hurry and make the arrangements."
