The Three-Body Game World
Giant pendulums, each dozens of meters high, their bobs massive stones suspended from skybridges strung between two slender stone towers by thick bundles of rope.
These pendulums were now still, standing on the ground like terracotta warriors.
A group of people gathered beneath one of the pendulums, murmuring amongst themselves.
"Beethoven, how's it going? Is everything proceeding smoothly?" Qin Shi Huang asked.
"Everything is on track. According to our inside source, Feng Taylor has accepted an invitation to the Lincoln Memorial Hall to face Von Neumann's Wallbreaker challenge."
"Anything else?" someone asked Beethoven.
"No," Beethoven shook his head. "King Zhou, the Wallfacer has rejected the CIA's proposal to prevent the Wallbreaking operation."
King Zhou frowned in thought for a moment before retorting, "Could it be intentional misdirection? Even if the CIA doesn't act based on the inside information, other American intelligence agencies could still make a move."
"It shouldn't be. Feng Taylor knows it would be pointless," someone answered King Zhou's question.
The purpose of the stage operation wasn't to reveal the plan, but to strike at the heart and deliver a fatal blow to Feng Taylor on a psychological level.
This was precisely why the challenge was set to take place at Washington Square.
"If Von Neumann is killed before the Wallbreaking, it will prove that humanity is truly afraid. Our ETO's Wallbreaking work so far has been very effective, and the Lord will value us even more."
"And Von Neumann's death won't stop the Wallbreaking. Feng Taylor's plan will still be made public. Von Neumann's death will only make the world believe even more..."
"Their Wallfacer has failed again."
Sacrificing Von Neumann alone would earn them greater attention from the Lord!
The ETO would prove to the Lord how great a threat they posed to humanity!
"This is something to look forward to."
Qin Shi Huang muttered, a smile breaking through his meticulously serious expression. He could already envision the Wallfacer, utterly defeated, a few weeks from now.
Time flew by, and soon it was the day of the challenge. Amidst the covert struggles of various parties, the ETO's stage operation commenced.
At the National Mall, Washington D.C., in front of the Lincoln Memorial Hall, Von Neumann was already waiting.
Besides Von Neumann, a large crowd of onlookers had also gathered.
The ETO had deliberately spread the news: 'Wallfacer Feng Taylor will be Wallbroken by an ETO Wallbreaker at Washington Square.' The message spread like a virus, permeating all of America in just one day, and by noon the next day, it had gone global via various social media platforms.
The ETO hadn't done anything particularly complex; they had simply released the information. What truly amplified and accelerated the spread of the news were America's various capital forces, such as the capital behind Washington Square.
Because of the ETO's stage operation, ticket prices for this venue had repeatedly surged. On the day of the decisive confrontation, they had climbed to seven thousand dollars each.
Yet, even at this price, the place was still packed. Seven thousand dollars couldn't dampen the enthusiasm of these onlookers.
A motorcade of black presidential cars was parked by the roadside. A group of bodyguards, all dressed in black suits, disembarked from the vehicles, parting the congested crowd to clear a wide path.
Lin Feng stepped out of a presidential car, followed closely by several CIA agents responsible for his security, entering the National Mall, Washington D.C.
Upon seeing Lin Feng's arrival, Von Neumann politely bowed to him.
"You're late, Feng Taylor. I thought you might not come today."
"Alas, being a Wallfacer is quite demanding. I have to live a decadent and unhealthy lifestyle every day to confuse the Trisolarans. If I hadn't read today's newspaper, I would have almost forgotten about you all. My apologies."
Though he said "apologies," there was no hint of remorse in his words. Von Neumann could only detect a strong undercurrent of hostility.
"I understand you. To use a popular phrase, a Wallfacer is on the '007 Work System,' working 24 hours a day. It's the same for me, really." Von Neumann hesitated, then continued, "Well... if I recall correctly, the '007 Work System' implemented in various countries today was actually proposed by you, wasn't it?"
The expressions on the faces of the onlookers, which had been full of various emotions, gradually faded.
The air became incredibly heavy and silent, like a volcano on the verge of eruption.
Someone broke the oppressive silence, and in an instant, the crowd erupted.
"What?!"
"The '007 Work System' was proposed by the Wallfacer!"
"You hateful devil!"
"Monster!"
"How could he do this? I trusted him so much before!"
Many people were eager to rush forward and beat Lin Feng, but they were held back by the bodyguards who had accompanied him.
These bodyguards were elites drawn from the military and police forces, not only strong but also skilled in combat.
Of course, it was also partly because the number of onlookers wasn't large enough yet. If there were several times more people, the situation would truly become uncontrollable.
Von Neumann continued speaking as if no one else was there, "You know, we ETO members also need to eat, sleep, and live. We need to work normally in society and receive a salary."
"The '007 Work System' will exhaust the majority of humanity to the point where they won't have the energy for much thought, including us ETO members hidden within human society. You hope to stop us from Wallbreaking you this way..."
The ETO, in essence, were still human. And humans needed to eat, drink, and use the restroom normally.
Therefore, ETO members, if they wanted to survive, had no choice but to earn money through labor, just like everyone else, to cover their daily expenses.
The '007 Work System' promoted by Lin Feng had a global impact, and the ETO couldn't evade it, thus being forced into overtime.
The ETO members believed this was Lin Feng's strategy, yet Lin Feng had never actually considered such a thing.
Huh? What is he talking about?
Stopping the ETO's Wallbreakers through the 007 Work System? How come I didn't know about that?
Lin Feng's expression didn't change. The other party was praising him. If he showed any reaction, wouldn't that make his intelligence seem lower than that of an ETO member?
Seeing that Lin Feng had no reaction, the Wallbreaker opposite him took it for granted and smiled confidently.
"It's a pity you miscalculated. We still managed to break your plan, even with the method you used."
"Do you know why we chose the Lincoln Memorial Hall?"
"All men are created equal. In the past, he defeated the slave owners and freed the black slaves. Today, I will also defeat the slave owners of this new era and liberate all of humanity."
After hearing this, Lin Feng didn't know what to say for a moment.
Damn it!
Where do you bunch of anti-human scum get the courage to portray yourselves so righteously?
You ETO members even betrayed your own race. Where did you get the nerve to talk to me about human rights?
Before you continue
