Background / History

Zhang Wei was born from the Hyperion, a ship capable of crossing space, time, dimensions, and the Sea of Quantum. Its accumulated memories—containing the thoughts and knowledge of beings from many worlds—became his own, and the ship chose him as its Captain. His life is inseparable from the Hyperion: if either one is destroyed, the other dies as well. 1

At first, Zhang Wei had not fully processed his vast inherited knowledge. He viewed the world with the distant indifference of a god, but he gradually became more grounded, humorous, and attached to the crew that made the Hyperion his home. 1

After breaking off a branch of the Imaginary Tree, he drew its pursuit for three years and left the Hyperion damaged. To restore its dormant functions, he began recruiting Valkyries from other worlds; ten passengers were needed to unlock a significant portion of the ship's capabilities. 3

His journey brought the Hyperion to the Elysian Realm, where he offered the Flame-Chasers physical bodies and a route out of their data-bound existence. He successfully reconstructed Elysia's body, restored her Herrscher Authority, and transferred her consciousness into it. 17 18 20

Appearance

Zhang Wei is a handsome young man with red hair, ruby-red eyes, and a refined, optimistic appearance. He normally wears the Hyperion's white captain's uniform and a white military cap marked with a gold circle and the character for “Captain.” 1

Zhang Wei is responsible in practical, unglamorous ways. Despite the Hyperion's shielding, he obsessively cleans its deck because leaving it unattended makes him uncomfortable. He also treats the ship's condition and the crew's safety as his personal responsibility. 1

He is playful, teasing, and often shameless in conversation, particularly with people he trusts. His humor can become deliberately provocative, whether he is pranking Mobius, embarrassing Theresa, or needling Welt. 25 82 232

Beneath that casual manner, he is protective and empathetic. He comforts Raiden Mei during her breakdown, helps Kiana regain resolve after Himeko's death, and chooses to arrest Cocolia and Xing Ma'er rather than kill them. 91 151 184
