Tang San is fiercely protective of his companions, especially Xiao Wu. When his allies are injured, he can become ruthless and bloodthirsty; in Rage State, he threatens Ye Lingling at spearpoint to force her to heal Shrek's wounded members. 112

He remains composed under extreme pressure. When Shi Nian traps him in the Remnant Dream illusion, Tang San endures traumatic visions, breaks the seventh Soul Skill, and kills the Soul Sage with the King of Hell's Invitation. 164 165

Despite his pride and occasional overconfidence, he is adaptable. After Fang Xuan arrests him over his unpaid debt, Tang San proposes forging weapons for the Heaven Dou Empire rather than accept execution. 114 115 430
