Background / History

Ning Rong is the granddaughter of Qu Ying, the Queen Mother of the West and ruler of the Jade Pool Immortal Realm. Her lineage gives her exceptional standing; she is described as having one of the strongest backgrounds among Changning Immortal Academy’s younger generation. She is also unafraid to challenge Dean Qiu Changfeng or invoke her family’s status. 13 14

At the academy, Qiu Changfeng assigned Ning Rong and Xiang Tian to opposite sides of the same spiritually rich mountain. Their first encounter occurred when Xiang Tian accidentally intruded on her while she was bathing at a mountain spring. Enraged, Ning Rong pursued him through the academy with sword attacks. 12 13

Her anger intensified after learning Xiang Tian was the student rumored to have crippled Ding Yang. Believing those rumors, she considered him an arrogant and notorious scion protected by Changning Immortal King. 13

Ning Rong is proud, fierce, and highly sensitive to perceived humiliation. After Xiang Tian accidentally saw her bathing, she repeatedly demanded that he surrender his eyes as compensation, refusing material apologies or treasures because she did not consider them meaningful. 13 17 18

She initially judges Xiang Tian through rumor and status, assuming Changning Immortal King’s support is the basis of his confidence. Her refusal to compromise escalates their conflict until Xiang Tian defeats and publicly humiliates her. 13 18

Ning Rong has exacting standards in romance and strength. Although Sinan Yao openly pursues her, she remains indifferent; she admires someone capable of surpassing other prodigies and standing alone against the world. 15

During Xiang Tian’s captivity at Jade Pool, she takes satisfaction in his apparent fear and proposes prolonged torture rather than a quick death, revealing a vindictive and cruel side when she believes she holds power over him. 34

Changning Immortal Academy Conflict

Ning Rong’s accidental encounter with Xiang Tian begins as a misunderstanding but becomes a prolonged feud. She pursues him after the bathing incident, confronts him during his duel with Sinan Yao, and tries to force him to surrender his eyes. 12 13 17

When Xiang Tian rejects her demand and destroys her barrier, he defeats her publicly. His threats against both her and Jade Pool leave Ning Rong frightened and humiliated. 18

Jade Pool Retaliation and Marriage Proposal

After Ning Rong returns to Jade Pool, Qu Ying targets Xiang Tian in retaliation for her granddaughter’s humiliation. Ning Rong continues to oppose the idea when Qu Ying declares that she will marry Xiang Tian to resolve the situation. 19 31 33

Ning Rong later attempts to torture Xiang Tian after Jade Pool captures him in a mana-less, shackled state, but Qu Ying intervenes and imprisons him instead. 34

When Xiang Tian and his allies defeat Qu Ying, Ning Rong is unable to intervene and faints after Xiang Tian again threatens to use his status against her. 41

Dao Sea Secret Realm

Ning Rong participates with Jade Pool in the Dao Sea secret realm. She avoids Xiang Tian after seeing him outside the secret realm, but later becomes trapped with several Jade Pool disciples by pitch-black creatures. 47 51

Xiang Tian rescues her only after Ye Xun asks him to help, then departs without further discussion. Ning Rong is left grateful yet wary of his rapidly growing power. 51

Ning Rong survives the subsequent inheritance arena as Jade Pool’s sole remaining participant and gains a one-level cultivation increase. 54
