Background / History

Xiang Tian entered Changning Immortal Academy ostensibly as a student, though he openly regarded his time there as an opportunity to relax rather than study. Qiu Changfeng and the Changning Immortal King nevertheless supported his cultivation, allowing him to refine the academy’s Sword Comprehension Stone and its contained Immortal King Sword Intent. 6 8

His background was initially unclear to outsiders. His treatment by the Changning Immortal King, use of extraordinary external protections, and rapid breakthroughs led factions such as Riyao, Jade Pool, and the Black Abyss to investigate him. The Dao Ancestor later recognized him as the World Lord and Lord of Ten Thousand Realms, while the Ice God identified him as a Heaven and Earth Spirit Body. 19 54 115

After confronting the Chaos Source entity formed in his likeness, Xiang Tian began questioning his reliance on powers borrowed from his sisters, the Companion Bracelet, and other external resources. He chose to seek independent training in the Land of Buried Gods rather than refine a defeated source for an easy advance. 93 95

Personality

Xiang Tian is confident, irreverent, and often deliberately provocative toward opponents who rely on status or threats. He treats most dangers with casual amusement, whether facing academy rivals, powerful clans, or enemy cultivators of higher nominal realm. 12 30 69

He is also pragmatic and adaptable. He has impersonated a Dragon Clan member, copied a worker’s identity through stolen memories, and used the identity of Chi Youran to move through the Eightfold Heaven without exposing himself. 37 57 61

Despite his violent reputation, Xiang Tian is not indiscriminately cruel. He has spared mercenaries, protected academy companions, rescued other cultivators, and chose not to kill Qu Ying partly to preserve the Nine Heavens’ martial fortune. 27 41 49 51 His later decision to train on his own reflects both pride and a desire to become strong without leaning on others’ power. 95

Abilities & Skills

Sword Intent and Swordsmanship

Xiang Tian refined the Sword Comprehension Stone’s Sword Intent and can employ sword energy even with his fingers in place of a weapon.

  • Split Sinan Yao’s green-dragon attack with a single sword-finger strike. 16
  • Uses an Immortal Sword as his primary weapon and can unleash sword qi powerful enough to sweep away demonic energy across a battlefield. 78 92
  • Destroyed the Xiao Family’s array with one sword strike and killed nine Thirty-Six Alliances experts in a single attack. 31 78
  • His sword intent and combat ability let him defeat cultivators beyond his displayed realm, including Void Shattering and Golden Immortal opponents. 30 73

One Qi Transforms Three Pure Ones

A supreme Daoist technique bestowed by the Dao Ancestor.

  • Splits Xiang Tian into three independent selves with the same cultivation level. 54
  • The three selves can fight in coordination and merge to triple his combat power. 54
  • Allowed him to confront multiple Immortal King-level monks and opponents at once. 109
  • When empowered by the Divine Source, his three bodies could each reach the Divine Realm. 93 94
  • The technique was insufficient to harm the Chaos Source doppelgänger within the Shen Nong Cauldron. 93

Nine-Character True Word

A Daoist divine ability absorbed from a stone tablet in the Nine-Layered Demon Pagoda.

  • Its absorption triggered Xiang Tian’s breakthrough to the Immortal King Realm. 106
  • Manifests as the nine-character mantra: Lin, Bing, Dou, Zhe, Jie, Zhen, Lie, Qian, Xing. 108
  • Produces overwhelming pressure and golden storms capable of reducing attacking cultivators to dust. 108
  • Combined with One Qi Transforms Three Pure Ones, it let Xiang Tian display combat strength comparable to four Divine Realm experts. 111

External Power and Summoning

Xiang Tian has repeatedly supplemented his own cultivation with powerful external resources.

  • The Companion Bracelet can store mana, enhance his attacks, alter materials, and facilitate the appearance of the Yellow Springs Black and White Division. 32 34 61 62
  • The Yellow Springs Black and White Division overwhelmed Qu Ying and later carried out Xiang Tian’s order against the Qilin Clan. 41 67
  • A seventh-grade god-level Divine Source significantly increased his strength and powered his clones during his confrontation with the Chaos Source entity. 67 93
  • Xiang Tian later acknowledged that he had relied too heavily on such borrowed strength. 95

Disguise and Infiltration

Xiang Tian is skilled at gaining information through deception and identity theft.

  • Impersonated a Dragon Clan member to intimidate spirit beasts in the snowfields. 37
  • Used Little Huang’s dragon aura and the Vajra Sarira to deceive the Ancient Demonic Ape lineage. 38
  • Refined a worker’s memories, copied his appearance, and infiltrated the Xiao Family’s Wind Spirit Ore operation. 57
  • Maintained the identity of Chi Youran while delivering altered Wind Spirit Ore to An Dong’s Divine Attendant. 59 61

Pill Refinement and Healing Music

Xiang Tian received pill-refinement knowledge from a Fire Qilin spirit, but initially lacked practical skill.

  • Inherited the Fire Qilin’s pill-refinement knowledge, pill cauldron, and the formula for the Undying Immortal Pill. 62
  • Repeatedly failed at pill refinement and destroyed several furnaces while practicing. 67
  • Obtained the Jade Flute and Calming Heart and Illuminating Melody, a score that stabilizes the mind, repairs soul and spirit damage, and assists cultivation breakthroughs. 49
  • Used the flute’s melody to calm and clarify the spiritual platforms of Xiao Clan members. 75
