Background and History

Capture of Xiao Wu and the Shrek detentions

Spirit Hall identified Xiao Wu as a Hundred-Thousand-Year Soul Beast after her aura was exposed in Spirit City. Bibi Dong ordered Ghostly Moon Guan to seize her; Tang San and the Shrek Academy members who attempted a rescue were subsequently captured and detained near Elder Hall. Tang San was later extracted by unknown attackers. 2 3

The detentions created a prolonged diplomatic crisis. Since most of Shrek’s members had prominent family ties, the Heaven Dou Empire, Star Luo Empire, Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Sect, and Blue Lightning Tyrant Dragon Clan pressured Spirit Hall for their release. 6 14

Struggle for continental legitimacy

Although its military power was formidable, Spirit Hall lacked the political legitimacy held by the Two Great Empires. Its leaders faced the problem that many Soul Masters still regarded their respective empires—not Spirit Hall—as their homeland and legitimate authority. 14

Xu Yu argued that Spirit Hall should present itself as a force for commoners and low-level Soul Masters, whom he believed would otherwise remain subject to entrenched noble and sectarian hierarchies. 18 95

Internal factionalism

Spirit Hall’s internal balance was strained by the divide between Pope’s Palace and Elder Hall. The Elder Hall contained senior elders and consecrators, while Pope’s Palace accumulated influence under Bibi Dong and her envoys. 46 70

During the pursuit of Tang Hao, Xu Yu fabricated an illusion in which the Third Elder betrayed Spirit Hall and joined Tang Hao in an ambush. The deception blamed Tang Hao for the deaths of Thousand Jun Douluo and Demon Subduing Douluo, intensifying hostility toward the Clear Sky Sect. 80

Hunting Operation and unification

Spirit Hall joined Bibi Dong’s Hunting Operation, which targeted forces within the Heaven Dou Empire that opposed it, principally the Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Sect and Blue Lightning Tyrant Dragon Clan. 233

The Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Sect and Blue Lightning Tyrant Dragon Clan were attacked and destroyed, with numerous high-level Soul Masters killed. 234 235 Spirit Hall later defeated the Clear Sky Sect, crippled its Soul Saints and stronger members, and advanced on Heaven Dou City. 252

After the Two Great Empires fell, Bibi Dong proclaimed herself emperor in Spirit City and appointed Xu Yu prime minister. The resulting Spirit Hall Empire unified the continent within five years. 252

Soul Tool development

Under the Ninth Elder, Spirit Hall invested in Soul Tool research and adopted administrative practices developed in Suotuo City. Xu Yu ordered these methods to be replicated throughout Spirit Hall before further innovation. 116

The Soul Tool Research Building became a major symbol of Spirit City’s development. Its products included bicycles that allowed ordinary people to make repeated trips to and from the city within a day. 183

Education and commoner advancement

Spirit Hall’s reforms expanded access to education and technical training. Low-status Soul Masters could improve their standing through assessments, while those with poor innate talent could receive introductory Soul Tool knowledge from local Spirit Halls. Ordinary people without Soul Power could study craftsmanship, science, and technology from childhood. 154

The Ninth Elder proposed a university system incorporating Spirit Hall’s Soul Master Academy, Ancient Soul Tool Academy, Modern Soul Tool Academy, and Commoner Design Academy. 155

Suotuo City administration

After taking Suotuo City, Spirit Hall confiscated the former city lord’s property, established cultivation and testing grounds, and reorganized the city through the Special Envoy Administrative Center. 101
