The soft yellow light illuminated the bedroom. Sirius Black sat by the bed, reading the letter from abroad over and over. His long-tensed nerves finally relaxed, and he let out a long breath.
A string of not-so-light footsteps suddenly sounded behind him. Two fair arms wrapped around his neck, carrying a pleasant fragrance. "Kreacher made jam scones. He knows you don't like things too sweet, so I specifically told him to use less sugar. Want to try one?"
Because of her pregnancy, the arms were no longer slender and were slightly swollen, soft to the touch. Sirius Black was deeply attached to that feeling. "He's obedient now, but he only listens to you. Sometimes I suspect you were his original master."
Betty laughed softly and toyed with his slightly prickly stubble. The sensation was strangely stress-relieving. "Stop complaining. If you don't go downstairs soon, the children will finish your scone."
"I didn't want any anyway." Sirius Black put away the letter, stood, and wrapped his arms around his wife. He kissed the corner of her mouth. "This level of sweetness is just right for me."
