Third Food War (20)
After all the members of the grain transport team withdrew to the center of the battlefield, the continuous breath attacks from beneath the sea gradually thinned out and finally stopped completely.
"Plop"
"Plop"
The attack had just ceased when a series of splashing sounds rang out on the sea. The next second, figures shattered the sea surface and appeared around the grain convoy, completely surrounding it.
Just when the people in the grain transport team thought the enemy was going to engage them in hand-to-hand combat, two giant gray -Black Great Dragon with a 99.999% similarity flew out from opposite positions on the inner edge of the encirclement (that is, at the two ends of a diameter).
After the two appeared, they didn't waste any words but immediately mobilized the magic power within their bodies. Seeing their actions, the surrounding group wisely retreated a distance, ensuring the two had enough room to maneuver. (Just kidding! Actually, they were afraid of being affected by their teammates' attacks!) As time passed, the Magic Particles in the air began to become disordered, and then, a layer of dark clouds covered the sky, as if a torrential downpour was about to fall at any moment.
The clouds hung lower and lower, and the air pressure increased, making it difficult for everyone to breathe.
Just as the dark clouds were about to descend upon everyone's heads, two loud shouts rang out in unison, echoing across the sky and making everyone's ears ring.
"Fusion Magic - Netherworld Underworld Domain - Yellow Springs"
"Buzz!"
A cloud of grayish-black smoke suddenly emerged from the midpoint between the two figures, then spread outwards. After the smoke dissipated to a certain extent, a column of brownish-yellow water began to gush out from its source. The water rose to a certain height and then scattered, enveloping the grain transport packages, the sea, and the grain transport team members in a hazy yellow rain.
"Laugh!"
A hissing sound emanated from the sea, accompanied by a layer of white mist. The packages that were drenched turned to charcoal at a visible speed, and then, along with the food inside, they turned to ashes.
Compared to these inanimate substances, the dragons that were drenched suffered far worse! The spring water was like the most potent poison in the world, turning their eyes, skin, flesh, and bones into pools of pus and blood that flowed from every part of their bodies. Not only that, but similar symptoms appeared wherever the pus and blood flowed. A powerful dragon was thus reduced to a skeleton, which then Dissolution into a yellowish liquid, eventually merging into the spring water.
All around was quiet, without a sound. Even the dragons that had been melted by the Yellow Springs water did not scream, as if they were so frightened by this incredible way of dying that they forgot to scream.
"Vomit!"
Finally, this vivid picture of hell was shattered by a vomiting sound coming from within the encirclement. Immediately afterward, it spread like the flu throughout the encirclement and beyond, becoming the dominant theme of the sky.
"That bastard, he actually used such a disgusting trick!" (Diphiya)
"Alright, stop complaining. He was just trying to end the battle as quickly as possible; he had no other choice!" (Grandiere)
"Although we all know all this, Sordil's tricks are just too... ugh! (Mevajena)"
"Just bear with it a little longer, it will be over soon!" (Yelibell)
Not long after Yelibell finished speaking, the Yellow Springs water indeed began to flow backwards, then disappeared into the center of the smoke. Immediately afterwards, the smoke began to shrink, finally vanishing without a trace.
After the smoke completely cleared, the grain convoy reappeared before everyone. However, compared to the vast convoy before, it was now significantly smaller. Those lucky survivors who had barely escaped death had completely lost the will to fight. So, once their vision returned to normal, they fled in all directions without hesitation. As for the mission, that was no longer a concern for them!
"Encircle them!"
"Exterminate them!"
After Prince Sordil gave the order for a general offensive, the encirclement began to slowly close in.
Perhaps because the stimulus just now was too intense, the movement speed in the southern part of the encirclement was much slower than the other three sides, so the iron barrel formation turned into a pocket formation.
In this life-or-death moment, the besieged dragons pushed their potential to the limit, which dramatically enhanced their judgment and observation skills, allowing them to easily detect this subtle change. The next second, the members of the supply caravan frantically rushed towards the gap in the encirclement, with the clever Glaide, Glad, having the honor of becoming the arrow of this escape.
Although the encirclement on the southern front increased its speed, they were still a step too late. The vast majority of the grain transport team members had already slipped out through the gaps in the encirclement, with only a few unlucky ones who reacted slowly being trapped inside.
On one side was the high-spirited Ishgar Legion, and on the other were the terrified deserters of the supply convoy. This battle, a fight of equal strength, was naturally without suspense, and thus, the battle ended in no time. The besieged dragons, however, embarked on the same path as their fallen comrades, only their journey was far easier than the latter's.
Just as Sordil was about to order everyone to clean up the battlefield, the battlefield commander Yelibell, quickly approached him and whispered, "Brother Sordil, the situation has changed. An army is rapidly approaching us from the northwest!"
Igneel, the commander of the southern encirclement who had missed the opportunity and allowed the enemy to escape, happened to be approaching at this moment. Upon hearing Yelibell's words, he hurriedly said, "Could it be that those guys who just escaped have come back?"
"After escaping the encirclement, the members of the grain transport team ran straight south without looking back, while these people came from the northwest, so it couldn't be them!" (Yelibell)
"Then... who could be coming? (Igneel)"
"If I'm not mistaken, it must be those guys from the Western Continent who have come to help!" (Sordil)
Upon hearing Sordil's words, Yelibell sensed the situation carefully again, then nodded and said, "Brother Sordil guessed correctly. The people who came are indeed the personnel left behind by the Western Continent, and the leader is called Shideweig."
"I thought they were searching for us all over the Western Continent, but I didn't expect them to realize it so quickly! We miscalculated!" (Sordil)
"Hmph! I was just getting angry watching those grain convoy guys slip away right in front of me, and then these guys showed up, giving me a chance to really vent my frustration and get my revenge. (Ta-da! Surprised? Unexpected? That wasn't a mistake, but a carefully planned 'surrounding three sides, missing one' maneuver!)"
Seeing the excited Fire Dragon King, the young master hurriedly stopped him to prevent him from acting impulsively and causing trouble.
"Brother Igneel, I know you're upset, but now is not the time for us to fight to the death!"
"Brother Sordil is right. We are now behind enemy lines and could be surrounded at any moment, so it's best to evacuate as soon as possible! (Yelibell)"
Watching the two of them, husband and wife, working together in perfect harmony, Igneel silently thought to himself, "Yes, yes, yes! Your brother Sordil is always right!"
Seeing Igneel shaking his head repeatedly, the young master assumed he hadn't figured it out, so he continued his ideological education.
"Brother Igneel, don't worry, there will be plenty of opportunities for you to teach these Evil Dragon of the Western Continent a lesson in the future. For now, it's better for us to retreat!"
Faced with the two men's repeated advice, the humble Fire Dragon King finally adopted their suggestion and chose to retreat.
Thus, Prince Sordil, unaware of the situation, missed the best opportunity to annihilate the remaining forces of the Western Continent, giving the Evil Dragon of the Western Continent a chance to catch their breath.
"The Water Dragon Squad will stay here to create whirlpools and destroy the food scattered on the sea surface. The Fire Dragon Squad and Lightning Dragon Squad will provide cover. Once the mission is complete, immediately release a signal flare to notify the front line. After that, you will immediately retreat to the underwater cave and await the arrival of the main force."
"Yes!"
"The rest of you, come with me to intercept the reinforcements from the Western Continent and buy time for the Water Dragon Squad!"
"Yes!"
With the order given, the fighting machines began to operate, marking the final stage of this war that had lasted for nearly a month.
A cave in central Ishgar
It seems that darkness is the dominant color of this mountain, so much so that every time it appears in people's sight, it is shrouded in a dark veil, making it impossible to see its true appearance.
However, tonight its black veil was torn away by thunder in the sky, and some night travelers were fortunate enough to see some of its secrets hidden beneath the veil. For example, a lithe figure swiftly traversing the mountains, and a natural stone cave twinkling with lights.
"Whoosh"
With lightning speed, the agile figure flashed into the cave, then knelt on one knee and respectfully said, "Reporting to Master, our friends on the West Coast have reunited with their long-lost relatives, and they even joined forces to teach their Old Friend a lesson. Unfortunately, their Old Friend's defenses were very tight, and they were unable to break into Old Friend home. However, they successfully invited members of their Old Friend's family to their home, including an important member of Old Friend family."
How did they arrange for the members of their Old Friend's family?
"Reporting to the master, the vast majority of members were left in the northern residence, but that important member was brought back to the central main residence!"
"Hmph! It seems they're going to take that risky step!"
"Master, what should we do next?"
"We don't need to do anything, we just need to wait and see!"
"Yes, I understand!"
"Oh, right! Keep a close eye on that young master of our Old Friend's family, don't let him out of your sight!"
"Yes, sir!"
"Okay! There's nothing else, you can go now!"
"Yes!"
