The Situation Turns Perilous, Defeat Looms! (Part 2)
"Boom!"
A violent explosion, accompanied by a raging heatwave, swept in, rendering Sage Dragon's eyes and ears completely useless.
"Pooh!"
After spitting out the dust from his mouth, Sage Dragon roared anxiously and angrily, "What is that brat doing? Why hasn't he arrived yet?"
"My Sage Dragon, the situation is dire. Prince Sordil naturally wants to come to our aid as soon as possible, but if we don't devise a foolproof plan, I'm afraid not only will we fail to rescue us, but Prince Sordil will also perish. So let's wait patiently. Once Prince Sordil and his men have devised a solution, they will come to our rescue!" (Alsman)
"I'm afraid we can afford to wait, but the guys on the other side can't. If they launch their general offensive ahead of schedule, we're finished!"
Unable to receive a reply from the scout captain, Sage Dragon grew increasingly curious. He looked towards the captain, only to find him staring blankly ahead. Driven by curiosity, Sage Dragon followed the captain's gaze, and then felt an urge to slap himself. Not for any other reason than his own prophetic abilities.
Gazing at the Bobo of enemy troops ahead, even the Sage Dragon suspected that the opposing commander might possess the same ability as Sordil to hear the thoughts of others. Otherwise, how could he have timed things so perfectly?
"Gulp!"
Swallowing hard, Sage Dragon rallied his spirits and shouted at the top of his lungs, "Brothers, reinforcements are on their way! We must hold off the enemy's attack and defend this place!"
"Yes!"
Just as everyone was preparing to fight to the death, a loud roar came from behind them.
"Fusion Magic - Netherworld Underworld Domain - Yellow Springs"
"Buzz!"
A tremor ran through the air, followed by a cloud of grayish-black smoke rapidly billowing from the tent behind them. Simultaneously, countless vines extended from the tent, binding Sage Dragon and the others. Just as Sage Dragon were about to break free, a voice echoed within their minds.
"Everyone, please don't resist. These vines are there to help you leave. They won't hurt you."
Hearing the familiar voice, everyone gradually lowered their guard and let the vines pull them toward the tent. Some impatient ones (such as Sage Dragon and the reconnaissance captain) even complained that the vines were too slow and actively moved forward quickly in the direction they were being pulled.
Not long after everyone was dragged away by the vines, the Black Mist completely enveloped the area around the tent. Then, the Yellow Springs that had devoured countless lives reappeared in the mortal world and flowed towards the outer perimeter of the tent at an extremely fast speed.
"Laugh!"
The tent, which was directly in contact with the spring, was the first to suffer. It turned into a wisp of smoke and disappeared into the world under the erosion of the spring water. Next came the Teleportation Array set up in the tent, as well as the ground inside the tent.
Seeing the spring that had turned the tents to nothing, Kelsu and his encirclement were all horrified. However, they quickly forgot about it, because the deadly spring was already rushing towards them across the empty space. With their only thought being to escape, they had no time to think about anything else.
"Retreat immediately! (Kelsu)"
With the highest-ranking officer's order to retreat, the encircled group fled even more recklessly. Running for their lives on the ground was no longer enough for them, so they spread their wings and fled to their most proficient domain—the sky! But these springs seemed to have an automatic navigation system, and no matter whether they flew or ran, they could not escape them.
"Ah!"
"Help me!"
"Help!"
One by one, the unlucky ones hit by the spring water screamed as they fell into the spring, were assimilated into the new spring water, and then flowed to the other dragons.
Perhaps because it had lost its controller, or perhaps because the spring had become enamored with the dragon's deliciousness, the Yellow Spring appeared for much longer than the first time. However, this wasn't the most important thing. What mattered was that it had brilliantly fulfilled its mission of covering Sordil and the others' retreat and successfully destroyed Sordil's trump card— the Teleportation Array!
While Kelsu and the others were fleeing in panic, Sordil and his men had successfully retreated to Peterburg City of the Principality of Saint Dreo, and with the help of the garrison there, they had redeployed their defenses.
Despite this, Sordil was not in a good mood, because after a count, less than two hundred members had successfully broken through. This meant that they would have to hold off an enemy force nearly ten times their size with just these two hundred men. Looking at the not-so-precious city below, the young master really didn't have the confidence to do so.
At this moment, the young master could only pray that the other two fronts had not suffered too many losses, so that some troops could be transferred to support this area. Otherwise, he truly didn't know how to withstand the overwhelming enemy advance.
A moment later, two silvery-white lights appeared on the city wall, and then two soldiers ran over carrying two wooden envelopes.
Before the soldiers could reach him, young master Sordil darted out like an arrow, snatched the letter from their hands, and began scanning it at a glance. As time went on, Sordil's face grew increasingly grim, and by the time he finished reading the letter, his face was practically dripping with sweat.
"Hey kid, what's wrong?" (Kaldiz)
"Brother Igneel and his men couldn't reach the southern and North Camp before the enemy attacked. Although they eventually managed to withdraw, their troops suffered heavy losses. Currently, they can barely defend the city and are completely unable to support us, let alone organize a counterattack to retake the defensive line!"
Upon hearing this news, Kaldiz remained silent for a long time. After a while, he stood up, walked to Sordil's side, gently patted the man's shoulder, and then comforted him in a helpless tone, "You've done your best!"
After saying this, Kaldiz turned and left.
Although he was in dire straits, Sordil wasn't hopeless, for he still had one last trump card that could turn the tide. However, whether to use it left the usually decisive young master hesitant. Turning to look at his brothers around him, who were yearning for victory and survival, his hesitation only intensified. For that trump card, for them now, it would be tantamount to drinking poison to quench their thirst!
"Brother Sordil, wasn't the experiment you conducted back then a preparation for this kind of situation today? Why are you hesitating now?"
Sordil was utterly astonished to hear the voice resonating within his own mind.
"Sister Yelibell, you... how could you..."
"Heh! Brother Sordil, have you forgotten that the Poison Dragon is skilled in mind magic, and Mind Talk isn't that difficult to learn. What's so surprising about me mastering it?" (If Valen heard this, he'd probably cry in the bathroom! Heh!)
Faced with such a reasonable explanation, the young master didn't know how to refute it, so he could only skip this secondary issue and get straight to the point.
"Sister Yelibell, when did you learn about Dragon Slayer Magic?"
"I didn't know that the experiment was prepared for today's situation. After all, no one would have thought that the situation, which was so promising before, would turn out like this in an instant. But just now, Brother Sordil, you showed signs of wavering, which caught my attention. So I listened carefully to your thoughts and heard something so important."
"Sister Yelibell, I didn't mean to hide it from you, it's just..."
Before Sordil could finish speaking, Yelibell interrupted him.
"Brother Sordil, no explanation is needed, I believe you! I think others, if they knew about this, would also choose to believe you unconditionally, just like me!"
"Sister Yelibell, what do you think I should decide?"
"Hehe! I can't answer that question for you. You should ask your own heart!"
After saying that, Yelibell turned and left gracefully, not giving Sordil a chance to ask any further questions.
