Background / History
Origin began as the parent company controlling a network of companies registered by Xiao Meng through complex cross-holdings. This structure obscured control even from the registered companies themselves and protected Origin’s operations. Its first major public product was the Origin Accelerator, for which Chu Feng retained complete decision-making authority 3.
The company rapidly entered the software market with the Origin Accelerator, Personal Butler System, and Xiao Ke AI. Xiao Ke’s virus-scanning effectiveness and low-cost membership model destabilized the antivirus industry, prompting more than thirty major domestic and international antivirus companies to seek meetings with Origin 18. Within months, Origin’s software installations and user base had surpassed those of established rivals 19 136.
When iOS, Android, and Microsoft systems blocked Origin software, the company avoided surrendering its source code. Instead, Chu Feng chose to build an independent platform, phone, and operating system 27 32. The resulting Origin System received support from the Chinese Academy of Sciences and national media, while Origin’s partnership with Microsoft created Origin Mobile, jointly owned 68% by Origin and 32% by Microsoft 36 41.
Origin subsequently expanded from software into hardware, holography, materials, medical devices, virtual reality, heavy machinery, vehicles, aviation, and energy. Its rapid expansion was financed without bank loans; despite enormous construction and manufacturing investments, it retained strong cash flow and the highest credit rating 152.
