Background

Muzan is the demon progenitor and the source from which other demons originate. He reacts to traces of Sun Breathing with immediate disgust and treats even defeated demons he once empowered as disposable failures. 9

He sought out Tsugikuni Iwashiro after recognizing the swordsman’s exceptional talent. Exploiting Iwashiro’s fear of dying before surpassing Yoriichi, Muzan offered him demonhood and personally supplied the blood that transformed him into Kokushibo. 32 33

After encountering Yoriichi and the Scribe, Muzan came to view Sun Breathing users as existential threats. The Scribe pursued him for sixty years, leaving Muzan deeply afraid of direct confrontations with him despite his outward pride. 35 44 50

Muzan repeatedly experimented on humans to produce demons capable of countering Sun Breathing. His early attempts included transforming fishermen in hopes of creating water-aligned demons, but he killed subjects who failed to transform or proved too weak. 45 55

Muzan is ruthlessly hierarchical. He expects absolute obedience from demons, regards weakness as uselessness, and punishes perceived failure with torture, execution, or forced overexposure to his blood. 45 62 222

He places great importance on dignity, appearance, and status, retaining the class-consciousness of his human life. The Scribe exploits this vanity through taunts, though Muzan will suppress his anger and flee when survival is at stake. 159

Despite claiming invincibility, Muzan is highly pragmatic when faced with superior opponents. He uses subordinates as expendable shields, abandons plans when threatened, and repeatedly seeks escape from the Scribe rather than risk direct defeat. 50 498 532
