Background / History

Shinobu was raised in the Butterfly family as Kenchiro Butterfly’s daughter and Kanae’s younger sister. As a child, she and Kanae secretly listened outside a meeting between Kenchiro and the Scribe; when discovered, Shinobu fell and was helped up by the Scribe. Though embarrassed by the attention, she accepted the address he gave her and became part of the Butterfly family’s growing friendship with him 103 104.

She initially had a defiant, easily irritated demeanor. The Scribe repeatedly teased her for looking like a “tomboy,” urged her to smile more, and mollified her anger with small gifts—an exchange that became a recurring part of their relationship 104.
