Background / History

Dichai originated from a renowned samurai family and became a feared samurai commander. He maintained nearly a thousand samurai, ronin, and other capable followers, using subordinates such as Huang Fu to acquire young women for him in the Yoshiwara Flower District. Huang Fu's debt scheme trapped Koume and Gyutaro in contracts that forced them to sell themselves. 83

After becoming a demon, Dichai developed Blood Progeny, an ability through which demons born by his hand became extensions of himself. He cultivated an extensive network of demons, including Kamihito Ichi, Imamura, Tonryoku, Rokuya, and others, while concealing that his supposed subordinates were also potential vessels, reserves, and sources of power. 362 455

He initially served Muzan as Upper Rank Six, but his long-term goal was never simple loyalty. Dichai created a secret legion, cooperated with the Shinri Family and Crown Prince Ayu, and sought to establish an independent power base capable of surpassing Muzan. 430 497

Appearance

Dichai initially presents himself as a broad, muscular man around forty years old, with an imposing build and an aura described as mature masculinity. 296 His demonic body is scaled, while his head can retain a human appearance. 411

  • His true Upper Rank Six eye markings are entirely red, unlike the markings borne by Kamihito Ichi and Imamura. 363
  • He can alter his appearance to resemble demons connected to him, including Imamura and Kamihito Ichi. 509
  • After consuming numerous demons, he becomes an immense fleshy mass covered in tentacles and protruding faces. 520
  • His final form is a towering, multicolored fused body composed of one hundred demons, with Dichai's face positioned on its brow. 521

Personality

Dichai is ambitious, calculating, and intensely self-serving. He views humans and demons alike as assets to be cultivated, manipulated, traded, or consumed. Ayu was explicitly only a pawn used to test Dichai's plans, while even his loyal followers were ultimately expendable. 431

He is a patient planner who values information, experimentation, military strength, and political leverage. His schemes included infiltrating the Swordsmith Village for knowledge, creating demon-compatible Nichirin Blades, recruiting Ayu, building a legion, and arranging a false assassination attempt against the Emperor. 360 431 443

Despite his confidence, Dichai becomes fearful when directly confronted by the Scribe. He attempts to bargain with information about Hakuji and offers the Scribe a place beneath himself and Muzan rather than continue a hopeless fight. 361 362 His obsession with surpassing the Scribe and Muzan eventually destabilizes him, as the consciousnesses of consumed demons overwhelm his mind. 508 519

Abilities & Skills

Blood Demon Art: Blood Progeny

Dichai's primary Blood Demon Art allows him to create demons that belong entirely to him. These progeny serve as subordinates, additional lives, vessels, and sources of abilities.

  • Demons created by him can act as contingency bodies for his resurrection. 315 362
  • He can reconstitute himself from the flesh and blood of slain progeny. 361 362
  • He can take over a progeny's body, as shown when he emerged through Imamura and later Tonryoku. 363 523
  • He can access the senses of connected demons; he told Kamihito Ichi that he had seen events through his eyes. 360
  • Every demon born by his hand and everything they possess belongs to him. 362
  • The ability enabled Dichai and his created demons to break free from Muzan's control. 497

Demon Creation and Enhancement

Dichai can transform humans into demons and substantially increase his followers' strength.

  • A blood pool connected to his power converted humans into demons and increased the total number of his lives. 315
  • He enhanced Tonryoku with a blood-like gel and transferred power that raised Tonryoku's aura by over thirty percent. 455
  • He ordered followers to study Breathing Techniques before demonization, since techniques learned while human can be retained after becoming a demon. 412 461

Assimilation and Ability Plunder

Dichai can consume demons created by Blood Progeny and claim their bodies, identities, and Blood Demon Arts.

  • He used Imamura's Black Armored Claws after taking over Imamura's body. 363
  • He absorbed Nakime and other demons within the Infinity Castle, growing into a giant aggregate body. 509
  • His final form wielded the abilities of one hundred demons simultaneously. 521
  • Assimilation contaminates his mind with the consciousnesses of those he devours, eventually causing mental collapse. 519

Blood Threads

Dichai produces fine blood threads capable of entering a victim's body and extracting information.

  • He sent threads through a swordsmith's mouth, nose, ears, and eyes to reach the brain. 360
  • He used this method to acquire the swordsmith's knowledge before killing him. 360

Blood Sword Finger

Dichai can produce a blood-forged blade from his fingertip.

  • The technique easily pierced and carved deep grooves into a solid wooden table. 411
  • The condensed blood blade sliced the table cleanly in half. 411

Multi-Art Combat

In his final form, Dichai can deploy multiple inherited Blood Demon Arts at once.

  • Trembling Electric Purple — Generates blue-purple electrical attacks. 522
  • Poisonous Flying Insects — Releases a poisonous cloud of insects and crawling creatures through an Imamura-derived body part. 522
  • Trembling Sound — Produces a scream potent enough to threaten an opponent's eardrums. 522
  • Mouth of the Devouring Army — Forms a colossal mouth in his abdomen to swallow targets; it failed when used against the Scribe's sun-like attack. 523

Equipment / Weapons / Items

  • Flesh-and-bone greatsword — A massive weapon created from Dichai's own body; he claimed it combined Kokushibo's Void Cry God Departure with the Demon Slayer Corps' Nichirin Blade. 522
  • Demonic Nichirin Blade — An improved Nichirin-style weapon designed for demons and given to Crown Prince Ayu for testing. 431
  • Heavy armor — Worn when he forcibly entered the Infinity Castle after betraying Muzan. 508

Relationships

  • The Scribe — Primary enemy and obsession. Dichai repeatedly attempted to recruit, manipulate, kill, or ultimately devour him; the Scribe exposed the nature of Blood Progeny and defeated Dichai's final form. 362 521 523
  • Muzan Kibutsuji — Former master. Muzan punished Dichai for failed plans, later discovered his betrayal, and ultimately absorbed him for his abilities and knowledge. 325 497 524
  • Doma — Fellow Upper Rank who considered Dichai incapable of comprehending the Scribe's strength and openly criticized his failure. 324
  • Crown Prince Ayu — Political partner and pawn. Dichai offered Ayu demonhood, taught him to prepare for Breathing Technique training, supplied him with a demonic Nichirin Blade, and used his imperial ambitions for larger schemes. 411 412 431
  • Tonryoku — Loyal subordinate and eventual resurrection vessel. Dichai empowered him, sent him to lead the secret legion, and later took over his body to revive. 455 523
  • Kamihito Ichi and Imamura — Blood Progeny creations and false Upper Rank Sixes. Dichai used their bodies and abilities, then treated them as expendable replacements. 362 363 367
  • Nakime — Infinity Castle guardian whom Dichai infiltrated, immobilized, and absorbed to seize greater power. 508 509
  • Brain Eater — Uneasy collaborator. Blood Progeny helped Brain Eater complete its fusion-based transformation, but Dichai later sought to devour it as part of his own plan. 496 519
  • Shinri Family — Allied conspirators who helped advance his plans, though Dichai treated their assistance with mockery rather than gratitude. 411 430
