History

Sakura first meets Uchiha Cheng after he is injured fighting a serpentine creature called Nagato. She volunteers to care for him during his recovery, and Cheng later agrees to teach her ninjutsu. When Sakura subsequently disappears and is found unconscious in the wilderness, traces of Orochimaru are discovered near the scene. 124 125

During the Chunin Exams, Sakura is left as the only conscious member of her team when the Sound Ninja Trio attacks. She refuses to surrender Team 7's scroll or abandon her unconscious companions. 256 After Rock Lee encourages her to stop letting her long hair hinder her in battle, she cuts it off and continues fighting to protect the team. 257

Sakura later blames herself for relying too heavily on Sasuke and resolves to become stronger. Uchiha Cheng's severe injuries during the search for Sasuke cement her decision to train as a medical ninja. 353 360
