Background / History
Ulick Gamp was the first Minister for Magic and served for eleven years. He established the Ministry of Magic with support from the British Royal Family, built a network of loyal families and officials, and left a lasting influence on magical education and politics. His work included the foundational principles later known as Gamp's Laws of Elemental Transfiguration. 499 640
He elevated the Gamp family into one of Britain’s most influential pure-blood lines. To secure the loyalty of his followers, he created Black Gryphon Crests from the ashes of Gamp family members; the crests served as symbols of allegiance, protection, and transportation. 507
Gamp eventually founded the Immortality Organization alongside figures including the Goblin King, Dracula, Herpo, the Demonic Monk, the Eskimo, and the hidden Light. The organization pursued the Immortality Key and Elemental Artifacts, while Gamp sought godhood through the Heart of Darkness. 635 636
Having preserved himself for centuries through darkness, Gamp arranged for Yakei Go to contain the Heart of Darkness when he could no longer safely wield it himself. He later reawakened, supported Yakei as the organization’s leader, and returned to England to dismantle Moriarty Slytherin’s alliances. 506
Appearance
Gamp is a short, stout wizard with distinctive raised triangular eyes. He commonly presents himself in an imposing black cloak or a formal silver suit, using a silver wig to maintain an elegant public image. 506 525 705
- Wears a black cloak formed from his transformed black coffin. 506
- Uses a silver ring to contain Extis’s Horcrux. 506
- Publicly adopts a silver suit, silver tie, and silver wig to project ministerial authority. 705
- Can disguise himself, including as the sailor “Captain Jack.” 705
Personality
Gamp is intensely ambitious, authoritarian, and convinced that power belongs to those capable of taking and maintaining it. He regards himself as the only suitable leader for Britain’s wizarding families and pursues godhood with little concern for the survival of either the wizarding or Muggle world. 506 629
He is a capable political manipulator who rewards loyalty lavishly while treating betrayal as treason. He mobilizes wealth, ancient family obligations, monopolized industries, and public opinion to expand his influence. 507 509 525
Despite his cruelty, Gamp develops genuine affection for Yakei Go after years as his mentor. He restores Yakei’s severed ear with dark magic and continues to support him as the organization’s nominal leader. 506
Gamp’s arrogance repeatedly undermines him. He dismisses Africa and its wizards, underestimates Moriarty’s ability to build alliances, and becomes increasingly unstable when his plans fail or his authority is challenged. 513 664
Abilities & Skills
Dark Elemental Magic
Gamp wields the Heart of Darkness, granting him exceptional command of Dark Elemental Magic and the ability to corrupt other elemental forces. 589 612

- Can leave his body, assume another form, and return to revive him. 740

- Can be influenced or seized by Light, leaving Gamp vulnerable despite his reliance on it. 753
Light-Dark Prelude
Working with Light, Gamp combines Dark and Light Elemental Magic into the Light-Dark Prelude, a large-scale spell that controls life and death. 629 662

Political Influence
Gamp’s greatest non-magical strength is his extensive network of families, Ministry personnel, schools, and loyalists. 499 507
- Recalled old supporters through the Black Gryphon Crests after his return to Britain. 507
- Appointed Matthew as Head of the Department of Mysteries and retrieved every Ministry Time-Turner. 507
