Background / History

Hong Yun is a transmigrator who awakened as the first crimson cloud formed after Pangu created heaven and earth. His origin combines the First Innate Cloud with Pangu's bloodline, giving him both an Innate Demon God foundation and a hidden connection to the Witch Clan. Aware that the original Hong Yun was destined to die after yielding his seat, he set out to alter that fate through cultivation, foresight, and a reward-granting praise System 1 2 38.

After failing to locate the Three Immortal Islands, he discovered a hidden floating island in the East Sea. He claimed it as his sanctuary and obtained the Myriad Phenomena Mirror and Void-Escaping Shuttle there, then departed for Buzhou Mountain to seek stronger figures from whom he could gain System rewards 2.

While traveling, Hong Yun encountered Hongjun. Initially fearing punishment for intruding into Hongjun's sanctuary, he won the Dao Ancestor's favor through submission, praise, and calculated sincerity. He later helped Hongjun realize that spreading the Dao was connected to attaining enlightenment, then pressed to become his disciple. Hongjun initially deferred the matter because of Heavenly Dao revelations, but promised to accept him later; Hong Yun ultimately became Hongjun's first disciple 5 7 8 77.

At Buzhou Mountain, Hong Yun released the Pangu bloodline concealed beneath his Innate Cloud Qi and was accepted as a brother of the Twelve Ancestral Witches. He learned from their laws, developed close ties with them, and used his exceptional comprehension to defeat Zhurong and Dijiang in sparring matches 11 19 20.

Appearance

Hong Yun is usually depicted as an exceptionally handsome Daoist with flowing red hair, sharp brows, and an ethereal bearing. His refined appearance contrasts sharply with the powerful Pangu-bloodline physique he reveals in battle 1 200 441.

  • Golden-and-red cloud-patterned Daoist robe upon first taking human form 1
  • Often wears a white or moon-white cloud-patterned Daoist robe 200 445
  • Long red hair, star-like eyes, and sword-like brows 200
  • Possesses a tall, muscular body whose strength is comparable to an Innate Supreme Treasure 441 445
  • Emits a wild, primordial battle aura when activating Pangu bloodline and wielding the Axe of Creation 441

Personality

Hong Yun is charismatic, calculating, and unabashedly opportunistic. His preferred method of gaining strength is praising others—often sincerely enough to please them, but always with an eye toward extracting System rewards, comprehension fragments, treasures, or political favors. He is capable of deception, moral pressure, and elaborate schemes when they advance his goals 5 7 23 196.

He presents different faces to different people. Before Hongjun, he is respectful and filial; around the Twelve Ancestral Witches, he enjoys displaying his strength; against arrogant opponents, he is playful and humiliating. Despite this opportunism, he is protective of his disciples, allies, and the Human Race, repeatedly acting to secure their independence and survival 20 40 146 167.

Hong Yun also values broad connections. His generosity, guidance, and praise earn him goodwill from figures ranging from Zhen Yuanzi and Minghe to the Witch Clan, Dragon Clan, Yao Race, and Chaos Demon Gods 23 167 270 629.
