Background / History

Crocus served as the doctor of the Roger Pirates and accompanied the crew to Laugh Tale. After the crew’s voyage, he became the lighthouse keeper at Twin Cape, where he watches over Laboon, the whale that repeatedly injures itself by ramming the Red Line while waiting for the Rumbar Pirates’ return. Crocus recognizes that Laboon will not listen to persuasion and worries that the whale may be seriously harmed, particularly in dangerous weather. 211

When Admiral Purple Kirin Senga arrives at Twin Cape, Crocus immediately recognizes him by his Rinnegan and reputation. Though Crocus is prepared for arrest or execution because of his former Roger Pirates affiliation, Senga instead temporarily puts Laboon to sleep to prevent further self-harm. 211

After Brook reunites with Laboon, Crocus witnesses Senga heal the whale and restore Brook to a living body. Senga then questions Crocus about Laugh Tale. Initially frightened that Senga seeks the One Piece, Crocus is intimidated into explaining what the Roger Pirates discovered. 212 213

According to Crocus, Laugh Tale exists in an independent space. The Roger Pirates entered it with the aid of a tall, cloaked Devil Fruit user of unknown identity, discovered the truth of history, and encountered the One Piece: a black, ten-tailed creature with a blood-red eye patterned similarly to Senga’s Rinnegan. 213

Personality

Crocus is devoted to Laboon’s welfare, even when the whale’s repeated self-injury leaves him feeling helpless. His concern is practical as well as emotional: he understands that Laboon’s need to surface for air makes unconsciousness at sea especially dangerous. 211

He is cautious around powerful figures and initially assumes Senga may arrest or kill him due to his Roger Pirates past. However, witnessing Senga reunite Brook and Laboon changes Crocus’s view of the Marine Admiral; he comes to see Senga as unusually humane despite his terrifying reputation. 211 215

Laugh Tale Revelation

As one of the Roger Pirates’ surviving witnesses, Crocus supplies Senga with critical information about Laugh Tale’s separate-dimensional location, the cloaked figure who led Roger’s crew inside, and the apparent nature of the One Piece. 212 213
