She studied the Snake-Taming Technique from childhood and became the strongest student among her peers at Beast Academy 16 67 260.

Meeting Zhao Zilong and Joining Shrek

Her first encounter with Zhao Zilong centers on a disputed snake Soul Ring in the Star Dou Great Forest. Confident in her strength, she agrees to a Soul Power contest, but he withstands her two-handed effort with one hand. Snake Grandma concedes on her behalf, and Meng Yiran suffers backlash when they withdraw their power 10.

Their dispute continues after Zhao Zilong kills a Man Faced Demon Spider she had also wanted. He promises to compensate her with a ten-thousand-year Soul Ring once she reaches level 50. She challenges him to a leaf-striking contest with throwing daggers, while Meng Shu arranges her transfer to Shrek so she can train among stronger peers 14 15 16.

Flender completes her enrollment, and Zhao Zilong shows her around the academy. Its shabby grounds disappoint her, while the other students' exceptional innate talent undermines her confidence in her own rank-seven aptitude. During her time at Shrek, she confesses her feelings to Zhao Zilong and becomes his girlfriend 18 33.

Leaving Shrek and the Spirit Master Competition

Meng Yiran objects to Yu Xiaogang's treatment of Zhao Zilong, believing that he sidelines him to keep Tang San in the spotlight. When the Shrek group decides to relocate to Blue Tyrant Academy, she chooses to remain with Zhao Zilong at Heaven Dou Royal Academy. She also handles his enrollment arrangements and obtains an independent courtyard 74 75 77.

Zhao Zilong's gifts substantially improve her cultivation: the Forget-Poison Flying Flower accelerates her growth, and a Mandala Snake torso bone grants her Supple Body. She competes for the Heaven Dou Royal Team and supports Zhao Zilong as his former Shrek classmates increasingly regard him as a rival 78 102 109 113.

Her rivalry with Huo Wu culminates in an arena duel over Zhao Zilong. Meng Yiran refuses to concede against Huo Wu's unstable Ring Merge attack and suffers severe burns when their skills collide. Zhao Zilong concedes for her, carries her from the arena, and asks Ye Lingling to heal her. The defeat damages her confidence despite her higher Soul Power and valuable cultivation resources 151 152.

Against the Star Luo Royal Team, she is assigned to hold back Zhu Zhuyun so that Zhu Zhuyun and Dai Weisi cannot form the Hell White Tiger. After the competition, Zhao Zilong gives her the thirty-thousand-year Swift Forwarding Wind Chasing Left Leg Bone 160 174.

Divine Dragon Island and the Snake God Trials

After accompanying Zhao Zilong through his post-tournament travels, Meng Yiran undertakes three years of poison cultivation on Divine Dragon Island. She repeatedly exposes herself to venomous snake bites, nearly dying numerous times before successfully forming the Hundred Poisons Body. Her desire not to fall behind Zhao Zilong sustains her through the ordeal 193 204 260 261.

During this period, Medusa chooses her as a successor and grants her the Serpent God's Nine Trials. She returns to Spirit City after completing two trials, reunites with Zhao Zilong, and reveals her level-62 cultivation. Her new confidence also intensifies her hostility toward his other lovers, particularly Hu Liena 261 262 263.

Her divine trials repeatedly separate her from Zhao Zilong. On one return after nearly two years away, she learns that several of his other partners have borne children and tearfully confronts him for previously refusing her wish to have a child 371.

Titled Douluo and the Star Dou Great Forest

Meng Yiran later arrives with her grandparents during Zhao Zilong's confrontation with Tang San and the former Shrek students. Now a rank-92 Titled Douluo, she challenges Dai Mubai, Zhu Zhuqing, and Ma Hongjun together, refusing to abandon Zhao Zilong despite Zhu Zhuqing's appeal 490.

She subsequently accompanies Zhao Zilong into the Star Dou Great Forest, guards him during Soul Ring absorption, and petrifies approaching Soul Beasts. She absorbs a hundred-thousand-year Qian Jun Ant Emperor right leg bone before their investigation of the Lake of Life leads to an encounter with Di Tian. After Zhao Zilong's battle, she leaves the forest with him as they seek treatment for his lingering injuries 497 500 501 502 503 505.

Personality

Meng Yiran begins as a proud, competitive young woman accustomed to being praised at Beast Academy. She initially dismisses Blue Silver Grass as a weak Martial Soul and resents Zhao Zilong's effortless victory. Nevertheless, she values ability over appearance, having rejected handsome but untalented admirers at her former academy 10 16.

Her affection for Zhao Zilong is accompanied by deep insecurity. The early loss of her parents, their difference in talent, and the advantages enjoyed by potential romantic rivals feed her fear of abandonment. She becomes openly jealous of Dugu Yan, Ning Rongrong, Xiao Wu, and other women who approach him 33 67 102 118 193.

Her loyalty is equally pronounced: she defends him against accusations, challenges perceived unfair treatment, and chooses to follow him rather than remain with Shrek. That loyalty can become hostile toward others; Ye Lingling later reveals that Meng Yiran threatened her into concealing her feelings 68 75 88 246.

Medusa's inheritance makes her markedly more confident, but also colder and more ruthless. Meng Shu worries about her growing fixation on Zhao Zilong and her killing intent toward Huo Wu.
