Background and History

Origins and Tang Sect Inheritance

Tang San carries knowledge from a previous life in the Tang Sect, including cultivation methods, poisons, forging, and hidden weapons. He grows up in Holy Soul Village with Tang Hao, initially believing his family background to be ordinary. Tai Tan’s recognition of the Clear Sky Hammer later reveals that his father is the renowned Clear Sky Douluo and that Tang San belongs to the Clear Sky Sect’s lineage 8 86.

His mother, Ah Yin, was a hundred-thousand-year Blue Silver Grass soul beast who assumed human form. Tang Hao eventually explains her identity and his failure to protect her, drawing a direct parallel with the dangers facing Tang San and Xiao Wu 178 179.

Shrek Academy and Early Cooperation with Zhao Zilong

Tang San initially trusts Yu Xiaogang’s cultivation theories. Zhao Zilong’s unusually old early soul rings challenge those assumptions, while his Blue Silver Grass and Tang Sect-like hidden-weapon techniques lead Tang San to suspect that he may also possess twin martial souls and memories from another world 3 25.

The two initially cooperate. While searching for Xiao Wu after the Titan Giant Ape takes her, they fight an injured Man Faced Demon Spider together. Zhao Zilong kills it with Tang San’s Godly Zhuge Crossbow, and Tang San guards him during ring absorption 12.

Tang San also begins passing on hidden-weapon techniques. He agrees to teach Oscar the basics and considers recruiting him into the Tang Sect. Later, when Yu Xiaogang decides to leave Heaven Dou Royal Academy after losing his Soul Power, Tang San chooses to accompany him and asks Xiao Wu to join them 26 63.

Hidden-Weapon Business and Tang Sect Plans

Through Ning Rongrong, Tang San meets Ning Fengzhi and earns substantial money selling hidden weapons, particularly the Godly Zhuge Crossbow. He sees both cultivation and outside alliances as necessary preparations against Spirit Hall, which he blames for his family’s suffering 94.

He refuses to exchange the crossbow’s blueprints for Bai He’s Crystal Blood Dragon Ginseng. Instead, he secures conditional support for rebuilding the Tang Sect: Tai Tan’s Strength Clan and Bai He’s Speed Clan will join if Shrek finishes among the competition finals’ top five. Tang San also promises Bai He two hundred Godly Zhuge Crossbows if he succeeds 97.

By nineteen, he is identified as the Tang Sect’s sect master. Before departing for further training, he entrusts its administration to Yu Xiaogang and the four elders 297 314.

Spirit Master Competition

Tang San acts as Shrek’s tactical center and vice-captain. Against the Berserk Team, he commands a defensive formation and uses poisoned Dragon Whisker Needles, but loses the final duel to Spider Woman after she receives support skills. The defeat ends Shrek’s seven-win streak 41 43 113.

Further losses expose the limits of his martial souls. Against Skywater Academy, his Clear Sky Hammer breaks the Ice Phoenix’s head but cannot stop the combined attack. During subsequent encounters with Zhao Zilong, Gentle Fist seals his Soul Power and leaves him badly injured. Even after healing, he recognizes that Zhao Zilong defeated him without using his full strength 135 147 149.

Tang Hao returns to train him during the competition period and reveals that Xiao Wu is a hundred-thousand-year soul beast. Tang San nevertheless continues to regard her as his beloved and refuses to accept harming her for a ring or soul bone 138 178.

Lost Awakening and Clear Sky Sect Training

Tang San hopes to reach level 50 and awaken the Blue Silver Emperor before Zhao Zilong. That plan collapses when he and Tang Hao discover that Zhao Zilong has already taken Ah Yin’s hidden soul bone and awakened the bloodline. Tang Hao leaves to hunt Zhao Zilong while Tang San remains behind to cultivate 186 189.

After reaching Soul King, Tang San visits the Clear Sky Sect. Fighting Tang Hu forces him to rely on mobility, poison, and hidden weapons because his ringless Clear Sky Hammer cannot match an opponent using the same martial soul with five rings. Tang Xiao teaches him the Nine Absolute Techniques of Haotian, and Tang San later wins the sect’s championship, crediting part of the victory to luck 223 224 225 233.

Xiao Wu subsequently sacrifices herself to him. Her soul resides in the resulting torso soul bone, while her red ring attaches to the Clear Sky Hammer. Devastated by his failure to protect her, Tang San accepts the possibility of resurrecting her. Tang Hao then agrees to teach him the Great Sumeru Hammer 239 241.

Return to Heaven Dou and Sea God Island

More than four years after the competition, Tang San returns to Shrek Academy. Flender tells him that Ning Rongrong, Oscar, and the Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Sect have been wiped out. Although Tang San remains close to Yu Xiaogang, he has largely exhausted his teacher’s theoretical knowledge and no longer considers it sufficient for his growth 281.

At the Heaven Dou imperial palace, Tang San defeats Qian Renxue with Explode Ring and the Great Sumeru Hammer, disrupting her long-prepared seizure of power. Zhao Zilong intervenes, repels the same hammer technique, and leaves Tang San painfully aware that both his martial souls are countered 305 306 312 452.

Tang San eventually travels with his companions to Sea God Island and receives the Black Tier Six Trial. There he reunites with his great-grandfather, Tang Chen, and continues training in the hope of finding a path to godhood 324 393 435.

His reunion with Xiao Wu’s revived body brings another setback: its new soul rejects him, while the original Xiao Wu’s soul confirms that the revived girl is a separate person. Tang San seeks Tang Chen’s support but cannot reclaim the body. Tang Chen later directs him toward the Star Luo imperial family’s legend of the War God 452 456 457.

War and Defeat

Tang San receives the War God’s god exam, but the outbreak of war prevents him from completing it. He also lacks time to obtain additional rings for the Clear Sky Hammer. During the conflict, he witnesses Bibi Dong kill Yu Xiaogang 488 490.

At rank 85, he faces Zhao Zilong in a decisive battle and uses Explode Ring. Zhao Zilong suppresses him with the Slaughter Domain, defeats him, drains his Soul Power, and poisons him unconscious. Tang San is bound, fitted with a Soul Power collar, and imprisoned inside the Sea God’s Trident; Qian Renxue kills Tang Hao during the same battle. Tang San’s death is confirmed later, though the supplied account does not show the fatal moment 491 520.

Parallel Jialing Pass

In a parallel space-time, Tang San has already obtained Sea God power and can wield Asura God power through fusion with Xiao Wu. After overcoming that world’s Bibi Dong and Qian Renxue, he confronts Zhao Zilong and his companions 530 532.

The Divine Soul Phoenix overwhelms him. Xiao Wu self-destructs in an attempt to save him, leaving him unable to fully wield Asura God Power. While he attacks Zhao Zilong in grief, Bibi Dong and Qian Renxue sever his arms from behind; Zhao Zilong impales him with the Asura Demon Sword. The encounter ends in Tang San’s death 534.

Rebirth

The later storyline returns Tang San to infancy with adult memories. Determined not to lose the Blue Silver Emperor awakening again, he prioritizes cultivation and draws Tang Hao into helping him much earlier. He initially rejects Yu Xiaogang, believing that the teacher sought an outstanding disciple chiefly to establish his own reputation 537 538 539.

Tang San reunites with a similarly reborn Xiao Wu and teaches her Tang Sect techniques. Their plans collapse when Xiao Wu disappears, Tang Hao stops answering his signals, and Tang San suffers repeated severe injuries. After nearly dying during his solo second-ring hunt, he reluctantly accepts Yu Xiaogang as his teacher and obtains academy assistance 539 540 541 542.

At ten, he reaches Shrek Academy and discovers that his old companions also remember their previous lives. By twelve, he has reached rank 35, and the system identifies his intense resentment toward Zhao Zilong as a continuing threat 543 547.

Personality

Tang San presents himself courteously, especially toward teachers and elders. Early in the story, he patiently indulges Xiao Wu’s complaints, respects Yu Xiaogang, and offers to bear responsibility for his father’s past actions before understanding their consequences. The system nevertheless describes him as outwardly refined but inwardly scheming 8 55 63 86.

He responds to setbacks with intense cultivation and practical adaptation. Repeated defeats eventually push him to question a purely control-oriented Blue Silver Grass build and develop soul skills that complement his hidden weapons 138 224 241.

His loyalty is strongest toward Xiao Wu, Tang Hao, and Yu Xiaogang, but it does not exclude resentment or calculation. He refuses to blame Tang Hao for the family’s past, grows deeply jealous of Zhao Zilong’s advantages, and, after rebirth, initially evaluates Yu Xiaogang in terms of what help he can still provide 94 175 314 538 539.

Abilities and Skills

Twin Martial Souls

Tang San possesses Blue Silver Grass and the Clear Sky Hammer, allowing him to alternate between control techniques and direct hammer attacks 146 223.

  • Unawakened Blue Silver Emperor: The system identifies his grass martial soul as an intermediate-grade, unawakened Blue Silver Emperor 8 297.
  • Exclusive awakening: Only one Blue Silver Emperor can awaken in the world. Zhao Zilong’s earlier awakening prevents Tang San from obtaining it 8 189.
  • Bloodline suppression: Against Zhao Zilong, Tang San cannot effectively use Blue Silver Grass and must rely primarily on the Clear Sky Hammer 300 490.
  • Ring limitation: His Clear Sky Hammer remains ringless well into his Clear Sky Sect training and still has only Xiao Wu’s red ring during the final war 224 490.

Blue Silver Grass Soul Skills

Ring Skill Applications and limits
First Entanglement Restrains targets; explicitly used against the academy gatekeeper after rebirth. The first ring comes from a Mandala Snake 224 538.
Second Parasite Makes Blue Silver Grass grow from wounds inflicted by his leaves. Tang Hu breaks it through an outward burst of Soul Power 224.
Third Spider Web Bind Launches a binding web. Its ring is barely over a thousand years old, making it much less durable than Zhao Zilong’s version 146.
Fourth Blue Silver Cage Encloses an opponent; Tang San combines it with switching to the Clear Sky Hammer for a follow-up strike 146.
Fifth Bamboo Leaf Sword Rain Uses leaves as hidden weapons. Obtained from ten-thousand-year Ghost Bamboo and chosen to exploit his throwing techniques 224.
Sixth Blue Silver Thorn Produces hard, barbed thorns between ten and fifty centimeters long. Obtained from a twenty-five-thousand-year Porcupine King 241.
  • His Blue Silver Grass carries poison from the Mandala Snake and Man Faced Demon Spider rings 224.
  • He plans an enlarged Godly Zhuge Crossbow that substitutes Blue Silver Thorns for ordinary bolts; their barbs cause further injury when removed 241.

Tang Sect Techniques

His inherited repertoire includes cultivation, movement, perception, poison knowledge, and weapon manufacture 8 36.

  • Mysterious Heaven Skill: Cultivation method retained across lives and later taught to the reborn Xiao Wu 537 540.
  • Mysterious Jade Hand: Used to deflect sharp Blue Silver Grass leaves, but fails to withstand Zhao Zilong’s Gentle Fist 146 147.
  • Ghost Shadow Perplexing Track: Footwork used to evade attacks and maintain distance 146 164 224.
  • Purple Demon Eye: Allows him to observe action through Skywater’s frigid haze and track fast-moving opponents 132 164.
  • Hidden-weapon techniques and Tang Sect Hundred Poisons: Support poisoned-needle attacks, leaf projectiles, and prolonged attrition against stronger opponents 41 224.
  • Godly Craftsman Forging: Listed among his abilities; he manufactures and commissions components for mechanical hidden weapons 8 95.
  • Other recorded arts: Hundred Forms of Hidden Weapons and Controlling Crane Capturing Dragon 8 547.

Clear Sky Hammer Techniques

  • Disorder Splitting Wind Hammer: Taught by Tang Hao and used against Zhao Zilong 225 298.
  • Heavenly Strike: A powerful hammer attack learned from Tang Hao; repelled by Zhao Zilong’s Revolving Heaven 146.
  • Nine Absolute Techniques of Haotian: Tang Chen’s self-created art, comprising nine methods of exerting force. Tang Xiao teaches it to Tang San even while his hammer has no rings 225.
  • Great Sumeru Hammer: Ultimately taught by Tang Hao; gives him the power to defeat Qian Renxue after exploding his red ring 241 305.
  • Explode Ring: Temporarily converts a ring into a major power increase. Its duration is limited, and the resulting expenditure can leave Tang San unable to continue fighting 448 491.

Xiao Wu’s Sacrificial Ring and Soul Bone

Xiao Wu’s sacrifice supplies a hundred-thousand-year Clear Sky Hammer ring and a Soft Bone Rabbit torso soul bone that houses her soul 239.

  • Void: Nullifies physical attacks and reduces Soul Power attacks by fifty percent 239.
  • Brutal Eight-Stage Fall: Temporarily gives Xiao Wu a corporeal body to attack, but each use weakens her soul 239.
  • Teleport: Soul-bone ability used to evade attacks and recover his displaced hammer 239 300.
  • Invincible Golden Body: Protects him from a spear strike that would otherwise pierce his chest 300.
  • Reduced burden: Teleport and Invincible Golden Body no longer consume Xiao Wu’s soul power after the sacrifice 239.

Parallel Divine Powers

These abilities belong to the parallel Jialing Pass counterpart, not his original-timeline rank-85 incarnation 491 530.

  • Sea God power: Includes Sea God Divine Armor, the Sea God’s Trident, and the Sea God’s Eight Wings 534.
  • Asura God fusion: Xiao Wu merges with him, enabling Asura God Armor and full use of Asura God Power 532 534.
  • Asura Judgment: Divine sword attack that overwhelms the fallen Angel God counterpart but fails against the Divine Soul Phoenix 530 534.
  • Dependence on Xiao Wu: His recognition by the Asura Demon Sword does not let him fully wield Asura God Power alone at that time 534.

Equipment and Soul Bones

  • Godly Zhuge Crossbow — His frequently used mechanical hidden weapon and a major commercial product. Its eight bolts pierce a tree trunk and embed in stone during a demonstration 94 241.
  • Dragon Whisker Needles — Poisoned thrown weapons used against several Berserk Team members 41.
  • Hidden Arrow — Given to Bai Chenxiang as a first-meeting gift 95.
  • Two arm soul bones — One sixty thousand years old and the other thirty-five thousand years old; strengthen his arms and improve his Clear Sky Hammer’s power 233.
  • Soft Bone Rabbit torso soul bone — Xiao Wu’s hundred-thousand-year bone, containing her soul and granting Teleport and Invincible Golden Body 239.
  • Soul Tool — Carries Xiao Wu’s rabbit form before she emerges to intervene against Zhao Zilong 511.
  • Shrek Academy student ID — Retained for years and used to verify his identity when he returns to the academy 281.

Relationships

  • Tang Hao — Father and hammer-technique instructor; Tang San’s principal protector and training guide 138 225 241.
  • Ah Yin — Mother; the source of his Blue Silver Emperor lineage 178 179 186.
  • Xiao Wu — Adoptive younger sister and beloved. Her original soul remains with him after her sacrifice; the new soul inhabiting her revived body rejects him 94 239 452.
  • Yu Xiaogang — Teacher and trusted confidant. Tang San grows skeptical of his theories but retains deep attachment; after rebirth, he initially rejects him before accepting his help and discipleship again 281 314 488 542.
  • Zhao Zilong — Initially a fellow Shrek student and collaborator, later his central enemy. Zhao Zilong takes key opportunities, suppresses both martial souls, and repeatedly defeats him 12 189 312 537.
  • Tang Chen — Great-grandfather; supports him on Sea God Island and suggests the War God inheritance as an alternative path 393 456 457.
  • Tang Xiao — Uncle and Clear Sky Sect instructor who teaches him the Nine Absolute Techniques of Haotian 225.
  • Tai Tan — Addresses him as Young Master because of his loyalty to Tang Hao; supplies hidden-weapon components and later helps administer the Tang Sect 86 95 314.
  • Bai He — Great-uncle and Speed Clan leader; provides the Crystal Blood Dragon Ginseng in exchange for commitments tied to the Tang Sect’s future 86 97.
  • Bai Chenxiang — Bai He’s granddaughter; Tang San gives her a Hidden Arrow and promises to look after her at Shrek 95.
  • Oscar — Fellow Shrek student and prospective Tang Sect recruit whom he agrees to teach basic hidden-weapon techniques 26.
  • Ning Rongrong and Ning Fengzhi — Connect him to the Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Sect and its lucrative interest in his weapons 94.
  • Qian Renxue — Enemy whose imperial takeover he disrupts; she later kills Tang Hao during the war 452 491.
  • Bibi Dong — Spirit Hall enemy who kills Yu Xiaogang before him and helps defeat his parallel divine counterpart 488 534.

Appearance

  • Original timeline: Wears a black cloak when returning to Heaven Dou City with Tang Hao 281.
  • Rebirth storyline: Retains extensive bodily scars after the failed second-ring hunt. Later suffers burns severe enough to require extensive bandaging and treatment by a Healing Type Soul Master 542 543.
