Guarding the Mountain

The clouds beneath the moon had a charm all their own.

Many people knew blue skies, white clouds, and green grass were beautiful, yet overlooked how beautiful clouds were beneath pale blue moonlight. Their edges were dyed bright by the moon, as though trimmed with silver. Quiet and faintly blue, they were soothing to behold.

Amid the clouds and mist beneath the moon, Bai Yujun hurried onward with red light blazing from her eyes, head pointed forward and tail pushing her through the air behind her.

Her arms spread wide, occasionally shifting to adjust her direction. From time to time, she turned her red eyes to inspect the mountains and rivers below and on either side, confirming her bearings. Whenever she plunged into clouds thick with vapor, only her eyes could be seen.

When others flew, they rode swords or controlled magical artifacts such as gourds and fans, all to maintain their image.

The more immortal-like, the better—riding a sword ten thousand miles with clouds drifting lightly and the wind blowing gently.

Bai Yujun was used to flying by instinct, and no longer cared about appearances. In true cultivation and godhood, who cared about gender or form? Being at ease was what mattered. Flinging her tail to accelerate was a talent; completely blocking the airflow meant she could not experience the joy of flight at all. Winged flight was exhilarating precisely because of that intimate contact with the air.

Her half-human, half-flood-dragon form was comfortable and convenient. If possible, Bai Yujun preferred crawling along the ground. Reptilian genes always longed to stay close to the earth, and her usual laziness was simply a snake's behavioral trait.
