| Demon God Pillar — Sovereign-class | 116–117 | A Gremory card and magic-circle ritual transform her demonic power toward Sovereign-class and bind her to the new Demon God Pillars. She becomes one of only six confirmed Pillars, leaving sixty-six positions vacant. 116 117 |
Background / History
Three thousand years before the present story, Rias was the Origin Demon of the Gremory lineage. Having no parents, siblings, or family of her own, she experienced familial affection while caring for the human King Solomon, whom the original Seventy-Two Pillars had helped educate. She repeatedly wanted Solomon to call her his “sister,” but he refused even when they made their contract. 116
In the present era, a summoning ring inadvertently responds to her as the 56th Pillar, Gremory. Rias later explains that she had been sleeping when summoned and was kicked back before she could fully manifest. 89 115
When she finally appears openly, Asachel and Michael recognize her as the first-generation Gremory. She receives a Gremory card depicting the traditional crowned, camel-riding form of the demon Gremory. 115
Rias is deceived into accepting the card and becoming a Demon God Pillar by a figure posing as King Solomon. The resulting connection bears the soul fluctuation of her ancient contract with Solomon, convincing her that the deception is more complicated than simple impersonation. She ultimately accepts the role and is tasked with finding candidates for the remaining sixty-six Pillars. 116
Her continued existence also affects demon politics: the revelation that the first Gremory is alive makes other old-era demons more wary of the Gremory family, limiting how openly she can recruit. 128
Appearance
Rias resembles a younger version of her descendant, Rias Gremory, with red hair styled in twin ponytails. 108 115 236
- Red-haired demon girl.
- Wears twin ponytails.
- Her Gremory bloodline is described as completely pure, without mixed demon blood. 108
Personality
Rias is strongly attached to the idea of family despite having been born without one. Her relationship with King Solomon gave her her first experience of familial affection, and she remains disappointed that he never accepted her preferred role as his elder sister. 116
She can be childish and openly petulant when ignored. After being refused a chance to experience time travel, she puffs out her cheeks, threatens to stop helping recruit candidates, and leaves through a teleportation circle. 129
Despite her complaints and initial frustration at being deceived, Rias accepts responsibility for the Demon God Pillars and takes the shortage of suitable candidates seriously. 116 128
Abilities & Skills
Demon God Pillar Transformation
Rias can integrate with the Gremory Demon God card through a specialized magic-circle ritual.
- Her transformation converts her demonic power into Demon God power and advances her toward Sovereign-class. 116
- The process establishes a direct connection with the card’s master. 116
- Her status as a transformed Pillar allows her to perceive other confirmed Pillars more directly than before. 117
Gremory Summoning Resonance
As the original Gremory, Rias can answer summoning magic linked to the Gremory ring.
- Bai Yue’s excess magic accidentally activates the ring and draws her response. 89
- Her initial manifestation is interrupted before she can fully enter the Human Realm. 115
Pillar Recruitment
Rias assists in rebuilding the Seventy-Two Pillars of Demon Gods.
- She is asked to locate suitable candidates for the sixty-six unfilled Pillar positions. 116
- Her movements are constrained by the political fallout of her return, since her presence elevates concern over the Gremory family’s influence. 128
- She helps bring Ingvild Leviathan to Kuoh after discovering her while investigating Leviathan-related candidates. 206
Equipment / Items
- Gremory Demon God Card — A card bearing the crowned, camel-riding image of Gremory; it transforms Rias into a Demon God Pillar. 115 116
- Activation Magic-Circle Paper — Used alongside the card to begin the Pillar-integration ritual. 116
Relationships
- King Solomon / Bai Yue — Rias cared for Solomon three thousand years ago and formed a contract with him; their bond is tied to her understanding of family. In the present, a Solomon impersonator uses that connection to bind her as a Demon God Pillar. 115 116
- Rias Gremory (descendant) — Her modern descendant. The younger Rias learns of her return, is concerned by her political impact, and arranges school identities for her group. 108 117
- Grayfia Lucifugus — Grayfia identifies the twin-tailed girl encountered by Rias Gremory as a completely pure-blooded Gremory, leading to the realization that she is the origin ancestor. 108
- Asachel and Michael — Both recognize her as one of the original Seventy-Two Pillars when she reappears. 115
- First Leviathan — Rias was a close friend of the first Leviathan; this connection leads her to discover and bring Ingvild Leviathan to Kuoh. 206
Story Role / Major Arcs
