"These Brits..." Sam lounged on the sofa with a relaxed expression. "Director Graves, they've left. Can I apply for leave now?"

Graves smiled at him. "What's the rush? I still have a few assignments for you."

Sam rolled his eyes. "More? I'm not taking anything too troublesome."

Graves pulled open a drawer, grabbed two file folders, and flung them hard. They hit Sam squarely on the forehead.

"Ow—Director, could you stop throwing things at my head?"

"You got a problem with that?"

"Wouldn't dare." Grumbling, Sam turned over and sat up properly, then picked up the file folders from the floor.

The assignments were not difficult. First, mentor the Aurors hired this year. Second, temporarily work with them to protect the Muggle President. Third, keep a close watch on the movements of the Muggle government.

"Protect the Muggle President?" Sam rolled his eyes again. "Director Graves, I can understand training rookies, but we're Aurors. Why do the last two assignments both involve Muggles?"

Graves glared at him. "Are you blind? Read it yourself!"

Sam curled his lips and lowered his head to look at the documents in his hands.

Something major had recently happened in the Muggle world: the Bifrost Project, jointly launched by the countries of Europe and the East.

First Britain, then Germany. The Muggle governments seemed to have grown tense with the Ministry of Magic because of this project. Rodriguez Randolph, chairman of the Magical Congress, along with a number of legislators, wanted to know why. That was why there were the latter two assignments.
