Origin and history

Ōtsutsuki clans cultivate chakra by planting Ten-Tails on inhabited worlds. The beasts absorb a planet's natural energy, become Divine Trees, and bear Chakra Fruits for the Ōtsutsuki to consume. 236

Kaguya Ōtsutsuki betrayed Isshiki, fed him to the Ten-Tails, consumed the resulting Chakra Fruit, and became the first being in the ninja world to possess chakra.
