Team Jonin

Graduating early required a certain level of strength. At the very least, one had to be able to fight an official Konoha Genin without losing, along with passing several assessments, before being allowed to graduate from the Ninja Academy early.

Hyuga Kiyomi and the others fully possessed that level of strength. The five who passed the assessments all had Ninja instructors at home, and after two years at the Ninja Academy, they naturally had Genin-level strength.

As for Uchiha Obito, he simply was not strong enough. Though he came from a prominent clan, he had been thoroughly brainwashed by the Will of Fire and spent his training time doing little good deeds.

If this were a time of peace, Uchiha Obito would surely have been praised by everyone. But in the crisis-ridden Ninja World, all that could be said was that he deserved to be plotted against for lacking strength.

Hyuga Mirai's assessment was relatively simple. The Medical Ninjutsu portion was merely a formality, while he easily passed the Ninja Academy assessment in a single attempt.

After receiving his Genin forehead protector, Hyuga Mirai was informed that he was to gather at Training Ground 3 the following morning.

Hyuga Mirai only knew that he would be on the same team as Hyuga Kiyomi. As for the third member, he would find out tomorrow.

"System."

A panel then appeared before Hyuga Mirai's eyes.

The Extraction Function was now usable. According to the system's explanation, it could randomly extract a scientist's complete knowledge and experiences. If Hyuga Mirai was lucky, he could obtain a highly useful Scientist Template.

For example, the scientist who invented Doraemon.

After extracting a Scientist Template, his body would need to receive the transferred knowledge and memories. Hyuga Mirai would enter a dreamlike state with no ability to resist, and it would last an entire day.

I'll try this function when I have time. I don't have the time to sleep properly for an entire day right now.

Hyuga Mirai looked over the other functions again. The Shuttle Function was still the same, loading as slowly as a turtle crawled, though it should become usable after a few years.

As for his own strength, he could already use the Three-Body Technique proficiently. He had not invested much effort into Shuriken throwing, so he was only at the level of an ordinary Genin.

As for the Gentle Fist, he had fully mastered the Eight Trigrams Sixty-Four Palms. He had tried to derive and practice Revolving Heaven, the Main Family's secret technique, but had yet to fully master it.

He still wore forty pounds of weights. That was already the maximum he could wear without making it obvious; any more, and others would notice.

All things considered, Hyuga Mirai definitely possessed Chunin-level strength. What he lacked was real combat experience.

After all, his previous sparring matches with Hyuga Kiyomi in the village had been more like playing around. They were still far from genuine life-and-death combat.

Now that I think about it, becoming a Genin does have its benefits. At least I can leave the village and gain some experience.

With that thought, Hyuga Mirai checked his Ninja tool pouch once more before going to rest.

The next day.

Hyuga Mirai arrived at Training Ground 3 in the village on time. By the time he got there, Hyuga Kiyomi and their other teammate had already been waiting for a while.

"Morning, Kiyomi-sama, and Yuhi Kurenai."

Hyuga Mirai greeted them both. He had not expected his other teammate to be Yuhi Kurenai from Class A.

"Morning, Mirai. We'll be teammates from now on." Yuhi Kurenai chuckled softly, her red eyes curving into crescents.

"You're too slow. You always arrive right on time."

Hyuga Kiyomi complained slightly. Though he was not late, she had brought this up several times, yet Hyuga Mirai showed no inclination to change.

"I checked my Ninja tool pouch again before leaving, so I was a little late."

And he always had a suitable reason, leaving Hyuga Kiyomi unable to say anything further.

Before Hyuga Kiyomi could get angry, Hyuga Mirai asked, "Where's our team Captain?"

"He hasn't arrived yet. I wonder who our Captain will be." Yuhi Kurenai spoke curiously.

"Either a Ninjutsu-type Jonin or a sensory-type Jonin, I think."

Hyuga Mirai considered it for a moment before speaking.

"If it's a Ninjutsu-type Jonin, then we'll be a standard mission team: Ninja, Taijutsu, Illusion Technique, and medical—a four-person team. If it's a sensory-type Jonin, then we'll probably be an intelligence-gathering team."

Yuhi Kurenai's crimson pupils gleamed faintly as she looked at Hyuga Mirai. "As expected of Hyuga."

Hyuga Kiyomi interrupted coldly, "No matter who it is, I just hope he doesn't arrive late."

Then, led by Hyuga Mirai, the three exchanged some information about themselves. Since they would be carrying out missions as part of the same team in the future, they would need some coordination.

Hyuga Mirai had a clear understanding of his own position: a Medical-nin who could barely use the Eight Trigrams Thirty-Two Palms. His actual combat level was that of an ordinary Genin, while his Medical Ninjutsu was at the Chunin level.

Unless his life was on the line, he would not reveal his hidden strength.

Whoosh!

A figure suddenly appeared at Training Ground 3.

"Is everyone here?"

The newcomer wore a standard Jonin uniform. He appeared to be in his twenties or thirties and spoke calmly to the three of them.

"I'm Kaminari Kaede, the Captain leading Team 5. For the foreseeable future, I will be your team Jonin. If there are no other questions, begin your introductions."

After Kaminari Kaede appeared, Hyuga Kiyomi and Yuhi Kurenai both turned more serious. He had suddenly appeared beside them using the Body Flicker Technique, yet neither of them had sensed a thing. If Kaminari Kaede had been an enemy, both of them would already be dead.

Hyuga Mirai then took the lead in introducing himself. "Hyuga Mirai. I specialize in Medical Ninjutsu and the Gentle Fist, though my Gentle Fist isn't as good as Miss Kiyomi's. My Byakugan has a viewing range of less than one kilometer."

"Hyuga Kiyomi. I specialize in Taijutsu." Hyuga Kiyomi introduced herself indifferently, without mentioning her likes or dreams at all.

"My name is Yuhi Kurenai. I specialize in Illusion Techniques, I like sweets, and my dream is to become an outstanding female Ninja like Tsunade-sama."

Yuhi Kurenai raised her hand and introduced herself energetically. But upon hearing her dream, Hyuga Mirai secretly shook his head.

Although Tsunade had not yet left Konoha, she was practically a wreck already. She spent every day either drinking herself senseless or gambling. On several occasions when Hyuga Mirai had been fortunate enough to deliver documents to the Dean's office, he had seen a drunken Tsunade.

If Tsunade's fans in Konoha saw that image of her, their admiration for her would surely diminish.

"Kaminari Kaede, Konoha Jonin. I enjoy training and specialize in Fire Style and Earth Style Ninjutsu. At present, only two regular teams can be formed from Ninja Academy graduates. Starting today, you are my subordinates. Now, I will test your abilities so I can evaluate you for our upcoming missions."

Kaminari Kaede gave the reminder calmly.

"Right here. Begin!"

The instant his words fell, Hyuga Mirai and the other two leaped away from where they stood. Within a second or two, they had hidden themselves in the forest.
