Background / History

Chaos Godsfiend and Reincarnation

Yang Mei was originally the Space Demon God, one of the Chaos Godsfiends. During Pangu’s opening of heaven, the future he glimpsed showed no second axe strike; Pangu nevertheless struck twice and killed him. A contingency Yang Mei had prepared allowed him to reincarnate in the Primordial World and cultivate again 415.

He initially regarded the Primordial World as a place to accumulate resources and rebuild his foundation, not a permanent home. His old contingency could support further Space Great Dao cultivation outside it, but finding another suitable Grand Cosmos would be difficult. He therefore intended to remain until attaining the Dao, then depart 415 464.

Ferocious Beast Calamity and Bai Yu

During the Ferocious Beast Calamity, Yang Mei concealed himself in the Endless Void and pulled powerful beasts into it to kill them. Hongjun, Rahula, and other leading cultivators failed to notice either his activities or the extent of his cultivation 415.

His confidence collapsed when he sensed Bai Yu wielding the Space Great Dao at the same 70% comprehension as himself. Rather than investigate, he fled into Extraterrestrial Chaos. Bai Yu, who only wanted to discuss the Dao, did not pursue him 414 416.

After returning, Yang Mei abandoned his original abode and created a Greater World sanctuary deep in the Endless Void. He spent a Yuanhui Era surrounding it with spatial defenses and escape warnings. Bai Yu later reached 90% Space Great Dao comprehension, bypassed those layers undetected, and knocked at his door 463 464.

Yang Mei received him respectfully. Their meeting developed into wine drinking, reciprocal gifts, and a prolonged exchange of Space Great Dao insights. Although both benefited, Yang Mei gained more because Bai Yu’s comprehension was substantially ahead of his own 465 468 479 633.

Dao–Devil War

Yang Mei initially refused involvement in Hongjun’s campaign against Rahula, preferring cultivation to personal feuds. Hongjun persuaded him by promising the Jade Plate of Creation for ten thousand Yuanhui Eras. His fear of Rahula’s Immortal Slaughtering Sword Formation also contributed to his decision 612 613.

The formation proved far more dangerous than expected. Its sword qi penetrated Yang Mei’s spatial layers, while the surrounding void was itself filled with lethal sword energy. His ordinary escape methods could not safely get him out 618 621.

After Qiankun Ancestor and Yin-Yang Ancestor fell, Rahula concentrated his attacks on Yang Mei, eventually unleashing a million streams of sword qi. Yang Mei maintained a composed exterior while repeatedly asking Hongjun for help and preparing a costly last-resort escape 623.

He survived for a hundred years at the Immortal-Severing Sword’s position—the formation’s weakest direction. His unexpected endurance prompted Hongjun to investigate, helping expose the flaw, though Yang Mei was too exhausted to exploit it himself 624 625 626.

Following Rahula’s defeat, Hongjun honored the promised loan. Yang Mei received a share of the battle’s karmic burden but considered it a minor price for access to the Jade Plate 630 633.

Blocked Enlightenment and Heavenly Dao Service

The Jade Plate’s assistance, his reincarnated foundations, and his earlier discussion with Bai Yu enabled Yang Mei to perfect the Space Great Dao. He returned the treasure to Hongjun, but his attempt at enlightenment produced no manifestations 640 645 646.

The Heavenly Dao had identified him as an exception to its intended order after reading accounts of other Primordial Worlds through the Multiverse Chat Group. It deliberately prevented him from becoming an independent Hunyuan cultivator. Hongjun, uncertain of the Heavenly Dao’s position, refused to meet or explain matters to him 647 659 661.

Yang Mei eventually sought Bai Yu, entertained him with his finest wine, and pleaded for an answer. Bai Yu listened and clarified the situation but would not pay the cost of freeing him from the Heavenly Dao. Yang Mei instead negotiated an official position, surrendering his freedom to obtain permission to attain the Dao 660 661 662.

Ten thousand years after the first Purple Cloud Palace sermon, Yang Mei attained enlightenment in the East Sea. He then released Sage pressure across the entire Primordial World for a thousand years to vent his accumulated frustration 666 667.

Pursuit of the Time Great Dao

After enlightenment, Yang Mei sought to follow Bai Yu’s example by mastering more than one Source Great Dao. He chose Time, drawing on a time-attributed treasure acquired during his former life and knowledge gained from the Jade Plate 667.

His efforts to borrow the Jade Plate again failed: the Heavenly Dao ignored his request for a fragment, and Hongjun refused another loan because he wanted to cultivate a second Dao himself. Yang Mei subsequently obtained additional time-type treasures and entered the River of Time to cultivate directly 675 681.

Appearance

Yang Mei presents himself as a gentle elderly man when welcoming Bai Yu, using a warm smile and deferential manner that conceal his guarded calculations 465.

  • Thick brows and guileless-looking eyes contrast with his scheming behavior 662.
  • Composed expressions can mask considerable fear; he smiles at Rahula while privately panicking under the formation’s attacks 623.

Personality

Yang Mei places survival above pride, treasure, or loyalty. Although sociable and widely connected among the Chaos Godsfiends, he protected or betrayed friends according to circumstances. His guiding attitude is to abandon the urge to rescue others and respect their destinies 415.

He is secretive, cautious, and proud of being better informed than those around him. Before meeting Bai Yu, he privately looked down on Hongjun, Rahula, and other leading cultivators. Discovering someone who matched—and later surpassed—his Space Great Dao mastery quickly turned that confidence into fear and respectful accommodation 415 416 465.

His Dao Heart remains resilient even when enlightenment is denied. Rather than abandon cultivation, he continues seeking explanations and eventually accepts permanent service under the Heavenly Dao. Achieving enlightenment does not end his ambitions: he immediately wants more Daos and better treasures 660 662 678.

His consideration does not extend to weaker beings. He forces the world’s inhabitants to endure a thousand years of Sage pressure and later disrupts their access to the River of Time without feeling obliged to restrain himself 667 681.

Abilities & Skills

Space Great Dao

Yang Mei’s defining ability derives from his former identity as the Space Demon God and culminates in complete control of the Space Great Dao 415 666.

  • Conceals his location and activities from powerful Innate Gods and Demons 415.
  • Pulls Grand Luo-level Ferocious Beasts into the void to kill them 415.
  • Opens a Greater World sanctuary and surrounds it with layered space and early-warning defenses 464.
  • Uses spatial layers to delay incoming attacks, though sufficiently powerful sword qi can break through them 618.
  • Holds a roughly sixty–forty combat advantage over Hongjun before the latter completely refines the Jade Plate of Creation; this advantage is insufficient to suppress him outright 677.

Karmic Concealment

Bearing a Great Dao allows Yang Mei to sever his karmic information, frustrating attempts to locate him through Cause and Effect 460.

  • Bai Yu initially finds traces of his aura without a usable connection to his current whereabouts 460.
  • Concealment is not absolute: Bai Yu’s superior Space Great Dao comprehension later lets him reach Yang Mei’s sanctuary undetected 463.

Hunyuan Pressure

After enlightenment, Yang Mei can project Sage pressure across the entire Primordial World 667.

  • Forces beings from Celestial Immortals to Daluo Golden Immortals to prostrate themselves and remain unable to move 667.
  • Sustains this display for a thousand years 667.
  • His unrestrained Space Great Dao resonance later overwhelms the River of Time, preventing most beings—including Daluo Golden Immortals—from sensing or entering it 681.

Dao Knowledge

Yang Mei combines his former Chaos Godsfiend experience with insights into the Three Thousand Great Dao Principles recorded in the Jade Plate of Creation 612 640.

  • Gains a stronger cultivation foundation through discussion with Bai Yu 633.
  • Uses connections between Great Dao Principles to accelerate Space comprehension 640.
  • Applies his existing knowledge toward the Time Great Dao; no completed mastery of Time is documented 667 681.

Winemaking

Yang Mei discovers fruit wine accidentally while tinkering out of boredom, then refines its color, aroma, and taste through dedicated experimentation. His skill becomes unmatched in the Primordial World 468.

  • Progresses from Low-Grade to Top-Grade Innate Spirit Fruits as ingredients 468.
  • Serves fruit wine in place of the customary spirit fruits, sweet dew, or tea 468.
  • Produces Star Wine from Top-Grade Star Fruit, aged for over ten thousand Yuanhui Eras 468.

Equipment / Weapons / Items

  • Jade Plate of Creation — borrowed: Receives it from Hongjun for ten thousand Yuanhui Eras after helping defeat Rahula. Its Dao-comprehension assistance helps him perfect Space; he returns it and is refused a second loan 630 645 675.
  • Former companion treasure’s fragments: Collects every fragment of the Space Demon God’s shattered treasure. The largest core fragment becomes a Top-Grade Innate Spiritual Treasure, but he cannot restore the original Supreme Treasure 677.
  • Time Compass subsidiary compass: A High-Grade Innate Spiritual Treasure obtained through a trade with the Time Demon God during his former life 667.
  • Additional time-type treasures: Acquires several lower-grade examples and trades with Hongjun for a high-grade one. He cannot obtain a suitable top-grade treasure free of Heavenly Dao entanglement 681.
  • Unripe innate gourd: Takes the seventh gourd from the Innate Gourd Vine. It contains Space Great Dao Origin, but he values it little because he already owns many space-type treasures and ripening it would require substantial effort 681.
  • Innate Spiritual Roots: Owns three Top-Grade Innate Fruit Trees, including one obtained in Extraterrestrial Chaos 468.
  • Wine jars: Uses a High-Grade Innate Spiritual Treasure jar containing a Qiankun World; one jar takes him and Bai Yu a thousand years to finish 468.
  • Bai Yu’s fruit gift: Receives one hundred Yellow Zhongli Plums and one hundred Water Origin Fruits for future brewing 468.

Relationships

  • Bai Yu — Dao discussion partner and occasional drinking companion. Yang Mei initially flees from him, later benefits greatly from his insights, and ultimately seeks his help with blocked enlightenment. Bai Yu rejects a burdensome lasting obligation but remains willing to discuss the Dao 416 468 633 660 662.
  • Hongjun — Longstanding Dao Friend, wartime ally, and eventual Heavenly Dao colleague. Their relationship becomes strained when Hongjun refuses to meet him during his enlightenment crisis; later competition centers on the Jade Plate and mastery of additional Daos 630 659 662 675.
  • Rahula — Former friend who becomes his enemy during the Dao–Devil War. Yang Mei joins the campaign reluctantly and nearly dies under Rahula’s formation 415 612 613 623.
  • Primordial Heavenly Dao — Authority that blocks his enlightenment, then permits it in exchange for permanent service. His official status provides protection but does not secure special access to its treasures 661 662 675.
  • Pangu — Kills his original Chaos Godsfiend incarnation during the opening of heaven, forcing him to rely on his reincarnation contingency 415.
  • Time Demon God — Former trading partner from whom he obtained the subsidiary Time Compass 667.

Trivia

  • Yang Mei is identified as the Primordial World’s first late-stage Grand Luo Golden Immortal and its first being to reach 70% Source Great Dao comprehension 478.
  • Bai Yu initially infers that Yang Mei must possess an Innate Supreme Treasure because his aura evades detection. Later accounts explicitly establish that Yang Mei lacks one and cannot reconstruct his shattered companion treasure 416 618 677.
  • Yang Mei correctly identifies Bai Yu as the Primordial Wilderness’s first Dao Attainer but keeps silent for fear of attracting his attention. He nevertheless considers it impossible that one person could be responsible for all four observed Dao attainments 637.
  • His official Heavenly Dao position is not identified by a specific title. His enlightenment does not make him a second Dao Ancestor 662 666.
