Complete refinement of the Heavenly Dao 368 372 Became the world’s true sovereign. His cultivation remained Rank 16, but full world empowerment supported Rank 17 combat power. Further progress required World Source and a Nascent Grand Dao that the depleted world could not provide.

Background / History

Origins in the Grand Primordial Cosmos

Hongjun’s former incarnation was the Qi Demon God, an unremarkable member of the Three Thousand Chaos Demon Gods. Pangu killed him with an axe strike. His reincarnation retained the inheritance of a Chaos Godsfiend, but not its original body or Great Dao Primordial Spirit; he began again with a new body, spirit, and memories 347 568 631.

The Jade Plate of Creation transformed his prospects. Previously a comparatively low-ranking Innate God and Demon, he gained exceptional Dao-comprehension assistance and the confidence to seek the foremost position in the Primordial Wilderness. Its arrival, followed by further treasures and spiritual roots, led him to suspect that the Heavenly Dao had selected him 568 610 631.

Dao-Devil War

At 99% comprehension, Hongjun learned that the Heavenly Dao had written a Dao-Devil War into his fate. Rahula had previously been a disliked rival rather than an unavoidable mortal enemy, but Hongjun’s blocked path to enlightenment turned their rivalry into a struggle in which only one could survive 607.

Hongjun spent several thousand Yuanhui Eras preparing. His Three Corpses investigated the Western Continent while he travelled, discussed the Dao, and strengthened his friendships. To secure Qiankun Ancestor, Yin-Yang Ancestor, and Yang Mei as allies, he offered access to the Jade Plate of Creation rather than relying on friendship alone 608 611 612.

The expedition underestimated Rahula’s Immortal Slaughtering Sword Formation, which drew power from the Western Continent’s earth veins. Qiankun and Yin-Yang died, Hongjun’s Self Corpse fell, and Yang Mei approached exhaustion. Hongjun replaced fallen allies with his remaining Corpses and eventually revealed the damaged Primordial Chaos Pearl as his final contingency 617 618 620 622 626.

Hongjun detonated the Pearl and broke the formation, damaging Mount Sumeru’s Ancestral Vein and devastating the Western Continent. His Good Corpse suppressed Rahula with the Taiji Diagram, while the Pangu Banner destroyed Rahula’s body and Primordial Spirit. Hongjun claimed the Slaughter Great Dao’s Source, the Four Immortal Slaughtering Swords, and their damaged Formation Diagram 629 630.

Restoration and Dao Attainment

The destruction brought immense Cause and Effect and Karmic Force upon Hongjun. He remained in the West to repair its earth veins, using his Good and Evil Corpses as labourers. He also honoured his promise to lend Yang Mei the Jade Plate for ten thousand Yuanhui Eras and spared the Demon Clan so it could share his karmic burden 630 642.

After ten thousand Yuanhui Eras, the veins were sufficiently repaired to prevent collapse, but the West remained the world’s most barren continent. Returning east, Hongjun accepted the Three Pure Ones as disciples, recognising their Pangu-derived origins and the fortune and merit their future Sagehood would bring him 645.

Hongjun completed the Qi Great Dao and signed an indefinite Heavenly Dao’s Spokesperson contract before attaining enlightenment. The contract permanently bound his fortunes to the Primordial World: he could not transcend independently, only alongside the world itself 645 648.

Meeting Bai Yu

Hongjun sought the five earlier Dao Attainers as potential friends. Instead, Bai Yu appeared alone, displaying five Complete Source Great Daos. Hongjun realised that all five previous manifestations belonged to one cultivator, whose aura alone left him trembling despite their shared Tier 30 realm 649 650 651.

Their subsequent Dao discussion lasted a thousand Yuanhui Eras inside Bai Yu’s time formation, while only a thousand years passed outside. Hongjun contributed extensive insights, especially into the Qi Great Dao, but gained far more from Bai Yu’s knowledge. He tried to turn the exchange into a teacher-disciple karmic bond; Bai Yu refused, and the Heavenly Dao punished Hongjun with Dutian Divine Thunder 653 654 655.

Sermons and the Mystic School

Hongjun delivered three sermons in Purple Cloud Palace, progressing from Celestial Immortal–Great Luo cultivation to the Three Corpses Severing Method and Quasi-Sage realm, then to Primordial Daluo Golden Immortal cultivation. He barred Innate Gods and Demons from attending, initially excluding Yang Mei as well 659.

After the sermons, he established the Mystic School and publicly named the Three Pure Ones and Nüwa as direct disciples. Cundi and Receiver became registered disciples, partly because of Hongjun’s debt to the Western Continent. He also appointed Wood Duke and Golden Mother to govern male and female Immortals 694 696 719.

Hongjun distributed major treasures to his disciples and announced that he would merge with the Dao in ten thousand years. Following a final private teaching, he completed the merger, dismissed the listeners, and concealed Purple Cloud Palace in chaos. Privately, he welcomed the opportunity to leave routine governance to future Sages and pursue further Source Great Daos 702 704 706 719.

Lotus Lantern World: Bai Yu’s Intervention

The Lotus Lantern World’s Hongjun first confronts Bai Yu over interference with the past and the removal of five innate spiritual roots. Already merged with the Dao, he commands the world’s laws but borrows their power rather than personally mastering them all 13.

Their battle reaches the Witch-Demon Tribulation and overwhelms both clans’ formations. Bai Yu destroys the world’s Destiny Source Law and cracks Hongjun’s Jade Plate. Recognising that continued resistance could destroy the world, Hongjun yields; Bai Yu supplies compensation in the form of Destiny Source Law, and Hongjun restores the disrupted past 14.

That compensation changes Hongjun’s prospects. He escapes the Heavenly Dao’s restrictions and exploits its damaged Source to contest world authority. Unlike the Six Sages, whose goal is freedom from Heavenly Dao restraint, Hongjun seeks control of the Heavenly Dao and the whole world 125 367.

Lotus Lantern World: Yuanshi’s Rebellion

Hongjun learns about Multiverse City by tracing Yuanshi Tianzun’s disappearance through the River of Time. He wants an All-Heavens Token, but recognises that the Chat Group’s Rank 20 Immortal Exalted is far beyond his ability to challenge 137 138.

While Hongjun concentrates on refining the Heavenly Dao, Yuanshi steals seventy percent of the World Source. Hongjun initially neglects the theft, then fails to stop Yuanshi’s escape through an All-Heavens Token. After stabilising the world over three hundred years, he completes the Heavenly Dao’s refinement—but finds that the missing Source has ruined his prospects of developing a Nascent Grand Dao 154 367 368.

When Yuanshi returns, Hongjun’s Three Corpses lose to their Rank 17 counterparts. Hongjun intervenes personally, producing a century-long stalemate with the Violet Qi River and Heavenly Dao Wheel. His home-world advantage is also a liability: a prolonged victory would devastate the world, while Yuanshi could threaten its inhabitants without defeating him directly 372 373 374.

Hongjun ultimately agrees to talks in Purple Cloud Palace. He feigns ignorance of Multiverse City to preserve his disciples’ respect and encourage Yuanshi to include him in its opportunities. His performance conceals prior knowledge, but his resentment over the theft and exclusion is genuine 375 377.

Appearance

  • Great Dao radiance: After attaining enlightenment in the Grand Primordial Cosmos, Hongjun is surrounded by radiance that lower cultivators cannot look upon directly. Beside Bai Yu’s blazing light, his own resembles a flickering firefly 650.
  • Heavenly Dao manifestations: The Heavenly Dao Wheel appears behind him, the Jade Plate hovers overhead, and rising violet qi accompanies his merger with the Dao 719.
  • Temporary thunder damage: Dutian Divine Thunder chars him black after his attempt to establish a karmic bond with Bai Yu. The complete Thunder Source Great Dao makes recovery difficult 655.

Personality

Hongjun combines sociability with careful calculation. He cultivates a strong reputation through generous Dao discussions, but also uses friendships to gather intelligence and recruit allies. He hides valuable treasures when exposure would invite attack and reveals them when the expected benefit outweighs the danger 485 608 611.

His ambition survives repeated disappointments. He revises his expectation of becoming the first Dao Attainer to second, then third, without losing his Dao Heart. Bai Yu’s achievements eventually make him abandon rankings, but also encourage him to keep cultivating rather than settle into authority 568 645 702.

His courtesy does not exclude ruthlessness. He accepts catastrophic karmic consequences to kill Rahula and treats the surviving Demon Clan as a means of sharing the burden. Yet he also spends ages repairing the damage and promptly fulfils his promised loan to Yang Mei 629 630 642.

The two versions differ sharply in their relationship with cosmic authority. The Lotus Lantern World’s Hongjun rebels when Bai Yu’s intervention gives him a realistic chance. The Grand Primordial Cosmos’s Hongjun remains sincerely loyal, understanding that his single Complete Source Great Dao cannot challenge the Heavenly Dao’s forty-nine 125 679.

Abilities & Skills

Qi Great Dao

  • The Grand Primordial Cosmos’s Hongjun carries and ultimately masters the Qi Great Dao, the path most suited to his former incarnation as the Qi Demon God 636 648.
  • His specialised insights substantially improve Bai Yu’s understanding during their Dao discussion 653.
  • After enlightenment, he seeks additional Source Great Daos; no further completed mastery is documented in the supplied chapters 667 702.

Three Corpses

  • His Good, Evil, and Self Corpses are durable manifestations, considerably stronger than ordinary fragile clones and not far below his true body during the Primordial Dao-Devil War 618 626.
  • Applications include reconnaissance, testing enemy formations, wielding treasures, replacing fallen formation defenders, and repairing earth veins 608 609 618 622 630.
  • His Primordial Self Corpse falls during the struggle against Rahula 626.
  • In the Lotus Lantern World, his Corpses are Rank 16 and lose to Yuanshi’s Rank 17 Corpses, even though Hongjun’s own world-empowered strength reaches Rank 17 372 373.

World Authority and Heavenly Dao Control

  • Lotus Lantern World: complete refinement lets Hongjun mobilise the entire power of a top-tier Greater World 363 372.
  • He can inspect the Three Realms, manipulate Heavenly Secrets, grasp the River of Time, and transport others through spatial laws 137 375.
  • World authority does not automatically increase his cultivation realm or provide a path beyond the world’s Rank 16 system 368.
  • Grand Primordial Cosmos: his representative contract grants authority and Heavenly Dao protection, but binds him to the world rather than making him its sovereign 648 650.

Violet Qi River and Heavenly Dao Wheel

  • The Violet Qi River gathers the Lotus Lantern World’s Source Laws into a world-spanning attack, strengthened by the Jade Plate and Heavenly Dao power 14 373 374.
  • It annihilates the spiritual treasures wielded by Yuanshi’s Three Corpses and gradually erodes the Pangu Banner’s law divine light 374.
  • The Heavenly Dao Wheel shields Hongjun from Yuanshi’s approach, allowing him to maintain a ranged stalemate rather than engage in close combat 374.

Dao Scholarship and Teaching

  • The Jade Plate gives Hongjun insight into all Three Thousand Great Dao Principles, although his knowledge outside the Qi Great Dao remains mostly shallow 653.
  • His public sermons systematically transmit cultivation rather than merely a single technique 659.
  • His final private instruction strengthens the listeners’ foundations through the truths revealed by heavenly might 719.

Equipment / Weapons / Items

Grand Primordial Cosmos

  • Jade Plate of Creation — Hongjun’s chosen Dao-Proving Treasure and principal comprehension aid. His core fragment eventually records nine Complete Source Great Daos; it is not Pangu’s original complete Plate, which contained forty-nine. Hongjun can track the fragment within the Primordial World 568 631 677 721.
  • Pangu Banner — Innate Supreme Treasure used by Hongjun and his Evil Corpse against Rahula; later bestowed on Yuanshi Tianzun 618 629 630 704.
  • Taiji Diagram — Sent to Hongjun by the dying Yin-Yang Ancestor, initially refined in an instant, and assigned to his Good Corpse. Later bestowed on Laozi 622 629 704.
  • Primordial Chaos Pearl — Internally damaged, incomplete Great Dao Treasure kept as a hidden contingency. Hongjun detonates it to break Rahula’s formation 626 630.
  • Four Immortal Slaughtering Swords and Formation Diagram — Captured after Rahula’s death. The swords remain intact, while the damaged diagram retains its Innate Imperishable Spiritual Light and can be restored. The swords are later given to Tongtian 630 704.
  • Companion treasure — An unnamed Top-Grade Innate Spiritual Treasure, set aside in favour of the Jade Plate as his Dao-Proving Treasure 568.
  • Dragon Head Staff and Kunlun Mirror — Top-Grade Innate Spiritual Treasures granted to Wood Duke and Golden Mother with their governing appointments 696.

Lotus Lantern World

  • Jade Plate of Creation — Amplifies his law power and assists his later attainment through Law; cracked during Bai Yu’s destruction of the Destiny Source Law 14 371.
  • Destiny Source Law — Compensation from Bai Yu that enables his escape from Heavenly Dao restrictions 125 367.
  • Taiji Diagram — Taken from Laozi’s control and wielded against Yuanshi’s Pangu Banner despite Laozi having fully refined it 370.

Relationships

Grand Primordial Cosmos

  • Bai Yu — Fellow Dao Attainer whom Hongjun reveres as vastly superior. Their discussion benefits both, but Bai Yu refuses Hongjun’s attempted teacher-disciple bond 650 653 654 719.
  • Primordial Heavenly Dao — Patron and superior. Provides the opportunities behind his rise, contracts him as its representative, and punishes his attempt to entangle Bai Yu. Hongjun’s loyalty is sincere, though the Heavenly Dao considers him replaceable 648 655 679.
  • Yang Mei — Dao friend, surviving ally against Rahula, and later peer. Borrows the Jade Plate for ten thousand Yuanhui Eras; lingering resentment does not lead to a fight once both become Heavenly Dao representatives 630 645 667.
  • Rahula — Rival transformed into a mortal opponent by the Heavenly Dao’s script. Hongjun kills him to clear the obstacle to enlightenment 607 630.
  • Qiankun Ancestor — Recruited through promised access to the Jade Plate; dies in Rahula’s formation 611 617.
  • Yin-Yang Ancestor — Recruited ally who covets the Jade Plate but is deterred by Hongjun’s strength. Gives Hongjun the Taiji Diagram at his death 611 622.
  • Laozi, Yuanshi Tianzun, and Tongtian — The Three Pure Ones and his most valued direct disciples. Receive the Taiji Diagram, Pangu Banner, and Immortal Slaughtering Swords respectively 645 694 704 719.
  • Nüwa — Fourth direct disciple. Hongjun recognises her exceptional Heavenly Dao-supported foundation and sees a kinship with his own rise 694 706.
  • Cundi and Receiver — Registered disciples selected partly to settle obligations to the Western Continent 674 719.
  • Fuxi — Not a formal disciple; allowed to remain for private instruction largely because he is Nüwa’s brother 719.

Lotus Lantern World

  • Bai Yu — Initially an overwhelming enemy; later the unwitting source of Hongjun’s opportunity to overthrow Heavenly Dao control 14 125.
  • Heavenly Dao — Former superior and rival for world authority, ultimately refined and controlled by Hongjun 125 137 368.
  • Yuanshi Tianzun — Rebellious disciple whose theft cripples Hongjun’s advancement plans. Their conflict ends in negotiations, while Hongjun hopes to gain access to Multiverse City through him 368 374 377.
  • Yang Jian — Source of the Multiverse City information Hongjun uncovers through time investigation. Hongjun treats him cautiously because of his connection to the Immortal Exalted 137 138.
  • Laozi, Tongtian, Nüwa, Cundi, and Receiver — The other five Sage disciples, gathered alongside Yuanshi for the negotiations in Purple Cloud Palace 375.
