Background

Kakashi is the younger brother of Feng Ye and the son of Hatake Sakumo. Sakumo's death affected Kakashi deeply; after graduating, his repeated conflicts with assigned squads left him without a stable team for over two years. Hiruzen Sarutobi refused Danzō's proposal to place him in Root, fearing Kakashi would become an emotionless tool. Instead, Hiruzen assigned him to Minato Namikaze alongside Obito Uchiha and Rin Nohara. 8

Already a Chūnin, Kakashi was renowned for his talent and could combine Fire Release with shuriken attacks during sparring. He nevertheless recognized Feng Ye's superior speed and suspected that it came from a Kekkei Genkai, responding to the gap by committing himself to further training. 5 6 7

He becomes notably rational under pressure.
