Erza grew up in Rosemary Village and formed a close bond with Kagura. During a Dark Magic Cult attack on the village, she tried to protect Kagura until Feng Ye intervened and saved them. 674

Four days later, Erza awakened Requip Magic while fighting to save Kagura from a brown bear. The awakening made her realize that she no longer belonged solely to the life of an ordinary villager; when Feng Ye offered to bring her to the world of mages, she chose to leave Rosemary Village with him a month later. 677 678
