Background

Thor is Odin’s son and Loki’s brother. He grew up hearing Odin’s stories about Sun Wukong and recognizes the Monkey King when they meet during the New York invasion 59 73.

After being banished to Earth, Thor loses his powers and access to Mjolnir. Loki tells him that Odin has died, leaving Thor convinced that his arrogance cost him the chance to see his father one last time. This is Thor’s belief at the time, not confirmation of Odin’s death; Odin later appears during Lin Feng’s confrontation with Asgard 59 84.

Appearance

  • Hair and build: Blond, handsome, broad-figured, and physically imposing 59 91 96.
  • Clothing: Wears a crimson or red cape during his appearances as a god 91 254.
  • Signs of grief: After Heimdall’s death, he has stubble, sunken eye sockets, a noticeably thinner frame, and bloodshot eyes 114.
  • Divine manifestations: Lightning flickers in his eyes and spreads across his body when he prepares to fight 114 254 255.

Personality

Thor’s early arrogance gives way to regret during his exile. His failure to lift Mjolnir leaves him anxious and helpless, culminating in a desperate cry before the hammer. Losing his powers also strips away the confidence tied to his identity as a god 59 60.

He remains protective of his allies and emotionally attached to Loki despite their conflicts. He confronts Loki over the invasion of New York, carries him away when retreat becomes necessary, and later struggles to protect an unconscious Tony Stark while under attack 72 131 259.

Grief increasingly turns into consuming hatred of Lin Feng. Thor seeks vengeance for Heimdall and Asgard’s people, repeatedly favoring direct attacks over discussion. Loki can still persuade him to pause or retreat when fighting would be futile 131 188 190 255.

Abilities & Skills

Lightning and Storm Control

Thor generates and gathers divine lightning, channeling it through Mjolnir or Stormbreaker 72 188 192.

  • Weather changes: His anger or preparations for battle darken the sky and summon thunderclouds 114 131 255.
  • Precision: Lightning aimed at Lin Feng strikes narrow gaps in Tony’s city without hitting its houses or residents 114.
  • Divine damage: Even the aftershock of a Mjolnir strike can scorch Lin Feng’s unarmored body 72.
  • Limit: Lin Feng eventually controls battlefield lightning and turns it against Thor, causing severe pain and numbness 192.

Divine Strength and Close Combat

Thor fights through forceful hammer and axe strikes, engaging opponents such as Sun Wukong and Lin Feng directly 74 188.

  • His collisions with Sun Wukong produce explosions that astonish the watching Avengers 74.
  • His strength exceeds that of most Asgardians, with the Megingjörð Belt identified as a major contributor 104.
  • His later strength approaches Lin Feng’s normal state, but Lin Feng’s transformed arms still overpower him 255.
  • Sun Wukong exploits both weapon properties and an existing waist injury to send him flying 74.

Lightning-Assisted Recovery

Thor can use gathered lightning to restore his fighting condition 74 190.

  • Repairs damaged armor and heals injuries during the battle with Sun Wukong, returning to peak condition after charging 74.
  • Reverses the freezing damage Loki leaves on his mouth 190.

Weapon-Assisted Flight and Travel

  • Mjolnir flight: Throws or swings Mjolnir and follows its movement through the air, including while carrying Loki 91 131.
  • Stormbreaker flight: Uses the axe to fly out and catch a falling Tony Stark 4.
  • Bifrost travel: Arrives on Earth through a rainbow beam after returning to Asgard 91.

Knowledge of Other Realms

  • Recognizes Sun Wukong from stories and the gods’ knowledge of other divine lineages 73.
  • Can roughly understand Dark Elf writing well enough to operate their ship, despite not being especially scholarly 96.

Equipment / Weapons / Items

  • Mjolnir — His longstanding divine hammer, associated with lightning and flight. Thor remembers wielding it for thousands of years, but cannot lift it during his depowered exile. Steve Rogers later carries it while Thor uses Stormbreaker 60 91 188.
  • Stormbreaker — A divine battle-axe made by the Dwarf King. It channels lightning, damages Lin Feng’s shield, and can cleave Infinity Stone energy. Lin Feng’s encounter with it motivates him to obtain the Twilight Sword as a comparable weapon 188 194.
  • Megingjörð Belt — Greatly increases Thor’s strength and helps explain his superiority over ordinary Asgardians 104.
  • Armor and red cape — His armor can be repaired through gathered lightning 74 91.

Relationships

  • Odin — Father. Thor regrets his arrogance after Loki reports Odin’s death; Odin also taught him stories about other gods 59 73.
  • Loki — Brother, rival, and recurring ally. Loki freezes and stabs him during the New York invasion, but later helps free him from Lin Feng’s restraint and escapes with him 72 131.
  • Heimdall — Asgard’s guardian, whose death Thor seeks to avenge. Thor repeatedly names Heimdall as a reason for attacking Lin Feng 114 188.
  • Lin Feng — Initially frees Thor from S.H.I.E.L.D. custody and takes him to Mjolnir; later becomes his mortal enemy over Heimdall’s death and Asgard’s devastation 59 60 114 131.
  • Tony Stark — Fellow Avenger and combat ally. They attack Lin Feng together, and Thor later protects Tony from Hunters while carrying him 255 259.
  • Steve Rogers and Bruce Banner/Hulk — Fellow Avengers who fight beside him against Sun Wukong and participate in the assault on Lin Feng’s base 74 188.
  • Ikaris and the Eternals — Help restore him as the God of Thunder and enable his return to Asgard 70.
  • Sun Wukong — Another god whom Thor recognizes from legend. Their confrontation becomes a contest of strength, with Thor repeatedly knocked back 73 74.
  • Dwarf King — Surviving ruler of devastated Nidavellir. Blames Thor for failing to protect the dwarves; also identified as Stormbreaker’s maker 91 188.

Story Role / Major Arcs

Exile and Failed Recovery of Mjolnir

Thor arrives in New Mexico through a beam of light and is taken into S.H.I.E.L.D. custody. Lin Feng infiltrates headquarters disguised as an agent and frees him, promising to take him to his hammer. Their escape vehicle is destroyed, but Lin Feng carries Thor away 58 59 60.

At Mjolnir’s crater, Thor cannot raise the hammer despite using all his strength. Lin Feng subsequently takes him to Cleveland, where Thor later disappears. Lin Feng eventually learns that the Eternals helped restore him and return him to Asgard 60 61 70.

New York Invasion

Thor confronts Loki at Stark Tower but is frozen and stabbed in the waist. His attempt to destroy the wormhole device with Mjolnir fails against its energy shield 72.

After Sun Wukong enters the battle, Thor fights him alongside the Avengers. He recovers through lightning and rejoins the fight, while Lin Feng closes the portal and takes the Space Stone 74.

Malekith, Asgard, and Nidavellir

A Dark Elf ship recording shows Thor and Loki confronting Malekith after he merges with the Aether. Thor’s enhanced lightning tears into Malekith’s expanding blood-colored storm 96.

Thor later spends considerable effort eradicating Asgard’s zombie outbreak, reorganizing the realm, and repairing the Bifrost. These delays leave him too late to prevent Thanos’s destruction of Nidavellir 91.

His anger toward Lin Feng intensifies over Heimdall’s death and Asgard’s losses. He attacks Lin Feng near Tony’s city, and later escapes with Loki after another failed confrontation 114 131.

Assault on Lin Feng’s Base

Thor joins Hulk, Steve, and Loki in attacking Lin Feng’s base, using Stormbreaker to widen cracks in its shield. Lin Feng blocks his axe with an energy glaive and knocks him back 188.

When negotiations fail, Thor and Steve attack together with Stormbreaker and Mjolnir. During the ensuing battle involving Captain Marvel, Thor charges into Lin Feng’s lightning-and-fire attack zone, only to be pinned in molten ground by redirected lightning and a hurricane 190 192.

Afterward, Lin Feng tells Thor and Loki to warn Tony that he intends to continue using the Infinity Stones, suggesting emigration rather than promising to protect Earth 193.

Ultron and the Time-Altered Conflict

Thor accompanies Tony, Loki, and Fury in another attempt to stop Lin Feng. Their initial attacks are redirected into Ultron. Thor’s subsequent assault reveals his multiplied strength, but Lin Feng blocks Stormbreaker with the Twilight Sword and sends him flying 254 255.

In a later time-linked encounter, Thor tries to protect Tony from Lin Feng’s Hunters, with Loki providing ice-based support. Thor is subsequently shown bloodied but still fighting the monster army on a damaged building 259 261.
