Background / History
Liu Ding initially had no recoverable past. Grand Fate Master Fang Xi found that his seven souls were damaged and that his memories could not leave an imprint, predicting that he would remain an idiot even as an adult. Despite this condition, he displayed abnormal physical strength as a toddler by lifting the First Soul-Forging Cauldron without cultivation. 2 3
As a child, Liu Ding was manipulated by Liu Ji and other clan children during an attempt to capture Golden Lion cubs. He disappeared after the incident, survived in the wilderness, and returned with Xiao Zhi, whom he regarded as his pet and fiercely protected. 3 5 His disappearance caused his mother, Yan Hanyan, to relapse into madness. 5
When cultivation was forcibly interrupted during Xiao Zhi's arrest, Liu Ding suffered Demonic Fire Affliction and fell into a life-threatening coma. General Jiang treated him using the Black Willow Coffin. Within it, Liu Ding experienced a dream of another life; afterward, General Jiang revealed that he had repaired Liu Ding's damaged seven souls. 12 13
Liu Yandong later learned that Liu Ding was his biological grandson. Although Liu Ding remained publicly bound to compete for the sect lord position, Liu Yandong began pushing him to cultivate seriously and protect what he valued. 14
Appearance
Liu Ding is a young, fair-skinned boy whose prolonged cultivation gives him a deceptively frail appearance despite his extraordinary physique. 18 23 49
- Fair complexion and rosy lips. 23
- Firm muscles developed through harsh cultivation, though his skin became pale from months spent training at night. 49
- Initially shorter than Zhi'er, he later grows to stand roughly half a head taller than her. 25
Personality
Before his souls were repaired, Liu Ding was innocent, forgetful, affectionate, and largely unaware of the malice directed at him. He continued caring for people who mistreated him and feared being abandoned by Liu Yandong or Zhu'er. 3 5
After recovering his memories and awareness, Liu Ding becomes sharp-tongued, mischievous, and far more politically aware. He openly mocks Liu Ji and Nie Zhengxu, but his provocations often conceal practical goals, such as forcing Liu Tao to help open his blocked Meridian Courts. 16 22 28
He is intensely protective of those he considers family, particularly Xiao Zhi/Zhi'er and Liu Yandong. His desire to protect them motivates his cultivation, business dealings, and decision to remain in the Liu Clan rather than flee. 11 22 40
Abilities & Skills
Exceptional Physique
Liu Ding's body was tempered through years of Soul Forging Cauldron medicinal baths, giving him physical strength far above cultivators of the same realm. 10 14
- Lifted the Fourth Soul-Forging Cauldron with one arm. 19
- Could defeat Martial Apprentices below the Four Cauldrons Realm through physical strength alone. 9
- His unusually powerful body initially hindered advancement because his Soul Power could not match its strength. 22
- His physique allows him to endure repeated strikes that would normally cripple another cultivator. 23 27
Meridian Court Cultivation
General Jiang identified Liu Ding's blocked Meridian Courts as the reason his high-level insight could not become a breakthrough. Liu Ding therefore adopted the method of being struck to force open these passages. 22
- Uses Liu Tao's attacks to open blocked Meridian Courts in his Eight Extraordinary Meridians. 22 23
- Can guide his body with the Seven Stars Steps to expose a specific Meridian Court to an incoming strike. 22 28
- Requires medicinal baths afterward to stabilize and nourish temporarily opened meridians. 23
- The Meridian Courts gradually clog again, requiring repeated training and resources. 23 24
Qilin's Surge
Qilin's Surge is the fifth-cauldron cultivation method that condenses Soul Power for an explosive release. Liu Ding began training it to protect Xiao Zhi and later employed its power alongside his offensive techniques. 15 33
- Requires the Five Soulforging Cauldrons realm to unleash true combat Soul Power. 9 15
- Used to support Dragon Crushing Hand. 33
- Helped him gather and control scattered soul qi in Everlasting Cave. 34
Seven Stars Steps
Liu Ding discovered the Seven Stars Steps scroll in the Liu Clan Library Pavilion. The technique uses seven Big Dipper-inspired diagrams and demands insight beyond the realm normally required to learn it. 19 20
- Enables precise evasive movement and positioning. 22
- Lets Liu Ding direct attacks toward selected Meridian Courts. 22 28
- Assisted him in managing scattered soul qi inside Everlasting Cave. 34
- Initially proved difficult because of its unusually demanding comprehension requirements. 20
Seven Souls Separation Method
The Soul Method within General Jiang's Small Jade Bottle allows Liu Ding to project his soul outside his body. 27 30
- Allows him to pass through walls and observe conversations or training unnoticed. 31 32
- After forty-nine days of practice, he learned to roam at night. 31
- His projected soul can be scattered by wind or harmed by powerful techniques. 30 32
- He must return to his body before the incense used in the ritual burns out. 31
- Zhi'er once saved his wandering soul by lighting Soul-Protecting Lin Incense. 32
Dragon Crushing Hand
After secretly observing Liu Tao practice the stolen technique and studying Mu Shan's Notes, Liu Ding mastered Dragon Crushing Hand in three days. 32 33
- Channels the coiling, explosive force of a dragon through his palms. 33
- His initial technique, “Two Dragons Playing with a Pearl,” gathered leaves into a sphere and shattered a large tree. 33
- Can be improved by gathering invisible Soul Power rather than visible debris. 33
- He used the technique to discharge an unstable sphere of mixed Yin Soul Qi in Everlasting Cave. 34
Du Ling Juice Refinement and Consecration
Liu Ding memorized the formula for Du Ling Juice, a medicinal liquid intended to assist advancement from Five to Six Soulforging Cauldrons. 35 36
- Obtains rare ingredients from Everlasting Valley. 36 37
- Successfully consecrated Du Ling Juice with his divine soul and infused it with Qilin Soul Qi. 37
- Uses it as a cultivation resource and to refine accumulated Yin Soul Qi. 42 49
- Partnered with Ximen Yaoji to sell it through the Spirit Herb Pavilion. 39
- Correctly identified the conflict between Liu Clan Qilin Soul Qi and the Taotie Soul Qi in Zhe Spirit Liquid. 41 46
Phantom Phoenix Soul Beast
Upon reaching the Six Soulforging Cauldrons realm, Liu Ding manifested a seven-colored Phantom Phoenix Soul Beast above his head. 50
- Can communicate with and guide the phoenix through his spiritual connection. 50
- Used it to enter the cave within a cave and browse preserved martial-skill manuals. 50
- At his current realm, the phoenix cannot manifest again once refined back into his Sea of Souls. 50
Cloud Turning Palm
Liu Ding discovered the universal-tier martial skill Cloud Turning Palm through the Phantom Phoenix Soul Beast. Its information entered his mind, but he had not yet demonstrated mastery. 50
- Usable from the Soul Forging Realm through the Beast Soul Realm. 50
- Its Soul Power stacks in successive layers and can erupt with thunder-like force. 50
- Liu Ding seeks to learn it as preparation against a possible Seven Soul-Forging Cauldrons Liu Ji. 50

Story Role
Defense of Xiao Zhi
Liu Ding's determination to protect Xiao Zhi drives his transition from a passive target of clan politics into an active contender. He challenges Liu Ji's presumed right to form a contract with her and insists that her consent—and victory in the Sect Lord Contention—must decide the matter. 15 16 17
Sect Lord Contention
As a direct-line heir, Liu Ding must compete for the sect lord position despite Liu Ji's advantage in realm and external resources. He rejects Taotie-based Zhe Spirit Liquid, trains toward Six Soulforging Cauldrons, and intends to defeat Liu Ji through steady cultivation rather than shortcuts. 16 41 42
Everlasting Cave and Everlasting Valley
Guided by General Jiang, Liu Ding enters the Liu Clan burial ground to cultivate with Yin Soul Qi. He gains ancestral acknowledgment, discovers Everlasting Valley, secures the Du Ling Juice formula, and uses the valley's resources to strengthen himself and support his household. 33 35 36 37
Pill Trade Fair
Liu Ding turns Du Ling Juice into a commercial weapon against the Murong Divine Pill Chamber. Through his partnership with Ximen Yaoji, he promotes a Qilin Soul Qi-based alternative to Zhe Spirit Liquid and exposes the danger of Taotie Soul Qi corrupting Liu Clan cultivation. 39 44 46
