Flender once traveled the Soul Master world with Yu Xiaogang, known as Master, and Liu Erlong. Together they formed the Golden Iron Triangle: Flender was the Flying Corner, Master the Commanding Corner, and Liu Erlong the Slaughtering Corner. Flender led the trio, whose three-person Martial Soul Fusion Skill helped establish their reputation 102 107.

Both Flender and Master loved Liu Erlong, but her affection remained directed toward Master. Flender concealed his own feelings when they reunited years later. On Master’s wedding day, he had been preparing to leave the couple and resume traveling before Yu Luomian arrived 65 102 103.

Flender and Zhao Wuji founded Shrek Academy after Zhao Wuji was pursued by a powerful Soul Douluo for injuring his clansman. Flender purchased the academy’s land and devoted twenty years to maintaining it. Qin Ming became its first graduate and formerly held its record for the fastest advancement to rank thirty 85 88 121.

Flender is notoriously stingy and financially crafty. He charges enrollment fees, leaves students to pay their own arena registration costs, and accelerates travel partly to reduce spending on meals and inns. His colleagues openly tease him about his miserliness, while he points to the academy’s financial pressures as the reason for his mercenary behavior 40 47 81 87 89.

His pride is deeply tied to Shrek Academy and its students. He initially rejects the proposal to place the Shrek Seven Devils at Heaven Dou Royal Academy because Shrek represents twenty years of his life’s work. Ma Hongjun’s reassurance that he will always remain Flender’s disciple helps him accept the arrangement 87.

Behind his stern manner, Flender is protective and emotionally invested in his students.
