| Golden Core | 182 | Endured a seven-day Heavenly Tribulation atop the sect's lotus platform. He used pills and Essence Blood to withstand the lightning, then refined the tribulation into mystic gold pills with Li Ye's assistance. 182 |
Appearance
Su Ya is a handsome cultivator whose composed appearance contrasts sharply with his occasional exhaustion from alchemy. After cleaning himself up, he is described as looking like “the very picture of an immortal.” 16
- Often wears flowing white robes; he later appears in a neat blue daoist robe while on sect business. 16 48
- His eyes can become bloodshot and his lips parched when overworked. 16
- He looks visibly weary after intensive pill refinement, even after forming his Golden Core. 182 194
Personality
Su Ya is sociable, candid, and quick to treat Li Ye as a fellow brother rather than maintain rigid seniority. He first befriends Li Ye because of the exceptional Moon Nectar Pearls Li Ye can provide, but his interest develops into sustained guidance, cooperation, and personal trust. 17 69
He can be playful, evasive, and fond of speaking cryptically, yet he becomes serious when sect responsibilities, mortal welfare, or cultivation opportunities are at stake. At the Peach Garden Gathering, he uses his authority to ensure Start of Spring Wheat is distributed to mortals rather than exploited by local cultivators. 20 41
Su Ya is intensely devoted to alchemy and can become completely absorbed in refining. He is also protective of his autonomy, complaining when his success leaves him responsible for nonstop refinement and teaching duties. 33 194
Abilities & Skills
Alchemy
Su Ya is a Four Seasons Sect alchemist with a private refining room in the Four Seasons Pavilion. He recognizes unusual materials, develops pills from them, and shares proceeds with Li Ye when using Li Ye's materials. 32 33 37
- Refined pills from Li Ye's materials, including Crimson-Gold Beauty Pills, which preserve appearance for twenty years, and Clear Snow Spirit Pills, which clear delusion barriers. 36
- Split auction proceeds evenly with Li Ye after accounting for materials, pill formulas, and his refining skill. 37
- Analyzed and helped develop a new Divine Sense-nourishing pill from Li Ye's Lotus Pills. 101
- Refined pills using Moon Dominion Spirit Fire; the resulting quality drew Wangshu's attention and led her to demand a greater supply. 133 139
- Refined tribulation lightning into sentient mystic gold pills during his Golden Core tribulation. 182
Spiritual Material Appraisal
Su Ya has extensive familiarity with spirit plants and alchemical materials, particularly those with unusual natural spirituality. 17 33
- Distinguished Li Ye's materials from regimented sect-grown plants because they possessed a wild, naturally formed quality. 33
- Recognized the value of Moon Nectar Pearls and secured Li Ye's friendship partly to maintain access to them. 17
- Assisted with examining Lotus Pills, Ink-Wash Kan-Life Yams, Gourd Oil, and other novel materials produced by Li Ye. 101 105 109
Teaching and Cultivation Guidance
Su Ya regularly provides Li Ye with practical instruction that a rogue cultivator would struggle to acquire. 17 69
- Recommended a Pulse-Restoring Pill or meridian-nourishing spells to treat Li Ye's meridian injury, and provided soothing pills to prevent it from worsening. 17
- Explained the Peach Blossom Mountain God's branch and the nature of Aura of Golden Fortune. 20
- Taught Li Ye the Earth Sentiment Technique, enabling him to sense the earth and locate the Mine Wraith controlling the Crimson Jade Flower Sea. 68
- Taught Li Ye the Spirit Storage Art, Spirit Eye, and Artifact Nurturing Art while mining together. 69
Relationships
- Li Ye — Junior brother, business partner, and close friend. Su Ya initially seeks Li Ye out for his Moon Nectar Pearls, then guides him into sect life, teaches him spells, refines his materials, and receives Li Ye's support during the Su Huan matter. 17 33 69 160
- Su Yu — Elder sister. She is a Golden Core Perfected Person and protects Li Ye during the Soul-Binding Bamboo incident; Su Ya later confirms the burden of alchemy work she assigns him. 118 194
- Su Huan — Grandfather. Su Huan was planted into the Ripple Cliff Grotto-Heaven after stealing its spiritual essence, which had merged into Su Ya's body. 160 161
- Qian Fang — Fellow Four Seasons Sect cultivator and mining companion. Alongside Su Ya, he protects and guides Li Ye through the mine. 68 69
- Wangshu — Moon deity and recipient of pills refined by Su Ya using Moon Dominion Spirit Fire. Her demand for more pills places substantial pressure on his refining work. 139
Story Role
Early Association with Li Ye
Su Ya meets Li Ye as an alchemist able to examine his injuries. Impressed by Li Ye's Moon Nectar Pearls, he encourages Li Ye to join the Four Seasons Sect and promises to take him to the Pill Chamber for a Pulse-Restoring Pill once he enters. 16 17
He introduces Li Ye to cultivator gatherings, gives up an opportunity to invoke spirits so Li Ye can participate, and acts as Li Ye's connection to the Four Seasons Sect before Li Ye formally joins. 19 20
Alchemical Partnership
After Li Ye begins producing distinctive spiritual materials, Su Ya purchases them or refines them into pills for an equal share of the proceeds. Their early partnership earns substantial auction prices for the Crimson-Gold Beauty Pills and establishes Li Ye's materials as valuable within the sect. 33 36 37
Su Ya continues to reserve Li Ye's unusual materials for alchemical research, even competing with other alchemists and Formation Masters over their possible uses. 101
Sect Guidance and Mining Expedition
Su Ya accompanies Li Ye on the Four Seasons Sect's wheat-distribution mission, provides him with a sect daoist robe, and explains the sect's responsibility toward mortals. 41 48
During the mineral-vein expedition, he and Qian Fang arrange for Li Ye to learn the Earth Sentiment Technique, then guide him through the destruction of the Mine Wraith and the collection of Crimson Jade Skull Crystal. 68
Before departing for the Eastern Yang Sea, Su Ya teaches Li Ye three practical spells and shares hard-to-access sect knowledge over Li Ye's farewell meal. 69
Su Family Secret and Ripple Cliff Grotto-Heaven
Su Ya discovers that Returning Shore Market was established by his grandfather's generation and learns the full extent of Su Huan's punishment. The grotto-heaven's stolen spiritual essence had merged with Su Ya himself, leaving him conflicted between loyalty to his grandfather and loyalty to the sect. 158 160
Li Ye persuades him to seek a solution rather than despair. Together, they enter Ripple Cliff Grotto-Heaven, where Su Huan is found planted as the Earth Vein Spirit Willow. 160 161
Golden Core Tribulation
Su Ya forms his Golden Core at the Four Seasons Sect's tribulation platform. Li Ye joins him beneath the tribulation clouds, and the two refine the lightning into pills before sharing the pure spiritual energy left behind by the tribulation. 182
Afterward, Su Ya becomes overwhelmed by refining the growing number of pills and materials associated with Li Ye's discoveries. 194
