Background / History

Hashirama was the First Hokage and one of Konoha’s founders. Together with Madara Uchiha, he united the Senju and Uchiha clans to establish the village; Madara supplied the name “Konoha.” 18 Though he sought lasting peace, later wars and Konoha’s decline lead him to question whether his original ideals were sufficient. 27 172

After entering the group that observes Kitahara Kaede, Hashirama takes immediate interest in Kaede’s Wood Release, initially assuming another Senju had awakened the ability. He becomes invested in Kaede’s future and later continues to place faith in him even when Madara attacks Konoha. 3 8 251

Hashirama’s reputation remains powerful enough to frighten the Fourth Kazekage Rasa into silence with spiritual pressure alone. Despite this overwhelming presence, he is notably reluctant to use his strength against weaker opponents and refuses to “bully children.” 37 338

During the conflict with the Ōtsutsuki, Hashirama fights alongside Madara against Momoshiki. Their combined True Several Thousand Hands and Susanoo temporarily defeat their opponent, while their Wood Release and Fire Release combination complicates Momoshiki’s ability to absorb ninjutsu. 271 272

Kitahara Kaede later restores Hashirama using Impure World Reincarnation and Sage Art Talismans. With the ninja world largely pacified, Hashirama is assigned to confront Ōtsutsuki threats rather than manage village affairs. 276 He subsequently turns his attention to new forms of power, discovering Vitality and mastering Yuan Qi. 717 718

Personality

Hashirama is cheerful, candid, and unusually approachable for a legendary Hokage. He readily calls former rivals and allies “brother,” tries to reconcile strained relationships, and treats even Izuna Uchiha as family despite the Senju–Uchiha conflict. 18 250

He is also trusting to a fault. Tobirama and others regularly characterize him as dense or foolish, particularly over his willingness to trust people and his decision to distribute Tailed Beasts among other villages. 194 706 Hashirama nevertheless possesses a firm moral line: he opposes coercive restrictions on Orochimaru and argues that trust must be offered before it can be expected in return. 717

His ideal remains a world in which children no longer have to fight in wars. He recognizes that peace enforced only through overwhelming power can fail, and he values mutual understanding between villages. 717
