Background / History

At age four, Kaede was discovered by the Third Hokage as a Wood Release test subject and placed within Konoha. He was later brought back from Orochimaru and kept under close protection. During his childhood, he drove away children bullying Hinata Hyuga without expecting recognition, becoming her childhood friend. 1 4

While attending the Ninja Academy, Kaede performed highly in the Ninja Tool Examination, scoring just below Sasuke Uchiha. He nevertheless showed little interest in competing for the position of top student, explaining to Hinata that exceptional status could become a burden. 2 3

Kaede’s early missions established his unusual approach to training and combat. Rather than simply defeat two rogue Kirigakure ninja, he confined them inside a Wood Release structure and invited his allies to challenge them for experience. 14
