History

Encounter with Sema

Vegeta first appears leading Naba and Raditz against Sema's group. His confidence is shattered when Sema defeats him easily, but Broly's Light lets him transform into a Great Ape and reverse the battle. The victory quickly restores his arrogance and contempt for lower-class Saiyans such as Raditz. 125

Invasion of Earth

Vegeta and Naba arrive on Earth intending to conquer it, dismissing the planet's low gravity and its defenders. Vegeta's 19,000 Battle Power lets him overpower Goku and Piccolo initially, but Goku's Kaio-ken eventually defeats him. 146 148 149

Refusing to accept defeat by a “low-class warrior,” Vegeta creates an Artificial Moon and becomes a Great Ape. His transformed power rises to nearly 200,000, allowing him to overwhelm Goku and brutally subdue the transformed Raditz. The battle ultimately leaves Vegeta severely injured; he retreats toward Frieza's headquarters. 149 151 152

Namek Conflict

On Planet Namek, Vegeta seeks the Dragon Balls before Frieza can obtain immortality. His post-Earth growth raises his Battle Power to 24,000, and he demonstrates learned Ki control by releasing his full strength against Koy. 156

Vegeta is repeatedly drawn into battles with Frieza's forces. After recovering from Zarbon's attack, he defeats Zarbon, kills Sabot, and rescues Gohan and Fanyu from Jiece and Burter. After Frieza's defeat, Vegeta remains on Earth because he lacks a usable spaceship. His initial time on the planet is marked by violent outbursts, including killing Master Ma and his men while seeking transportation. 204 205

His exposure to Earth gradually changes him. He develops a strong appetite for Earth food, moves into Bulma's home, and gains access to Capsule Corporation's Gravity Training Room.
