Power Progression

Background and History

Kong Xuan and his younger brother Da Peng are Yuan Feng’s children. Kong Xuan initially belongs to the Jie Teachings as a Registered Disciple. After Li Yun defeats Da Peng, Kong Xuan checks that his brother will recover, thanks Li Yun for showing restraint, and challenges him. Kong Xuan loses, but his performance draws Sect Master Tongtian’s attention 40 41.

The defeat prompts Kong Xuan to commit more fully to the Jie Teachings. After defeating Gui Ling in a later contest, he becomes Tongtian’s Direct Disciple and receives treasures suited to his Five-Colored Divine Light. He also requests the Nine Revolutions Mysterious Technique 51 52 55.

Da Peng transfers his Yin-Yang Origin to Kong Xuan, allowing Kong Xuan to develop the Seven-Colored Divine Light and strengthening the foundation behind his breakthrough to Zenith Heaven Golden Immortal. Kong Xuan then asks Tongtian for the sect’s Array Dao and Sword Dao inheritances. Tongtian names him Inheritor of the Robe and Bowl; Da Peng chooses to focus on Yuan Feng’s inheritance and the Phoenix Clan 132 177 178 179.

Kong Xuan later takes an active role in Phoenix Clan affairs without taking its throne. He helps Da Peng address the clan’s future, works with Li Yun on a plan involving Li Mo and the Devilish Dao, and persuades resistant Phoenix Clan elders to support releasing captured Devil Race generals as part of that plan 488 653 682 683 684.

Five-Colored Divine Light

Kong Xuan’s innate, body-integrated spiritual treasure derives from the Five-Elements Origin and is closely tied to his feathers 40 272.

• Sweeps away techniques and spiritual treasures within the Five Elements, but can be countered by power outside that scope 40 41 60.
• Produces elemental attacks, a spear, and protective armor 40.
• Counters Gui Ling’s Mystic Water attacks and Shangqing Divine Thunder 51.

Seven-Colored Divine Light

By incorporating Da Peng’s Yin-Yang Origin, Kong Xuan extends his divine light’s reach to Yin-Yang as well as the Five Elements. He describes its evolved grade as comparable to a Pseudo Innate Supreme Treasure 177.

• Restrains escape arts, spiritual treasures, and methods based on Yin-Yang and the Five Elements; rapidly defeats five Golden Crow Crown Princes 220.
• Develops a Seven-Colored Divine Light Space that Kong Xuan can control so living beings remain inside without being harmed 309.
• Remains inferior to Li Yun’s Chaos Divine Light when Kong Xuan tests the two against each other 322.

Chaos Divine Light and combat training

Kong Xuan pursues Chaos Divine Light as the next evolution of his technique. Li Yun offers him some of his own divine light to study, while Tongtian obtains the Primordial Chaos Bead to help Kong Xuan’s advancement. Kong Xuan is later described as having evolved Chaos Divine Light 309 310 445 446 496.

• Uses Chaos Divine Light to fight the demonized Zhurong and shield Da Peng, though Zhurong eventually overwhelms both brothers 666 668.
• Cultivates the Nine Revolutions Mysterious Technique, strengthening both his physical body and Primordial Spirit 496.
• Studies formations and seeks Sword Dao training to address a weakness in close combat. He learns sword qi from the Immortal-Slaying Four Swords, though his Sword Dao talent is described as limited 538 659.

• Five Elements Seal — Tongtian’s reward, intended to strengthen the offensive side of Kong Xuan’s Five-Colored Divine Light 55.
