Background
Uncle Jiu follows the traditional Daoist path of cultivating Mana. He considers himself constrained by his home world's end of the Dharma era, but the resources and techniques available through the Starry Sky Chat Group rapidly accelerate his growth. 31
He becomes involved with Jiang Zhen, Zhang Chulan, and Li Lianhua after Jiang Zhen discloses his identity as a Pangu Clansman. Uncle Jiu is initially shaken by the revelation, particularly by the connection between the Pangu Clan and zombies, but accepts the truth after Zhang Chulan explains it. 13
Personality
Uncle Jiu is disciplined, perceptive, and uncompromising when Daoist principles are at stake. He can be stern with Wencai and Qiusheng, but his anger stems from concern over their laziness, dishonesty, and failure to cultivate properly. 512 516 527
He is also generous toward people in genuine need. While searching Golden Rooster Ridge, he rewards a youth who provides useful information with a Divine Weapon. 410
His judgment is not easily manipulated. He immediately recognizes that Wang Sheng, Liu Ruyan, and Jiang Yi have bribed Wencai and sees through their fabricated histories and ambitions, refusing to accept them as disciples. 512
Abilities & Skills
Talisman Dao
Uncle Jiu specializes in Daoist talismans and can draw them without paper or ink.
- Forms the Five Thunder Talisman in the air to call down lightning. 182
- Uses talismans to extract part of Li Lianhua's Bicha poison, though repeated application is necessary for complete detoxification. 16
- His Great Sun Golden Crow Talisman swiftly defeats the Red and White Double Fiends in the Spiritual and Illusory Realm. 510
- His future self uses Sweet Rain Talismans to heal injuries and Blazing Sun Talismans to expel zombies. 525
- Ordinary yellow talismans can be rendered ineffective by Black Dog Blood. 524
Talisman Arrays
His talismans can be arranged into larger formations rather than used only as individual spells.
- Developed a Lightning Conduction Array and tested it against a flying corpse. 49
- Activated an Immortal Slaying Talisman Array, creating four phantom swords that anchored themselves in the Void. 402
- Is said to be capable of establishing a version of the legendary Immortal Slaying Sword Array, though it possesses less than one-tenth of the original formation's power. 656
Daoist Perception and Divination
Uncle Jiu can identify corruption, Yin energy, Sha Qi, and spiritual abnormalities.
- Recognized that a Five-Colored Peacock's stunted intelligence and failure to transform were caused by concentrated Sha Qi. 411
- Used an Invisibility Talisman while investigating strange men with abnormal Sha Qi and captives forced to excavate a mountain hollow. 514
- Cast divination after sensing danger around the grave-relocation affair and received an omen of a catastrophic calamity. 516
- Saw through the lies of would-be disciples seeking his Daoist arts for selfish advancement. 512
Demon and Zombie Exorcism
Uncle Jiu is an experienced demon-slaying expert with practical combat knowledge against corpses and evil entities.
- Fought Old Master Ren alongside Li Lianhua and Zhang Chulan using his Peachwood Sword and Maoshan Demon-Slaying Sword technique. 21
- Warned that even he might be unable to stop Old Master Ren if the corpse were not burned or properly reinterred. 518
- Identified the unnatural fusion of a human soul and zombie body in a Yin Corpse Sect remnant. 514
Equipment
- Peachwood Sword — Used during the battle against Old Master Ren. 21
- Talisman Gourd — Carries and releases large quantities of talismans; its absence leaves an alternate Uncle Jiu vulnerable during the Renjia Town crisis. 510 525
- Mountain-Driving Whip — A patterned black whip forged after he comprehended the Thirty-Six Heavenly Dipper Arts; can move mountains, split cliffs, and break stone. 412
- Seven Star Sword — A weapon from his earlier demon-subduing days; Jiang Zhen describes him as capable of being considered a founding patriarch of the Sword Immortal lineage. 360
- Fire Devouring Gourd — A treasure he gives Xiao Huo; it can consume and subsequently release flames, including Strange Fires. 322
Relationships
- Jiang Zhen — Chat Group ally. Jiang Zhen explains the Pangu Clan's history and encourages Uncle Jiu to exchange techniques and use Chat Points for cultivation; Uncle Jiu later assists in mentoring Xiao Huo. 13 322
- Zhang Chulan — Fellow Chat Group member and companion in Renjia Town. Zhang Chulan explains Jiang Zhen's nature to Uncle Jiu, and the two later join Li Lianhua in battling Old Master Ren. 13 21
- Li Lianhua — Ally whose Bicha poison Uncle Jiu treats with talismans; they later fight Old Master Ren together. 16 21
- Si Mu — Junior brother. Uncle Jiu responds immediately to Si Mu's apparent distress and later saves him, the children, and his temple from Iron Armored Zombies and Black-Clad Men. 181 182
- Jia Le — Si Mu's disciple, who addresses Uncle Jiu as his uncle and witnesses the Five Thunder Talisman's destructive power. 181 182
- Wencai — Disciple raised by Uncle Jiu from childhood. Wencai's laziness and acceptance of a bribe lead to severe reprimand. 512 516
- Qiusheng — Disciple with better talent than Wencai but a playful nature; in the Parallel Spiritual and Illusory Realm incident, Uncle Jiu expels him alongside Wencai after they steal a zombie-killing gourd and fail to improve. 516 527
- Xiao Huo — Recipient of Uncle Jiu's Fire Devouring Gourd and Daoist guidance. 322
Story Role / Major Arcs
Early Chat Group Cooperation

He treats Li Lianhua's Bicha poison with repeated talisman work, then fights Old Master Ren beside Li Lianhua and Zhang Chulan after Jiang Zhen seals the zombie's innate ability. 16 21
Growth and Si Mu's Rescue
After reaching the perfection of Qi Refining and Spirit Transformation, Uncle Jiu answers Si Mu's call for help. He destroys three Iron Armored Zombies near Jia Le, then remotely sends a Five Thunder Talisman to kill the Black-Clad Men and zombies besieging Si Mu. 31 181 182
Search for Ancient Relics
While exploring Golden Rooster Ridge, Uncle Jiu traces Demonic Energy to a Five-Colored Peacock with Earth Immortal-level power. He discovers a five-colored stone in its cave, breaks it open with the Mountain-Driving Whip, and learns that the object inside is a feather left by a legendary being. 410 411 412
Parallel Spiritual and Illusory Realm Incident
Uncle Jiu enters the Parallel Spiritual and Illusory Realm alone to investigate the arrival of transmigrators. He defeats the Red and White Double Fiends and heads for Renjia Town, where he expects outsiders to seek him as a master. 510
He refuses Wang Sheng, Liu Ruyan, and Jiang Yi as disciples after uncovering their bribery and deception. The trio subsequently tampers with Old Master Ren's grave using various animal bloods, worsening the zombie threat in Renjia Town. 512 514
When the crisis escalates, Uncle Jiu is saved by his future self, Lin Jiu, who heals him and drives back the zombie horde. After learning that Wencai and Qiusheng allowed his protective gourd to be stolen, he expels them and leaves the Mourning Hall in Wencai's care. 525 527
