Background / History
Warring States Period
The Uchiha and Senju are recognized as the Land of Fire’s strongest clans. Their feud spans roughly a thousand years, with enormous blood debts on both sides. Under Tajima, the Uchiha maintain multiple armies while also contending with rivals within their own leadership 1 10 47 192.
The southern conflict begins with an attack on vulnerable members of the Nara, Akimichi, and Yamanaka clans. Although presented as an effort to prevent their relocation to the Senju, its actual purpose is to destroy future generations of enemy fighters. The resulting hatred contributes to retaliatory attacks, including Nara Kensuke’s assault on the weakened Uchiha compound 1 2 10 11.
Kyosuke, Madara, and Izuna become known as the Uchiha Three Prodigies after their unusually early Sharingan awakenings. Their fame brings underground bounties and attempts to eliminate them before they mature. Kyosuke’s later sharing of Chidori creates a particularly valuable force that both Tajima and Rei seek to control 13 24 92.
Lunar Invasion and Succession
The Moon Clan’s puppet army invades the Land of Fire, threatening the Uchiha’s heartland. Kyosuke secures Hyuga reinforcements, while Hashirama and Tobirama leave their own clan to assist despite Butsuma’s opposition. Fallen Uchiha are converted into puppets and forced to attack their former comrades and families 107 113.
Tajima’s death creates an immediate succession crisis. Elder Koji attempts to discredit Madara and claim authority before other commanders can intervene. Madara awakens his Mangekyō and challenges Koji to settle the leadership contest through a duel; he is subsequently recognized as clan leader 119 120 123.
Founding Konoha
Kyosuke supports a shared village but argues that entrenched hatred cannot disappear through goodwill alone. He proposes unification followed by generations growing up together, while Madara promises to support his ambition to lead the future village 33 36 123.
The Uchiha and Senju ultimately end hostilities and establish the Land of Fire’s first united hidden village. Kyosuke’s overwhelming victory in the final clan conflict is central to that outcome. He later serves as Hokage, giving the Uchiha a powerful position in the new political order 192 233.
After Kyosuke’s Death
Kyosuke’s death and Madara’s disappearance weaken Konoha’s deterrence and expose the Uchiha to renewed political pressure. Yuto’s defeat of Tobirama restores prestige to the younger generation, while Chō supports Yayoi’s successful bid to become Second Hokage 252 253.
The clan remains a major military force. Its elite unit helps reverse Kirigakure’s invasion of the Land of Whirlpools, and Izuna leads an attack that kills the Mizukage and his Shadow Guard. Later Ōtsutsuki assaults draw the clan’s strongest fighters into Konoha’s defense, including Yuto, Chō, Nagisa, Izuna, and Madara 260 266 270 311.
Organization and Military
| Component | Function / Scale |
|---|---|
| Clan leader | Commands the clan and directs its military policy; Tajima is succeeded by Madara 10 123. |
| Council of Elders | Influences policy, including the proposal to distribute Chidori throughout the clan. Powerful elders may also command troops and contest succession 76 119. |
| Four Legions | Each covers a different direction. During the early Warring States account, each legion has over 1,000 shinobi 10. |
| Compound garrison | More than 800 resident shinobi; Kyosuke estimates the clan’s total fighting strength at no fewer than 5,000 10. |
| Southern Army | Commanded by Rei; fights the Nara–Akimichi–Yamanaka alliance and later invaders from the Land of Wind 1 107. |
| Clan Shadow Ninjas | Specially trained operatives handle people or matters the clan leader cannot conveniently address in person 36. |
| Kyosuke’s force | Grows from a unit authorized to command thirty ninjas into a force of roughly 200, most of whom master Chidori 13 92. |
| Later elite unit | A highly trained, hundred-strong force whose deployment turns the tide against Kirigakure 260. |
Culture and Internal Politics
- Civilian support: Commoners around Uchiha territory provide agricultural and livestock labor needed to sustain the clan 4.
- Marriage practices: The direct line favors marriage within the clan, while branch-family members generally marry outsiders to maintain fresh blood 4.
- Talent attracts patronage: Kyosuke’s early Sharingan earns special training and protection, but also makes him a perceived threat to Tajima’s sons 1 4 5.
- Factional leadership: Madara considers Tajima chiefly responsible for the clan’s divisions and initially hopes to unite its factions under his own rule 5.
- Strength legitimizes authority: Koji’s challenge to Madara becomes a public duel over who deserves to lead 120.
- Clan pride can conflict with village loyalty: Kagami objects to Uchiha-centered public praise and joins Tobirama as a student, believing Konoha should come before clan allegiance 241.
Abilities & Skills
Sharingan
- Usually awakens at sixteen or seventeen in this era, making awakenings at seven exceptionally rare 1.
- Improves the user’s ability to follow enemy movements and enhances swordsmanship and high-speed attacks 7 18.
- Supports memorization and copying: Ei reproduces Chidori after other clansmen, including Tajima, fail to do so 76 92.
- Requires chakra to maintain; young Kyosuke cannot initially keep it active for long 5.
Mangekyō Sharingan
- Normally awakens through tremendous negative emotions, such as witnessing the death of someone deeply loved 91.
- Strengthens existing Sharingan functions and grants two additional abilities shaped by the individual 91.
- Documented powers include Ei’s precognition, Chō’s reality-altering touch and luck absorption, and Yuto’s attribute matching and guaranteed-hit effect 147 154 252.
- Repeated use progressively threatens the user’s eyesight. Sage body cells can restore ocular power over time, as demonstrated by Madara 91 159.
Susanoo
- Creates a chakra construct that protects its user and fights under their command 105.
- Develops from ribs and arms into skeletal, fleshed, and armored forms; stronger stages demand greater chakra and ocular power 105 113.
- Its complete form can devastate kilometers of terrain, cleave mountains, and churn rivers with a sword swing 168.
- Can combine with other powers: Madara armors Kurama and Hashirama’s giant Buddha, while Kyosuke adds senjutsu 136 163 250.
- Madara’s Ultimate Susanoo merges multiple complete constructs rather than merely enlarging a single one 270.
Uchiha Swordsmanship and Chidori
- Uchiha-style swordsmanship forms a central part of Kyosuke’s early combat training. Sharingan assistance raises its practical effectiveness beyond his unaided skill 7.
- Chidori’s high-speed charge creates vulnerability to counterattacks; the Sharingan supplies the perception needed to use it effectively 18.
- Kyosuke teaches Chidori to his troops, producing coordinated charges with strong piercing power and synchronized evasion 24 92.
- Documented variants include Chidori Stream, Chidori Sharp Spear, and Chidori-enhanced blades 96 135 147.
Scientific Enhancement
- Sage body cell transplantation supports Uchiha fighters by replenishing ocular power, although it does not automatically grant complete Susanoo mastery 159 227.
- Yayoi’s genetic cloning research produces a near-identical Sharingan that can help expand Yuto’s ocular-power limit 253.
- Kyosuke leaves Yayoi research companies and knowledge of Scientific Ninja Tools as a defense against increasingly dangerous enemies 254.
