Background

Yelena is a member of Xisiya’s Konia Family and the daughter of its Governor. She and her brother, Rieka, were placed in a succession contest for their father’s position; the loser was to be exiled to Sainantata. Rieka regarded her pursuit of power as a direct threat to his claim. 237 262

To strengthen herself quickly, Yelena attended North Star Academy under the surname Stasia. Her special status allowed her to live off campus and focus almost exclusively on Mind Power Circulation rather than ordinary mandatory courses. 234 244 299

She sought Guan Tong’s private instruction because she lacked time and needed practical guidance. Rieka responded by threatening Guan Tong and sending assassins, prompting Yelena to order her guard Sigaoxin to find them. 234 237 240

At Madam Konia’s birthday banquet, Rieka attempted to eliminate Yelena before the succession could be decided.
