Background / History

General Modern, formerly a marshal in the Government Army, rebelled after seeking justice for his deceased wife and daughter. His uprising expanded into a global armed conflict, ultimately plunging the world into war. 124

Two years before the Modern Army's mine incident, it began its formal war with the Government Army. Having learned of the Government Army's SV-001 development program, the Modern Army raided the research factory, seized nearly all completed units, and distributed them among bases worldwide. 69

The faction also established concealed research facilities, including a mine disguised as a local installation near a civilian plane crash. The mine researched extraterrestrial meteorites associated with ghoulification, but its outbreak spiraled out of control and overran the camp. 70 73

Its biological programs produced subjects such as the War Elephant Mammoth, an elephant modified with fossil-derived mammoth genes and further alterations intended to create a biological vehicle superior to the SV-001. The Modern Army also conducted experiments involving gene bullets that could forcibly transform victims into orangutans. 72 78

The Modern Army suffered two consecutive defeats against the Government Army and lost allied warlords during the wider rebellion. Its remaining units continued conducting operations, including failed experiments inside the Maya Pyramid region. 98 113

During the Martian crisis, General Modern was replaced by a Martian impostor and abducted. The entire Modern Army committed its troops and supplies to a near-suicidal space assault on the Martian mothership to recover him. 613 615 617 General Modern was ultimately rescued, restoring the army's morale. 623

The Modern Army's cohesion rests overwhelmingly on General Modern's personal leadership.
