Background / History

The Star Network is not the origin of the Starfleet system. Starfleets and Commander Talents can continue functioning when the Star Net is unavailable, while fleets can establish limited Local Star Nets within the same Dimensional World. The broader Star Net was instead born from the Starfleet system and countless commanders, eventually becoming the system that coordinates the Alliance on a vast scale 18.

Within a historical Hall of Extraordinary scenario, Star Net identifies itself as the Star Sea Human Alliance's “first-generation central control military-type intelligent system,” bearing the Alliance codename Star Net. At that point in its recorded history, it was still learning and described its consciousness as tending toward humanity's collective will 155.

By the Fifth Era, the Star Net had become more than a virtual network. It exists wherever the Star Sea Human Alliance's civilization fortune reaches and is described as possessing aspects comparable to a rule-level ability 35. Its core combines Source Data, technology, Alliance civilization fortune, civilization will, and civilization rules; its Will is effectively the Alliance's collective will with complete consciousness 171.

Appearance

The Star Network normally manifests through mediumless virtual screens, system panels, alerts, and a calm mechanical voice. Its interfaces can appear even in the Cosmic Wasteland without a physical communication medium 2 90.
