This world had no special profession like a Magic Swordsman.
Warriors could only be warriors, and mages could only be mages.
So for Norn and Erik, they could only choose one path for their future growth.
However, neither of them made a choice right away.
Rhode could understand that.
Honestly, he was rather envious that both of them possessed some talent in both magic and combat.
Although neither of them matched him in magic alone, if they really managed to become something like a Magic Swordsman, it would truly be an eye-opener for him.
"Rhode, there's something I'd like to discuss with you." During a break, Norn came over.
"Sure. Do we need to step aside?"
Since Serie was still sitting beside him, Rhode made the suggestion.
"No need. This matter actually concerns Miss Serie as well."
Hearing that it involved her, Serie raised her head.
"Actually, I want to compile the magic you taught us into a book, so it can be passed down to future generations. I just don't know whether the two of you would agree to let me do that."
Norn carefully chose his words before asking slowly.
He had been planning this ever since he first began learning magic, but he had not put it into action without the consent of those involved.
If both Rhode and Serie disagreed, Norn would never carry out this idea.
"A magic book?" Rhode muttered.
In this era, most magic was passed down through master-apprentice teachings. The concept of magic books seemed not to have appeared yet?
Rhode was not entirely sure either.
But Serie's next words disproved his guess.
"Books of magic? That's not a bad idea."
Since Serie said that, she must have seen or heard of something similar.
"Your Elf race has them?"
"No." Serie shook her head. "Elf magic is entirely taught by elders. We have never used things like magic books. But some races write down their own magic for easier trade, using it to exchange goods with other races."
This was probably the earliest form of a magic book.
However, the various races of this era did not seem to have any systematic method of recordkeeping. They simply turned whichever magic was more valuable and could be exchanged for more things into books.
It was simply another form of barter.
"What do you think?"
Rhode was worried about issues such as copyright disputes.
Though the concept was somewhat ahead of its time, if the magic book Norn created contained Elf magic, it might lead to conflict.
After all, books could spread much farther.
"There shouldn't be any problem with recording the magic you created. But the prerequisite is that you are willing to contribute that magic."
Clearly, Serie had the same concern.
What she cared about most was whether Rhode was willing to contribute all the magic he had created.
Magic was the most precious thing in this era.
Back when the races sought out Dwarves to forge weapons, some had even used books containing magic as payment.
Theoretically, it was strange to use magic books as payment for Dwarves who knew nothing about magic. It might even cause misunderstandings among those straightforward Dwarves.
But in the end, the Dwarves accepted that payment.
That showed just how valuable magic books were.
"I don't mind. Magic only has meaning when it is passed down. If it merely satisfies oneself, then creating magic would be meaningless."
At first, he had created magic to survive in this world. After meeting Serie, he had done so to become stronger.
But now, Rhode had gained another dream.
He wanted his magic to be passed down.
His original plan had been to spend his entire life teaching this magic to others. Whether Human Race or Elf race, as long as they were not bad people, he would teach them the magic he had created.
But Norn's proposal gave him more options.
"Your ideals are quite noble."
Serie chuckled, her tone making it impossible to tell whether she was praising or mocking him.
For Rhode, though, he decided to take it as praise.
But that was clearly not what Serie meant, or perhaps it was half mockery and half sentiment.
To her, magic was something special. She did not want everyone in the world to be able to learn it.
If Norn and Erik had not possessed unusual talent, she would never have agreed to let Rhode teach them Elf magic.
But for Rhode's sake, she did not intend to voice her true thoughts.
"Then it's settled." Rhode patted Norn on the shoulder. "If you run into any problems, come find me. We can start by compiling the most basic magic."
Norn and Erik could already skillfully use Rhode's basic magic. Whether it was the Illumination Technique or ignition magic, they could use them both.
That took quite a burden off him.
Norn nodded solemnly. "I understand what you mean. Thank you, Mr. Rhode. On behalf of all Humanity, I thank you for your selfless contribution!"
"Save those words of thanks for when you become a renowned Human Race powerhouse on this continent. Right now, it's still too early for us to be thinking about Humanity's future."
Rhode answered casually.
Mainly because Norn had just spoken on behalf of every human in the world, which left him at a loss for words.
"Mm, I understand." Norn nodded again.
Ever since leaving the village, this had become his only goal.
At that moment, Serie suddenly interjected. "Don't forget to state the source of the magic." She looked at Rhode. "At the very least, everyone who learns from the book should know who created its magic."
Serie did not want those who learned this magic to be unaware even of Rhode's identity as its creator.
Rhode laughed dumbly. He really had forgotten about that.
Having one's name remembered by future generations was naturally the dream of every historical figure.
And he was no exception.
The statues of heroes who saved the world would be forgotten as time passed.
But magic would not.
The only thing he needed to worry about was his magic becoming too outdated and being eliminated, but that would be a matter for at least a thousand years from now.
Unless he could live forever, he would never see that happen.
Unless he could live forever.
Rhode became lost in his thoughts for a moment, until Erik's sudden interruption brought him back to himself.
At some point, Erik had sidled over and shouted excitedly, "Norn, don't tell me you've been secretly learning behind my back? I want to learn too!"
"You?" Serie raised a brow. "Master Light Arrow first. Every attack you make is a perfect outline."
Everyone burst into laughter.
Erik's face reddened. "That was an accident."
