Background / History

Erik lived in the human settlement within Gremir Forest with his younger sister, Noyun, and was one of Norn's closest companions. He rescued the injured Rhode after finding him floating downriver, initially mistaking him for an animal carcass. Curious yet skeptical of Rhode's claim to have seriously wounded a demon, Erik sought to test him in a sparring match. At the time, he was considered the tribe's strongest warrior, though Norn's more cunning approach meant Erik lost to him more often than he won. 30 32

After joining Rhode, Serie, Norn, and Som on their journey, Erik began learning magic. His impatience with basic training and preference for destructive spells often drew criticism from Serie, but he steadily developed into a capable combat mage. He travelled with the party through major dangers, including the battle against a dragon, the Dwarven Kingdom ruins, and the confrontation with the Goddess of Fertility. 33 42 57 64 80 130

Following the party's early adventures, Erik and Norn crossed the continent teaching magic to human communities. Norn promoted the creation of the first Human Race kingdom and became Saint King Norn, while Erik freely shared the magic he knew and earned the title of Sage. He refused the higher title of Great Sage, believing that distinction belonged only to Rhode. 121

During the battle against the false gods, Erik was unknowingly infected by a divine curse. The corruption gradually consumed his soul, beliefs, and power, transforming him into the First Demon King, Asmodeus. Fifteen years after Erik's disappearance, Asmodeus emerged as a feared ruler of the Demon Race. 121 319

As Demon King, Erik retained a faint remnant of resistance beneath the corruption, but could no longer be saved. To end his suffering and prevent further disaster, Rhode used faith power accumulated in the Celestial Divine Kingdom to destroy him. Later records identify Kraft as the hero who slew Asmodeus and ended the Demon Race's renewed threat. 120 147 311 319

Appearance

Before his corruption, Erik was a golden-haired human man with an average build rather than the appearance Rhode expected of a powerful warrior. He later adopted an unusually theatrical hero's outfit. 30 59

Erik was energetic, outspoken, and eager to prove himself. He relished sparring and combat, disliked being treated as weak, and initially considered basic magic beneath his interest. His confidence could turn reckless, particularly when he concentrated excessive destructive power into spells without considering the surrounding environment. 31 33 50 57

Despite his bravado, Erik was considerate of others. He did not want to spar Rhode while Rhode was injured, looked after Noyun with easy affection, and joined Rhode's party to grow stronger alongside his friends. 30 37

Erik also held a sincere ideal of heroism: he wanted to protect others and bring them happiness, not entertain people by humiliating himself. This humility extended to his later reputation as a Sage, as he declined the title of Great Sage out of respect for Rhode. 59 121
